Rey Mysterio Is Headed To New Japan Pro Wrestling!

Still no word on whether or not Chris Jericho will be in Long Beach when New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) returns to the United States for Strong Style Evolved on March 25, but we learned today another name that’s been on a lot of WWE fan’s lips lately would be.

Rey Mysterio appeared via the big screen at the New Beginning in Osaka iPPV last night Japanese time to announce he’s making his New Japan debut in California next month. He closed the promo by calling out the living legend Jushin “Thunder” Liger.

Liger was on commentary and accepted the challenge, and the promotion has begun promoting their bout. So this is officially the first match booked for Strong Style Evolved.

This is not the first time Rey and Liger have squared off in the ring (they had several classic matches in WCW in the 90’s), but it’s something fans in Long Beach are going to love seeing!

As of press time, it is unknown whether this is a one-shot deal for Rey and he’s still negotiating with WWE or if he’s signed a full-time deal with New Japan.

Sir Mitch Says: NJPW’s Strong Style Evolved show sold out the 5,000 seat Walter Pyramid in under 20 minutes last week! So the promotion didn’t really need a hook to sell the show to fans…but they have one anyway now!
