Update on Lesnar’s Contract Status

Last week, I posted an article concerning Brock Lesnar’s future in the WWE, which can be read at this link. Since that time, we have gotten more word about that story developing. According to numerous sources, Vince McMahon is the one that pulled the plug on the multiman match at Extreme Rules because he didn’t want it and didn’t like how it was developing.

The rant that was put out by Paul Heyman on Facebook was actually 100% a work to get people to buy into the idea that Lesnar was behind it. The plan as of right now is to have Roman Reigns vs Bobby Lashley at Extreme Rules, with Reigns going on to win that match. This would in turn set up yet another rivalry with Roman and Brock. Vince seems to think that by having those two involved with one another in a match at SummerSlam for the Title, he can get Roman more over with the audience and against Brock, turning Roman into a full blown baby face.

It is important to note here, that as of right now, Brock’s contract does only run through SummerSlam, however, there have been negotiations to get it extended through WrestleMania. The hang up with that part of the deal is Brock wants to be able to return to UFC while under WWE Contract, and Vince isn’t 100% comfortable letting that happen. If we get anymore details behind this developing story, we will be sure to pass it along.

Jester’s Jest: I am 100% AGAINST Vince’s line of thinking here! First of all, having a match between just Reigns and Lesnar would be a massive turnoff to WWE fans and would not sell. The only option here to save that match would be to involve a 3rd wrestler, namely Bobby Lashley, which could happen if Lesnar interferes at Extreme Rules. Secondly, why is Vince so against Lesnar fighting in UFC at the same time? This would be a massive deal with implications upon both UFC and WWE that could result is cross-branded matches and PPV’s down the road. Thirdly, the only other way I could see a match between Reigns and Lesnar being saved is if Strowman cashes in at SummerSlam and inserts himself as the 3rd member of the match. Either way, I hope Vince comes to the realization that having a match with those 2 alone is just a bad idea!
