The Future truly is Illustrious and I, your Botching one, will do his level best to take you on a guided tour. Let’s dive in, shall we?
Adam Cole (Bay Bay) vs. Sean Maluta
This was a fairly short match with Maluta, a former competitor in the Cruiserweight Classic, taking the loss. Some decent back and forth but the outcome was never in doubt.
In-ring segment – Adam Cole & Ricochet, War Raiders, & Mustache Mountain
The promo after it was killer too. Ricochet and Adam were fun going back and forth with each other. Ricochet has a tremendous polish on him I wasn’t expecting. I figured he’d have to get used to this but he doesn’t. He just does it…and incredibly well.
Cinéma de Boardroom – William Regal, Shayna Baszler & Kairi Sane
Shayna is just platinum. Kairi did okay here but Shayna was clearly driving. “I can beat her”? Nah. From a storyline perspective, there’s no proof that Kairi can. We’ll see, I guess. Shayna dressed her down appropriately and perfectly. Regal was almost completely out of it – just sitting between them with the contract. Very well done!
Tenilla Price vs. Lacey Evans
A simple jobber match. They’re building Lacey and for good reason. She’s becoming more fun than she used to be. We must remember that NXT isn’t just a third brand; it’s also a developmental system and Lacey is benefitting from that.
Backstage segment – Shayna Baszler & Candice LaRae
This was a quick little thing. The usual “if you’ve got something to say, Shayna, say it to my face”. Candice wasn’t angry enough and it wasn’t particularly believable, honestly. Shayna was great though – not caring one bit about any of it.
Backstage segment – Bianca Belair
Such sass…LOL! I love her madly. She has no time for nonsense and I love it.
Aleister Black vs. Tommaso Ciampa
I always wondered what happened to all of the Oompa Loompa’s after “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory” so it’s nice to see that they’ve hired one to referee this match. He’s become quite built too over the years too so that’s nice. Okay, the match. WWE already spoiled this (I HATE that!) so we already know who took it. Few do ring psychology better than these two so this was so much fun. I love the Aleister “Indian style” thing when he’s getting the better of his opponent. Ciampa gave it right back to him after making Black eat floor. They went after each other mercilessly. The near-finishes were just incredible. We even got an old fashioned Dusty finish. Johnny Gargano made an error and now Tommaso is your winner…..AND NEW!!!!!! Matches rarely get better than this…ANYWHERE!
I should also mention that Percy really is getting better. He’s not so lost for words and he’s not afraid to speak up when he wants to either. He’s involved now more than ever before. This is great in that given both Nigel’s and Percy’s improvement, they help to neutralize Mauro a bit which I am all for.
Really good episode of “NXT”. Even if it only had the last match, it would count as a really good episode of “NXT”. The next TakeOver is beginning to take shape as well. See you next week for another look into The Illustrious Future that is NXT!
