Cruiserweight Title Match
Enzo Amore vs Kalisto
Honestly, I had to check online because I didn’t remember which of them held the strap this week. Since it’s Zo with the strap, and Botch claiming that Zo is getting better in the ring (couldn’t get much worse, he could only get better!), and he’s the best of the 205 Division on mic, he should keep the strap – for now. I’m hoping this match is worth the time and helps bring more interest to 205 Live.
As much as I would like to see the Cruiserweight Title not be on the kickoff show so often, I don’t really have a problem with it this time. Kalisto vs. Enzo has run its course in my eyes, so I’m ready to move on. It was a nice, refreshing feud… but there’s not much riding on the line anymore. It seems Enzo could be champ for a while, perhaps until WrestleMania. I can’t see Kalisto winning here, but I’m sure he’ll continue his winning ways in the 205 division after Survivor Series.
Prediction – Enzo retains
Enzo AMORE (via Gulak interference)
Enzo is getting better and Kalisto can work his face off so this might be interesting. Gulak will add something interesting to this and I think we’ll be sufficiently entertained. Mostly, Enzo will entertain us on the mic before the match begins like he always does.
THE WINNAH: ENZO AMORE
Is it bad that I just feel “MEH” for the Cruiserweights without Neville and Aries in the division?
Winner: Enzo Amore
The Miz vs Baron Corbin
The only reason this match won’t be a total snooze-fest is because of Miz. He’s great on mic, great in the ring, and so the unexpected amazing superstar. Looking back at him on Real World it’s truly shocking to see what he’s grown into. Watching Miz on the WWE App, as he talked over him and R-Truth tagging against Cena and Rocky at Survivor Series 2011, reminded me of just how great he is, even toned down. Further, I’d love to see have a run with the Universal Championship, while I really don’t think Corbin has what it takes to hold the WWE Championship. I have tried to believe Corbin, but I just don’t. He doesn’t impress me in any way at all, and he will never be what Miz has built himself to be.
Here we have two slimy heels, who probably don’t like each other in real life, forced to feud over social media or on the mic because they’re on opposite brands. I’ll give credit where credit is due. They both have captured my attention through their Twitter promos and rants. The Miz knew he had to find a way to generate some kind of interest. With that said, I struggle to think Corbin will actually win. He hasn’t really done much as US Champion, so I say Miz finds a way to win.
Prediction – Miz
Miz (via interference from Bo & Axel)
I’m not really invested in this one at all. I absolutely dig Miz and want a better match for him than this. It’s Baron I’m not invested in. He’s boring and I have no interest in him. This will likely act as a cool-down between the ladies and Bar/Usos. I’m going with…
THE WINNAH: THE MIZ
Out of all the matches, I’m least excited for this. I’m not a fan of the heel vs. heel element. I wouldn’t be disappointed if this was bumped to the kickoff. If I had to guess, The Miztourage will get involved and cost Corbin the match.
Winner: The Miz
Cesaro & Sheamus vs The Usos
This one is actually hard for me. I so want to see Cesaro succeed in the WWE, specifically as a singles competitor at the top of the roster, but I don’t see this match mattering in any way for his future. On the other hand, I doubt the Usos will be breaking up at any point soon. They are a team and should be shown pushed hard as a team. It’s for this reason I see the Usos winning, but only after a hard-fought battle.
I think it’s really cool that this match is a pseudo rematch from last year’s 10-on-10 tag team bout where these two teams were the finalists. As much as I would’ve loved to have seen The Shield vs. The Usos, I can accept this bout. There’s no doubt that they have the potential to steal the whole dang show. Since I’m torn on who to pick to win, I think it would be nice to see The Usos avenge last year’s loss to keep their momentum going.
Prediction – The Usos
The Usos (clean)
This is gonna be another well-worked match. Everyone involved can REALLY go so I’m looking forward to this one. Not a huge amount of build here either but the work will be spectacular. They’ll all give it what they’ve got. I just hope the crowd can be into it after Miz/Baron. I think the team that could benefit the most from taking this is…
THE WINNAH: THE BAR
I feel really bad about not being excited about this match. Both teams are phenomenal, but that heel vs. heel element just doesn’t appeal to me. I just get the feeling these two teams won’t mesh well. Maybe I’m wrong. Time will tell
Winner: The Usos
Alexa Bliss vs Charlotte Flair
Dream match! A lot of people have complained about the size difference between Alexa and Charlotte, but remember the amazing matches Gail Kim had with Awesome Kong in TNA? We know it’s possible, and these two women can do almost anything. Charlotte worked with Sasha who is tiny, and Alexa worked with Nia, so I don’t think that will detract from the match at all. Honestly, this should be a jaw-dropping, edge of the seat, puddle of drool match, and Alexa will try to cheat to win, but it will be Nattie who costs Charlotte the win in this match.
