The Court Of Royal Opinion: WWE Hell In A Cell Predictions

Welcome to all our Royal subjects to The Court Of Royal Opinion. Here in court, we, the writers of Wrestle Royalty drink copious amounts of Ale and Ingest multiple servings of Hasenpfeffer while we argue and debate who we believe will be booked to go over in each WWE PPV/Network special.

Please feel free to give your own predictions below in the comment section, but I wouldn’t advise doing it as we do! Beer and Sour Rabbit Stew comes back to haunt you trust me.

Chad Gable & Shelton Benjamin vs. The Hype Bros

Queen KB

I’ve never been a fan of Shelton Benjamin.  He was quite nice the time I met him, but his work always felt like he was resting on his laurels, not reaching for the brass ring, trying his hardest to be a top guy.  The thing is that he could have been a main event superstar if he’d actually put some of himself into his career, but he just didn’t seem to care enough about what he was doing to put himself out there.  And then there’s Ryder.  He should have cut bait after being an Edgehead, because he’s nothing more than a jobber, on a good day.

It’s hard to pick a winner when I really dislike one guy on each team.  That being said, if Shelton works hard, he could be great for Gable, really help push him to that next level, and possibly push himself up as well.  On the other side of the ring is MoJo, who might not come off as a top guy, and might never be a top guy, but sticking him with Ryder is just holding him back.  This is the time for Mojo to step away from Ryder, and while it will cost them this match, it will be great for Mojo in the long run.  I just hope Mojo doesn’t get stuck feuding with Ryder for too long.

Winners: Benjamin & Gable

Botch

I’m thinking this will be the match where the Hype Bros. break up. They’ve been teasing it a bit, and I think it’ll happen here. As such, the match really isn’t important. Shelton and Chad are in it so it’ll be worth watching just for that and they’ll make a show of it. Zack is no slouch either, and Mojo is much fun so this should be good.

Winners: Gable & Benjamin

Dre

Going go with Chad & Shelton here. Don’t be surprised at all if the Hype Bros officially turn heel and attack Chad & Shelton afterward.

Winners: Gable & Benjamin

CJ

There’s not a whole lot to say about this one, but I’m very glad Chad Gable is getting some pay-per-view time, even if it’s just the kickoff. Shelton Benjamin hasn’t really shown much since returning, so I’m hoping this match can be an opportunity for him to shine. Additionally, I think fans are waiting for both teams to implode. Obviously, The Hype Bros are headed that way, but Gable & Benjamin as a unit just doesn’t seem genuine right now. Ryder and Mojo will continue their losing streak.

Winners: Gable & Benjamin

Mistress Marie Quick Pick: Team Angle 2.0

Sir Mitch Quick Pick: Gable & Benjamin

Bobby Roode vs. Dolph Ziggler

Queen KB

I know I wrote that Nattie and Charlotte could steal this PPV, but it’s this match that has me salivating.  Roode and Ziggler did a great job on the mic on SD this week, and they’re going to kill it in the ring.  The quality of work from these two is always top notch.  I know a lot of people don’t like Ziggler’s selling, but I love his old school way of doing things.  Maybe it’s that HBK is a fave of mine, but I think it’s more that I loved the AE and Ziggler work that way a lot of the time.  Because of the work-rate of these two, I know this match will be stellar.  They can put on matches that leave us in awe, so the two of them together could be that much more than glorious!  All that being said, Roode needs to go over here.  It might be dirty or screwy, giving Ziggler more time to bitch, moan, and complain, pushing their feud along, but in the end, Ziggler will loose and end up being terribly disgruntled about it going into SmackDown next week.

Winner: Roode

Botch

I’ve enjoyed Dolph. In fact, I always enjoy Dolph. He’s a great worker who has the passion for talking us into anything. He deserves more than he’ll get here. They will make this an entertaining match because they’re both great at what they do. This is Roode’s first PPV match…and he absolutely won’t lose.

Winner: Bobby Roode

Dre

This one is pretty obvious. Roode wins here. The match itself should be pretty good. This would be a good way to kick off the PPV.

Winner: Roode

CJ

There’s something to be said about Dolph Ziggler being paired with the likes of Big E, Baron Corbin, Shinsuke Nakamura, and now Bobby Roode upon their main roster debuts. Nevertheless, It’s fairly obvious who will, and rightfully should, go over here. I’m very much looking forward to seeing this first-time match up on TV. Can The Glorious One continue to work as a face on the blue brand?

