Raw & Smackdown With Limited Commercials

The WWE hasn’t shied away from controversy, ever, but this week the outcry has been about Raw airing on Christmas night and SD airing the following night.  As a result, the WWE has stepped up and announced that both shows will air with limited commercial interruption, with the first hour of Raw sans commercials altogether.

To further excite, or distract us, they included plans for the upcoming 25th anniversary.

The press release from the WWE and USA reads in part:

MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM USA NETWORK AND WWE®

STAMFORD, Conn., December 21, 2017 – Celebrate the holidays with WWE as USA Network airs the first hour of both Monday Night Raw® and SmackDown Live® commercial-free this Monday, December 25 at 8/7c and Tuesday, December 26 at 8/7c. This also marks the first time that USA Network will air Raw live on Christmas.

The 25th anniversary of Raw will emanate from Barclays Center and Manhattan Center in New York City on Monday, January 22, 2018, and air live on USA Network at 8/7c. WWE Superstars from both Monday Night Raw and SmackDown® Live will be at Barclays Center, while the event at Manhattan Center, the site of the first episode of Raw in 1993, will feature both WWE Superstars competing, and special appearances by WWE Legends Undertaker®, Shawn Michaels® and Kevin Nash®, amongst others.

Queen’s DecreeI’m thrilled and so excited for the 25th anniversary episode of Raw.  I know it’s going to be an extravaganza, and I’m going to be marking out all night. (HBK, Nash, and Taker!!!).  On the other hand, I’m really upset that the WWE couldn’t step back and run 2017 recap shows for Raw and SD.  Yes, it’s Christmas night and they’re giving us something to watch (and I will be here for Dignified Discussion both nights), but I feel for the superstars who have to work and cannot spend the holiday with their family.  I know the McMahon family is all about business and some people have to work Christmas day, but there’s really no reason the superstars have to work that night.  Further, with limited to no commercials, they will be working that much more Christmas night.  I don’t think anyone would complain about a recap show if they take the time to do more than DVR the show in the first place. So not impressed.