I’m certainly looking forward to this battle of the Queen and Goddess. These two women have been at the top of each brand over the last year, which has certainly been fun to watch. It was nice to see Natalya finally get at least one last run, but she really didn’t do much as champion. I fully expect Charlotte to continue her winning streak when she beats Bliss in this match.
Prediction – Charlotte
I dig mean girl! She is just brilliant. Charlotte can work her face off too. This one may end up taking the night. They certainly have the goods to deliver. This is another one that’s not really built so either one could win and I won’t be mad. However, since Charlotte just won the title on the Smackdown side…
THE WINNAH: CHARLOTTE FLAIR
To my knowledge, Alexa Bliss and Charlotte have only faced once before in singles competition in 2014 in the Semi-Finals of the NXT Women’s Championship Tournament. Both of them have come so far since then, and this is one of the matches I am most excited for. While it looks like they strapped Charlotte solely for this match, but I don’t see them booking her over in this match. Alexa Bliss is on a hot streak and it just doesn’t make sense to kill that.
Winner: Alexa Bliss
The Shield vs The New Day
I’m very excited for this match. New Day is more than silly and they proved that in HIAC, so I know they can hang with The Shield no problem. I think this will be an amazing match, and I’m thinking we are going to see the very small start of issues within New Day. They foreshadowed so hard on SD this week, so there’s going to be cracks forming within the group. As strong as Big E is in the ring, I don’t think Woods and Kofi have what it takes to take The Shield down as a whole. Ambrose and Rollins are top superstars, and they keep pushing Reigns to be the face of Raw. Whether together or apart, they are three unstoppable forces, but I cannot say that about New Day. Now, I’m sure this will be an amazing match, but in the end, The Shield will walk out with the win.
I’m not sure that this was WWE’s original plan when building this event, but I’m not complaining one bit. Additionally, if this is one of the last matches for one of these teams, then I’m very thankful it’s happening here. Some feel that The New Day’s time as a trio may be coming to an end, which wouldn’t be a horrible thing. Much like The Shield a few years ago, The New Day have done it all. I’m calling for The Shield to prove their reunion isn’t just a fluke.
Prediction – The Shield
The Shield (clean)
This is gonna be fun! These two teams will tear it up! This match has some interesting build but I’m most looking forward to the work itself. Should be fantastic. Given that The Shield essentially just got back together, they kinda have to take this.
THE WINNAHS: THE SHIELD
When you look at the card, it could be very easy to overlook this match. I have a feeling this may be one of the best matches of the night though. All six man can go, and I look for something special from all these men. I also anticipate that we will begin to actually see cracks in New Day moving forward. It’s high time they split into their individual careers.
Winner: The Shield
AJ Styles vs Brock Lesner
My only hope is that BL doesn’t injury AJ. Yes, AJ is a pro, but BL is The Beast Incarnate and doesn’t seem to remember that he’s not in the Octagon when he’s in the WWE ring. We’ve seen Rey Mysterio go over some pretty big guys and make it look realistic, so why not AJ? He could absolutely make it look great, and more than deserves a HUGE win, which, I will admit, BL really is. So, in my heart, I believe AJ should and deserves the win for all the work he puts in and has put in for the better part of two decades. I know it’s an emotional want, but I am who I am, passionate about the greats.
Thank the wrestling gods we don’t have to endure Lesnar vs. Mahal. I still don’t understand what the appeal in that match was. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – I’d rather see Lesnar beat Styles than having a chance of seeing Mahal beat Lesnar. Now, it’d be really cool to see Styles shock the world and pick up a sneaky win over The Beast. I would be elated. However, I just don’t see it happening. My fingers are crossed that AJ lives to fight another day.
Prediction – Lesnar
Brock Lesnar (clean)
If anyone’s gonna get a good match out of Brock, it’ll be AJ. Given that it wasn’t really built (it was originally Jinder as we all know), I’m only invested in AJ because…he’s AJ. Of course, Brock will throw a lot of suplexes and do little else. He’ll also win.
THE WINNAH: BROCK LESNAR
If you told me a couple weeks ago that I would be excited about a Brock Lesnar match, I would say you need a bed in the loony bin next to Dean Ambrose! With that said, I don’t expect much from this match. I sincerely hope they don’t force this into the main. It needs to be short, sweet, and simple. Obviously, Brock will go over to continue looking strong heading towards Mania against Reigns.
