The Main Event Always Belonged to Me

Hey, kids.  It’s the Botching One with another “205 Live” Pickup!  I’ve actually being enjoying “205 Live” lately.  There was some talk backstage about Mitch trading me “205 Live” for putting together the PPV predicts and I politely declined.  Glad I did.  It’s all been going much better since that conversation and I’m finally enjoying covering the show.  Let’s get to it, shall we?

Teaser de 205 – Drake Maverick

I like these!  They do what teasers do and Drake is very spirited and passionate when he does them.  Kudos to whoever’s idea this was.

Akira Tozawa vs. Gentleman Jack Gallagher (w/ promo from Gallagher & The Brian Kendrick) [Drake Maverick on commentary]

Great promo from Gallagher.  Maverick is the one responsible for telling all the story while the competitors work.  He’s kind of like the narrator for everyone and I like it.  As for the match, both of these guys are so good and both of them are miscast.  Akira is just dripping in personality and Gallagher is too.  Both of them should be face.  It’s not that Gallagher isn’t a good heel.  He is…he’s just a better face.  Akira feels a bit jailed to me personality-wise and they need to set him free.  They’re blowing it with both of them and so people aren’t as into them as they once were.  Joint manipulation is always fun when the worker sells it well and Tozawa did a great job at that.  I was quite surprised to see Tozawa take this and I couldn’t be happier.  I wouldn’t have been mad if Gallagher had won either.  I like them both.  I just wish booking would do right by them.

Tozawa wants Lio again and I can’t wait for it.  They were fun together last week.

Backstage segment – TJP

Well done.  He’s doing the arrogance thing far better than I thought he would.  He was so bland as a face and this heel turn is just what the doctor ordered.  Good for him.

Backstage segment – Hideo Itami

Despite the language difficulty, he did well too.  It was kept just long enough for him to make his point but not so long that it made him search for words and stumble.

Lucha House Party (Kalisto & Lince Dorado) vs. Ryan Depolo & Chris Robinson

I desperately need a break from them.  They’re just so completely boring to me.  They’re just miscellaneous happy guys with percussion.  Don’t get me wrong – they’re great workers.  Nigel is right though.  Their antics really are tired.  Lince Dorado’s dive is very ACH-esque but he does it well.  The indie guys jobbed hard and the result was expected.  Ryan Depolo goes by the name Ace Austin and has a YouTube channel you can check out (here).  I can’t identify Chris Robinson unfortunately but he did what was asked here and did it well.

Backstage segment – Drew Gulak

Short and sweet.  Gulak kills these.

Backstage segment – Mustafa Ali

The guy is all heart.  This was short (these always are) but he got a lot across there.  Nice job.

Backstage segment – Lio Rush

I just…I…it was excellent.  It always is.  I’m out of superlatives.  He’s the one I always look forward to the most when I watch “205 Live” and he never lets me down.  He didn’t do it here either.

Mustafa Ali vs. Drew Gulak vs. Hideo Itami vs. TJP

This was fun.  Who doesn’t love a good 3 on 1?  Very inventive moves ensued when Gulak, Itami, and TJP turned on each other too.  TJPs double Abdominal Stretch was really cool!  The grappling here was better than I thought we’d see.  They can do it; I just didn’t think we’d see it.  The chemistry between these four was really something to see.  I’m so glad someone else is getting a shot.  I could definitely deal with Gulak as Cruiserweight Champ.  I never thought he’d actually win here but I’m glad he did.

Very good episode of “205 Live”.  Good storytelling and good matches.  That’s all I’ve ever wanted for this show and I’m finally getting it now.  See you next week for another one!
