Moments after Ronda Rousey walked out to the ring in Wells Fargo Center after the conclusion of the first-ever Women’s Royal Rumble match, ESPN conducted an interview where she shared some details on her new deal with WWE.
In it, the former UFC Women’s Bantamweight champion makes it clear that – despite how her sign-pointing debut may have made it look – she’s not in sports entertainment for a one-off WrestleMania angle.
Regarding her deal to become a “full-time professional wrestler”, Rousey said:
“This is my life now. First priority on my timeline for the next several years. This is not a smash-and-grab; this is not a publicity stunt. When I first met with Triple H, I told him, ‘There are other things I can do with my time that’ll make way more money, but I won’t enjoy nearly as much.”
In the interview, she also talks about whether she is officially retired from MMA, her two UFC losses and her relationship with the late “Rowdy” Roddy Piper and how his family lent her his famous leather jacket for her Royal Rumble appearance.