Winner: Brock Lesnar
Women’s Survivor Series Match
Team Raw (Alicia Fox, Bayley, Sasha Banks, Nia Jax, Asuka) vs Team Smackdown (Becky Lynch, Carmella, Naomi, Tamina, Natalya)
The things I want to see most in this match are Bayley showing some of the edginess she had in NXT, and really put it to the women of SD. Of course Foxy has to do something to really hurt her team and mess everyone up, to the point of getting Asuka counted out (the only way to get Asuka out of the match). I want to see solid work from Tamina, maybe even giving her the final pinfall of the match. Lastly, I want to see someone new added to Team SD. Whether it’s Paige, or someone completely unexpected coming up from NXT (if only for one night), like Moon? Just a thought, but I don’t want to see Nattie fill the hole just because she’s there.
I’m digging the potential element of surprise in this one with SmackDown having one open spot left. Obviously the top options include Natalya, Paige, or Nikki Bella. I can’t say of them would be disappointing, but obviously Paige returning in some form here would be the most exciting. With Raw having Asuka, it’s hard to imagine Team Red doesn’t win. Of course they could eliminate her by DQ or count-out, but I’d almost rather see Asuka really show off her dominance by being the sole survivor.
Prediction – Team Raw
Woman’s Team RAW (clean)
This one will be all about great work. These are some of the very best in wrestling period so I know they’ll work this one for all it’s worth. I wonder who’ll take Charlotte’s place? Natalya? Paige? Paige would be the most fun although she created some heat for herself by being photographed with Foxy and posting it to Twitter on Monday. This is another one that may steal the night and I’m all about it.
THE WINNAH: RAW
The general consensus among a lot of people is that the women will steal the show, and I do no disagree. I look for this match to be an instant classic. I will admit to having my worries about the booking of the match. Mostly when it comes to Asuka. I don’t see Team RAW winning this match and the Women’s Champions match. However, the only reasonable way to eliminate Asuka is to either have her get DQ’d or counted out. It just doesn’t make sense to end her undefeated streak here.
Winner: Team Smackdown
Men’s Survivor Series Match
Team Raw (Kurt Angle, Triple H, Braun Strowman, Finn Balor, Samoa Joe) vs Team Smackdown (Shane McMahon, Bobby Roode, Randy Orton, Shinsuke Nakamura, John Cena)
This will be so much fun to watch! There will be so many great moments in this match, and I cannot even fathom what most of them are. Obviously, we have a number of wildcards floating around outside this match. There are Sami and KO who are pissed off at Shane, and almost everyone else. There’s Kane who has it in for Strowman in a big way. And then there’s Jason Jordan who, I’m sure, won’t let Trip taking him out lightly, but will he go after Trip or Angle?
Sadly I don’t think a number of the guys will last long but will look great before going out. The back and forth in this match will be so much greatness, but who will be the last man standing? To be honest, I don’t see anyone on Team SD lasting longer than Angle, Trip, and Strowman. Shane has to be taken out by Sami and KO. I’d love to see Nakamura or Roode take out Trip. I just see it as a great stepping stone for either of them. As much as I adore Nakamura, it would be only fitting for Roode, the man who I have said as long as I can remember, that he’s very much a younger Trip in so many ways. And who better to take out Trip than one of his NXT Champions? Will Jordan take out his ‘father?’ It wouldn’t surprise me. The thing is, in the end, I see Bryan getting involved and costing Team SD the win and shaking up both Raw and SD in the process. Not saying Bryan is turning heel, just that it’s time for his character to evolve even more, and with the build, there’s been, there has to be a HUGE swerve right at the end of this match, at the end of this PPV, and who better than Bryan?
What a group of elite wrestlers. This is a who’s-who of professional wrestling! The worst part about that is these guys have to be eliminated one-by-one. Raw seems to have a lot more riding on the line, and I’ve thought they were going to win since the get go. Perhaps Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Jason Jordan, or someone else gets involved to cost SmackDown. Team Blue has been super confident over the last month. Since they won last year, it would also make sense for Raw to get their revenge. It’d be fun to see Braun Strowman be the sole survivor.
Prediction – Team Raw
Men’s Team Smackdown (via Jason Jordan interference) *Nakamura as the sole Survivor
This is, of course, the one with the most backstory behind it. They built it really well and I’m definitely invested. There’s a combination of great work and great show in this one that’ll interest everyone. One has to wonder if Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, and Jason Jordan will get involved to screw up the finish on this one. As a dirty finish would be more fun, I’m going with a screw and I think Jason Jordan will cause it.
THE WINNAH: SMACKDOWN
This match needs to be a cluster. There is so many rogue elements, and so many angles to work with. You have Sami/Owens with every reason to cost Smackdown the match. You also have Bryan who has hinted at not being happy with Shane. Also, over on RAW, you have Jason Jordan who may be seeking revenge on Triple H/Kurt Angle for screwing him out of his spot in the match. Kane may be seeking revenge on Braun Strowman. I’m split on who will win, but if I have to guess, I’d say Smackdown is coming out on top tonight.
Winner: Team Smackdown
