Not too long ago, NOBODY would have ever imagined WWE would acknowledge top wrestlers from another wrestling company. But it’s now 2018, and it now seems like anything is possible.
It was announced on Sunday that The New Day (Xavier Woods, Big E and Kofi Kingston) would be facing The Elite (Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks) would face each other in a three on three Street Fighter Video Game battle at the E3 festival this week. Woods and Omega had a one on one Street Fighter showdown at E3 in 2016 that saw Omega get the win much to Woods dismay:
In case you already couldn’t tell Omega and Woods have actually been friends for years and they have been going at it on social media in recent weeks over who is the better Street Fighter player. Capcom, the makers of the game, got involved and they set up the match a few days ago.

But of course, the real talking point of this story is the fact that WWE has chosen to promote it
The following was included in the story on WWE.com:
“…Omega’s partners would be IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks. Nick & Matt Jackson will join Omega, their running mate in The Elite, setting the stage for a battle that many sports-entertainment fans thought would never happen.”
That wasn’t all. The story, written by WWE.com staff writer Bobby Melok, continued:
“Will Omega, the self-proclaimed “Best Bout Machine,” unleash the V-Trigger on his way to a six-star Street Fighter classic before saying goodbye and goodnight to his rivals? Will The Young Bucks make Ken and Ryu put on a virtual superkick party?”
You may be asking why WWE is all of a sudden giving press to the hottest act in Pro Wrestling outside their bubble? Well, the answer is the same answer to the question why New Japan Pro Wrestling finally gave The Young Bucks what they wanted by moving them to their Heavyweight Tag Team division and why Omega won the IWGP Heavyweight Title. Namely, Omega and The Young Bucks contracts with New Japan are up in six months!
