One of the biggest female wrestling stars in Japan could be headed to WWE. Tokyo Sports is reporting that Io Shirai will be reporting to the Performance Center after her final show with Stardom on June 17.
Shirai has been on WWE’s radar since first being contacted by them in 2016. A deal was reached last May, but WWE discovered a possible heart issue, so the offer was pulled. Shirai was later cleared after a full medical exam and her name had come up again in recent weeks.
The rumors about her going to WWE heated up when she lost the Wonder of Stardom Title on Wednesday night, but reportedly the title change had nothing to do with WWE as Stardom did not know she was leaving until Sunday.
Sir Mitch Says: Io Shirai has been known as the “Ace” of Stardom for quite some time and considering the amount of raw talent that has come through that promotion over the years (Asuka, Kairi Sane and half the competitors involved the Mae Young Classic) that is really saying something!