Winner: Roode

Mistress Marie Quick Pick: Roode

Sir Mitch Quick Pick: Roode

Randy Orton vs. Rusev

Queen KB

The booking of Orton, Rusev, and so many others on both Raw and SmackDown rosters, have been so bad that I worry about the future of guys like Rusev who is getting jerked in so many different directions.  He won’t have a chance to reach the top if he doesn’t start going over regularly, especially over guys like Orton who have some solid clout and history in pro wrestling.

Winner: Rusev

Botch

It’s beyond the time they do something with Rusev. Randy has become incredibly stale for me. I’m not invested in this match so much as I’m invested in Rusev, so I really want him to take this. Orton can take the loss so, in my perfect world…

Winner: Rusev

Dre

Can’t say I’m too excited for this one. I’m going to say Rusev wins here because quite frankly he needs a big win very badly. This feud will probably continue past HIAC.

Winner: Rusev

CJ

I was looking forward to their first encounter at SummerSlam, but I’ve been completely turned off from this feud since the moment Rusev was unreasonably squashed. It should’ve been the other way around. Orton’s lost to Mahal on a number of occasions, and they should lose again to Rusev here. What this can spark is a downward spiral for The Viper, so that he can turn heel again before WrestleMania. The man himself doesn’t like being a face, and the fans don’t care much either. Once Rusev goes over here in strong fashion, he can move on to The Face That Runs The Place.

Winner: Rusev

Mistress Marie Quick Pick: Orton

Sir Mitch Quick Pick: Rusev

U.S. Title Match: AJ Styles (c) vs. Baron Corbin

Queen KB

It looks to me as though Corbin isn’t doing as well backstage as he once was.  Between dropping the MITB case the way he did, and the matches he’s not been winning, I think he’s in the doghouse.  I’ve never been a fan of Corbin’s.  I just don’t see IT in him.  I tried.  I really, really tried to give Corbin a fair shake, but, at this point, there’s no reason he should be going over AJ for any reason, especially for a strap.  I’m not even interested in this match and hope AJ just flattens Corbin and moves on.  The last thing SmackDown needs right now is another Champion who absolutely shouldn’t be wearing gold for any reason.

Winner: AJ

Botch

Baron has been started and stopped on fairly often. AJ has been a big deal for a long time now…finally. I think this might just be Baron’s time. AJ has little to lose by dropping this one so I think he will.

Winner and NEWWWWWW: Baron Corbin

Dre

I’ve gone back and forth on this one for a couple of weeks now and wouldn’t be surprised by either guy emerging victorious here. Given the direction that I think creative will be going in in the next month or so I’m going to go with Corbin here to win the title. I can definitely see a scenario where Corbin is feuding with Roode or Nakamura by November and AJ possibly chasing Mahal for the title. Just a hunch.

Winner: Corbin

CJ

Who else thinks this should’ve been a triple threat featuring Tye Dillinger? It sucks that he’s been a big part of this feud, but is being left off the card. The addition of The Perfect ten also would’ve increased the entertainment value of this bout. Being in the US Title match shows that Corbin isn’t completely “buried” after his losses to Mahal and Cena, but it still sucks just a bit. I don’t think WWE has any intentions of taking the title off of Styles until towards the end of the year, so I’m confident we’ll have a phenomenal ending to this match.

Winner: Styles

Mistress Marie Quick Pick: Styles

Sir Mitch Quick Pick: Styles

Smackdown Women’s Title Match: Natalya (c) vs. Charlotte Flair

Queen KB

I hate to call Nattie a transitional Champion, but she really is.  She’s holding her own, and I adore Nattie, but I truly believe that she was born at the wrong time.  She’s the veteran and doing a much better job of it than Mickie on Raw, but that doesn’t mean she’s at the top of her game either.  She’s grown on me as a heel since she won the strap, but that doesn’t mean she’s a great heel.  I will admit that she and Charlotte will have a great match, and could steal the show with their work, but Charlotte needs to win this match and the strap.  Charlotte will win this one for Ric and will be back on top of the Women’s Division in the WWE, right with Bliss, as she should be.

Winner: Charlotte

Botch

Natalya and Charlotte may very well steal this night. This should be one heck of a match and I’m really looking forward to the story they’ll tell. Carmella still has her case, of course, and I think this will be the night she cashes it in and becomes champ. It will be F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S, YES!

Winner: Charlotte (Carmella cashes in to become NEWWWWW)

Dre

I was pretty surprised to see Charlotte tap out to Natalya on Smackdown this past week. With that said I believe Charlotte redeems herself this Sunday and wins the SD women’s title. I was going back and forth on rather Carmella would cash in or not, but I’m going to predict that they hold off on that and save that for Smackdown itself.

