On his podcast, Jerry Lawler talked about a secret that he’d been hiding for a few week – he’d suffered a stroke. Sadly, this is not a surprise as he doesn’t eat well at all and he continues to work in the ring at 68 years-old. Here’s my transcription of part of his story.
Jerry: March 21, 2018 at about 6:30pm, I was just here at my house. We were scheduled to leave the next day to go to LA or Anaheim for the WonderCon…we had a big couple weeks coming up ahead of us. Around 6:30 in the evening, I had a stroke. Kind of out of the clear blue. I was feeling basically fine…and you know…[Lorne] and I were together…anyway, at the end of that, I got up and said something to Lorne…and she said, “what did you say?” and I realized then that whatever I said didn’t sound right. “Did I just say something that didn’t sound right?…Oh my god, look in the mirror”. So I walk around to the bathroom, look in the mirror, and the whole right side of my mouth is drooping….and I couldn’t even speak. “Oh my god, Jerry, you’re having a stroke”…my blood pressure was 256/145…
He goes on to say that he kept it very close to the vest and that only Kevin Dunn, Triple H, and Vince McMahon knew about it. He managed to get out of the hospital on Saturday just before the HOF ceremony.
Botch Take: Scary stuff. 256/145 is more than enough to kill you. He’s had some real misses over the last few years and my hope is that this wakes him up and gets him to change his lifestyle before it’s too late. You can’t really get any scarier warnings than the ones he’s had.
