Plans For Finn vs. Brock At Royal Rumble Scrapped?

You never know when things can change in WWE and apparently, Brock Lesnar doesn’t have a dance partner for the Royal Rumble anymore because of it.

Dave Meltzer is reporting that Vince McMahon has changed his mind about Finn Balor as a top name going into the Rumble. The first ever Universal Champion was supposed to face Brock Lesnar at Royal Rumble for the Universal Championship, but apparently, this goes to show once again that all plans can change. If you were wondering why Paul Heyman was going out of his way to put over Balor in promos (listen to his promo from last week), it’s because they were planning for Lesnar vs. Balor in January.

When Kane defeated Balor with ease on the Raw after TLC, the thinking was there was still time to bring Balor’s real estate value back up by the Royal Rumble event. But Meltzer says Vince McMahon doesn’t think Balor is “over enough” so those plans are being changed. This might be why Samoa Joe went over in such dominant fashion on Raw this week.

However, to make matters more interesting, WWE doesn’t have anyone in mind to replace Finn Balor just yet. It wouldn’t do Braun Strowman any favors to get that match because the WrestleMania 34 main event is still Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns which has been the main event since before WrestleMania 33 even started.

Authors Take: This is why so many people are now saying Vince is out of touch! Finn Balor is plenty over (the reaction he got from his match with AJ Styles is recent proof of this). Don’t be surprised if Vince backflips on this once it becomes clear there is no one else Brock could face at the Rumble!
