WWE Planning 100,000 Seat Show In Australia

The world-famous Melbourne Cricket Ground could hold one of the biggest Pro Wrestling events of all time if WWE has its way. Several mainstream media outlets in Australia are reporting that WWE is planning to hold a show in the 100,000 seat venue in October of this year and an announcement could be coming as soon as WrestleMania weekend!

Australia has become a bigger priority for WWE in recent years after they began holding yearly tours in the country since 2002 with the company signing the biggest names in the country’s ever-growing independent scene like Buddy Murphy, Billie Kay, Peyton Royce and the tag team, TM-61.

The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG for short) is a historic stadium in Melbourne, Australia which holds the biggest Australian Rules Football games, International Test Cricket Matches, and Rock Concerts!

Sir Mitch Says: Simply put, I don’t think WWE can come close to selling out “the G” as it’s known affectionately in Melbourne! The UFC could only half-fill the venue with Ronda Rousey headlining in 2015 (which resulted in the event being moved to the smaller Etihad Stadium) and Pro Wrestling while growing in popularity every year in Australia is still a niche product here when compared to North America, Mexico, and Japan.

More to the point WWE is struggling to sell tickets in 15,000 seat arenas in said countries at the moment, so this feels like bad timing to try and pull this off!