Winner: Charlotte

CJ

I will admit that I, as long as at least 80% of WWE fans, was sick this feud last spring. Their characters have been flipped, to what can arguably be called their “weaker” characters, and for some reason, I’m actually interested. It’s feeling very likely that Charlotte, or maybe even Carmella, will walk out as champ. As much as she has deserved it, I struggle to believe Nattie will remain at the top for much longer.

Winner: Charlotte

Mistress Marie Quick Pick: Natalya

Sir Mitch Quick Pick: Charlotte (Carmella Cashes In MITB Afterwards)

Hell In A Cell Match For The Smackdown Tag Team Title: The New Day (c) vs. The Usos

Queen KB

How are they going to do this in a HIAC?  I heard it was supposed to be two on two in the cell, but we all know that the third will end up in there somehow.  That makes this a handicap match, and while I’m not unhappy about that, it’s something that will make this match really exciting.  All three members of New Day could make this HIAC Match worth watching.  As always, I’m worried about all five in this match, and I don’t think the Usos really know what they’re getting themselves into.  I don’t have any basis for that comment, just a gut feeling.  I know they’ve seen all the HIAC matches, and they’ve seen their father come off the cell into the back of a pickup truck (a great spot which was made much safer for the padding and hay in the back of that truck). But seeing these matches and being in one are two totally different things.  I know Big E, Woods and Kofi have not been in HIAC either, but I have this gut feeling that they are more prepared.  Again, I don’t have anything concrete to base this on, other than gut feeling.  What I do know is that Kofi could really do something stupid and get hurt, or hurt someone else in there, but how do you stop someone who is a bit too dangerous for their own good?

While I have gut feelings about this match, the one feeling that’s the strongest is that New Day shouldn’t drop the straps.  The Usos are still too boring to be Champs right now.  I know there are few other teams on SD, but I’d rather see New Day drop the straps to Benjamin and Gable than to the Usos, yet again!

Winners: New Day

Botch

Again, we can be sure they’ll put on a show. However, we’ve seen this match over, and over, and over, and over, and over…you get the idea. I’m not really invested in the outcome. The issue is that both are beginning to get stale working each other repeatedly. Both need new teams to work with badly. They both did a very good job trying to talk me into this, so I’m there. That said, I’m gonna toss this one in the air and go with the Usos as I imagine they’ll keep the “back and forth” going.

Winner AND NEWWWWW: Usos

CJ

Talk about hype! The New Day and The Usos have put on several clinics this summer, and this will truly be a fitting conclusion to their rivalry. My expectations are unfortunately high, so my fingers are crossed they pull out all the stops. While watching the latest SmackDown, it completely slipped my mind that The New Day are the current champs since the titles have switched hands so many times. I’m confident the champs will retain to proceed with a real reign. The only problem is finding legitimate competition for them. Pulling the trigger on a Harper & Rowan reunion could go a long way.

Winners: New Day

Mistress Marie Quick Pick: New Day

Sir Mitch Quick Pick: New Day

WWE Title Match: Jinder Mahal (c) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura

Queen KB

There’s so much wrong with Mahal being Champion, and the WWE just won’t seem to pull their heads out of their asses about it!  Keeping Mahal strapped until after WWE’s tour of India screams of bad decision to me.  McMahon is trying to build the fan-base thereby parading around a Canadian Champion as if he’s from India.  I know his ethnicity dates back there, but that doesn’t make him a native of India!  Further, strapping a jobber who was only six months sober (which I give him epic props for, because that’s a huge thing for anyone) and looks like he’s jacking the juice! Whether he is or not, he looks that way, and it’s a bad thing for the company all the way around.  The whole thing is a cluster and only gets worse each time he opens his mouth!  It’s time to get the strap off this man, muzzle him, and send him back to jobbing to the likes of Ryder and Corbin.  All that being said, they’re not pulling the strap off him at this point, so Nakamura will end up carrying Mahal through this match, which will only hurt Nakamura.  Nakamura should be WWE Champion, and he better be, quite soon, because this whole Mahal reign is a load of lies and bull piled onto each other, and garnished with a huge heaping of racism.  (I could go on a huge rant here, but I’ll save that for another time.)  It’s a mess and will continue to be a mess until he’s jobbing again.

