Greetings from the Emperor: NJPW King Of Pro Wrestling Results And Reaction

Greetings From The Emperor! The Emperor brings you good tidings and all the latest news, results and opinion from New Japan Pro Wrestling. Today we are looking at New Japan’s latest show King Of Pro Wrestling streamed live from (subscription is HIGHLY recommended.) Let’s delve into what transpired, shall we?

Six Man Tag Match
LIJ (Hiromu Takahashi, Bushi, Sanada) def. Bullet Club (Leo Tonga, Yujiro Takahashi, Bad Luck Fale)

Tag Match
Toru Yano & Hirooki Goto def. Zack Sabre Jr. & Minoru Suzuki

IWGP Jr Heavyweight Tag Title Match
Roppongi 3K (Sho & Yo) def. Ricochet & Ryusuke Taguchi (c)

Authors Take: All the Hype Rocky Romero built up, and he gave us the Tempura Boyz in new ring gear “Groan.” But at least Ricochet was his usual brilliant high flying self in this match.

IWGP Heavyweight Title Triple Threat Match
K.E.S. (c) (Davey Boy Smith Jr. & Lance Archer) def. War Machine (Hanson & Rowe) & Guerrillas Of Destiny (Tonga Loa & Tama Tonga)

Six Man Tag Match
Bullet Club (Marty Scurll, Cody, Kenny Omega) def. Chaos (Jado, Beretta, YOSHI-HASHI)

Authors Take: I dare you to find a more over act in Pro Wrestling today than the Bullet Club. Omega, Scrull, and Cody were the most over individuals of the night for sure. Kenny Omega continues to be the biggest draw outside of WWE today, and I can’t wait for him to headline ROH’s Global Wars Chicago PPV (An event that became ROH’s highest-selling to date in mere days after it was announced he was headlining by the way!)

Tag Team Match
Juice Robinson & Kota Ibushi def. Togi Makabe & Hiroshi Tanahashi

IWGP Jr Heavyweight Title Match
Will Ospreay def. Kushida

Authors Take: I look at New Japan’s Jr Heavyweight division, and I weep for WWE’s Cruiserweight’s! Kota Ibushi and Zack Sabre Jr. had the right idea signing with New Japan and not WWE that’s for sure. Will Ospreay is slowly becoming the stuff of legend in the world of Pro Wrestling, and matches like this prove that fact.

Marty Scrull coming out to make his challenge for the Title is LONG overdue in my mind. Even though Ospreay and Scrull have worked together in the U.K. dozens of times, few outside that country have had the pleasure of seeing it. I have no doubt it will be a classic.

Oh, and it looks like Takahashi being taken out by someone else every time he tries to make a challenge for the Title is going to be a hilarious ongoing storyline!

WrestleKingdom Main Event Opportunity On The Line
Tetsuya Naito def. Tomohiro Ishii

IWGP Heavyweight Title Match
Kazuchika Okada def. EVIL

Authors Take: Two things become evident when watching this match.
1. EVIL is the most improved Pro Wrestler of 2017.
2. Okada is arguably the very best Pro Wrestling working anywhere today.
The tease between Okada and Naito after the match to hype up WrestleKingdom come May fourth was icing on the cake for a great night of Pro Wrestling done right!