Winner: Mahal

Botch

I don’t hate on Jinder as many others do, but we do have to be honest. The Jinder Mahal experiment has failed. The ratings with him as champ have not been good. Further, Jinder’s mic work, while not terrible, isn’t where it needs to be. The very best thing about him is the Singh Brothers. They are GREAT foils and should be let loose on the tag team division to show us what we already know they can do. Shinsuke, on the other hand, is over like rover. He has more charisma in his nose hairs than most have in their entire bodies. He deserves to shine. I really hope Shinsuke won and given that he came out on the losing end of the attack on this week’s “Smackdown Live,” I have to go with Shinsuke.

Winner AND NEWWWWW: Shinsuke Nakamura

Dre

This feud hasn’t done either guy any favors. I hate to be negative here, but this feud was all wrong from the word to go. Based on the direction creative has gone with Mahal’s character a feud with someone like Cena or AJ would have made a lot more sense for him. As for Nakamura, he’s still trying to find his stride in the WWE, so Mahal probably wasn’t the best route for him to go at the moment. This feud just isn’t playing to the strengths of either guy sadly, and I don’t think their styles clash very well, but I hope they prove me wrong on Sunday. Having said all that I believe Mahal retains dirty here and I believe both guys do their separate ways shortly afterward and into different feuds.

Winner: Mahal

CJ

Yikes. I don’t remember a time when I wasn’t looking forward to a WWE Championship match. I won’t hide the fact that I can’t stand Jinder Mahal as the company’s top champ, nor will I ignore the fact that Shinsuke Nakamura is slowly being ruined. Where do either men go after this? Nakamura shouldn’t win the title just yet, but Mahal going forward with the title is not “best for business.” I know who’s winning, but I’m not predicting him.

Winner: Nakamura

Mistress Marie Quick Pick: Mahal

Sir Mitch Quick Pick: Nakamura

Hell In A Cell Match: Shane McMahon vs. Kevin Owens

Queen KB

This match should be the main event.  Normally I believe the top Championship match should end each PPV, but Mahal as Champ isn’t believable, and we know he won’t be dropping the strap, so it’s automatically that much more boring.  Shane facing KO in HIAC, on the other hand, could be as show-stopping as Foley coming off the cell, Rikishi coming off the cell, Shane coming of the cell, etc.

Now, I’m hoping this won’t be as scary as Shane’s last HIAC match, because, while he’s a flier, he’s not as young as he used to be.  He’s 47 years old, and that doesn’t mean he can’t go, it just means he should be more careful when he does.  (Got distracted reading Shane’s Wiki page.  (It Really is very interesting.)

I truly expect that these two will take risks that they shouldn’t take.  The added stip of Falls Count Anywhere makes me hope that the ref has to climb to the top of the cell to count the three – if a three is actually counted.  I’m honestly not sure how this one is going to play out, and whoever wins this match, the other wrestler cannot be considered a loser.  I don’t think either of them losing will hurt them.  That being said, I want to see Shane win this one.  I know KO is one of the best, but even the best have bad days, and after everything that KO said to Shane, did to Shane, did to VKM, and how he’s been acting, I think that Shane should win this one.  He needs to prove that he really is in charge, and can handle his own against someone who would do and say such vile things.  I love this, because it’s not PG and feels grittier, more real, than a lot of what we’ve seen from the bubblegum pop WWE had turned into (again). And I expect this match, not just because it’s a HIAC, to be just as real and gritty as the build to it.  KO might have beaten down Shane on SmackDown this week, but that only furthers my belief that Shane will come out on top in this HIAC.

Winner: Shane

Botch

I admit it – I’m invested. Vince and Shane are too. Kevin is back in the same mode he was when he debuted on NXT…and I love it. Ruthless Kevin was always much fun. This is going to be a spectacle and Shane will pull out all the stops and give his body for this one like he always does. Having said that…

Winner: Kevin Owens

Dre

As great as the buildup here has been I get the feeling that this is actually a set up for something even bigger down the road for KO *cough cough HHH*. Look for Owens to win here but don’t expect his beef with the McMahon family to end here.

Winner: KO

CJ

This will probably be the main event of the night, and rightfully so. Kevin and Shane have consistently put on the best segments over the last few months, which has led me to be very excited for their hellacious encounter. People have complained about Shane not being able to work, but as we saw with Styles at WrestleMania, anything can happen. Owens can carry just about anyone. Not only that, but this won’t be a traditional match. This is going to be a downright brawl all over the place. I’m going to boldly predict a heel turn from Sami Zayn at some point during this bout. And, even though I have no idea where he goes from here, I’m going with Owens for the win.

Winner: Owens

Mistress Marie Quick Pick: KO

Sir Mitch Quick Pick: KO
