I’ll Play His Game, I’ll Drink His Kool-Aid…

Hey, kids.  It’s the Baron of all things Botch ready for another look into the Illustrious Future of NXT.  The TakeOver card is once again shaping up to be spectacular and despite what Braun Strowman says, this is the best show WWE puts out…and it’s not close.  Let’s dive in, shall we?

Heavy Machinery (Otis Dozovic & Tucker Knight) vs. The Mighty (Shane Thorne & Nick Miller)

The Airplane Spin Slam tho!  I love that he sold his own dizziness too.  Great stuff.  I love Heavy Machinery unabashedly.  They’re so much fun.  This was a decent match for sure.  The Street Profits came out quite unexpectedly and wreaked havoc in the crowd.  Awesome!  It also ended the match for all intents and purposes as it allowed Otis to use the Compactor on poor Nick.  The Street Profits is another team I love dearly and I’m so glad we’re seeing them again.  This is clearly going to give us a fun feud between The Mighty and the Street Profits.

Moustache Mountain (Trent Seven & Tyler Bate) vs. Mac Knotts & Bradley Taylor

To be fair, the intro of the job team occurred off the air so I’m just guessing at the first name.  It could be wrong.  I hate to do that as I like to get all of that right.  Bate is an animal.  LOL!!  That opening sequence was hilarious.  Knotts didn’t know which end was up.  Moustache Mountain are just beasts and this was fun.  The speed and power both exhibited ended this match all too quickly.  The crowd ate every millisecond of this up.  The jobbers sold admirably too.

The talking after the match was a bit weaker.  It did its job and that’s all I can say for it.  They’re still new to this and I’m sure it’ll improve but the talking portion wasn’t good.

EC3 vs. Kona Reeves

Thus far, they’ve done absolutely nothing with EC3 thus far.  He’s shown up a couple of times on TV and debuted at the last TakeOver show but beyond that, very little.  There’s so much incredible talent there that I’m assuming he’s just had to wait his turn.  They seem to be moving on him a little bit now which I’m all for.  He’s such a great talent.  I’m starting to like Kona too…a little.  He’s dripping in arrogance a la Lio Rush but he doesn’t do it quite as well.  Few do so Kona is still moving in the right direction.  He also has amazing hair but that’s another story.

So Kona is adopting the Cobra Clutch as the Kona Clutch?  I can dig it!  It’s not to see that move again – even if it doesn’t finish like it did when Sergeant Slaughter used it so many years ago.  Velveteen Dream came out and dripped in his Velveteen-ness.  When he snapped his finger and the NXT logo came back up on the Tron, I died.  Kona almost took the win off the distraction but EC3 had to win.  The point of this was to move the Velveteen Dream/EC3 feud forward – a feud I am all for.

Cinéma de One Percent

Great talker.  He really showed it in Impact and now that he’s here, he’s still showing it.  Very well done!

Candice LeRae vs. Shayna Baszler

How can you not love Candice?  She’s just so sweet.  No, really, she’s really sweet in real life too.  Johnny and she are so great with the fans and really take the time to connect with them.  Both of them are such great people in reality.

Baszler (I’ll settle on a spelling soon – I promise) is just an animal.  She’s kinda rolling with the same gimmick that Kevin Owens came in with but she’s doing it her own way.  She doesn’t care what you think.  She only cares about herself.  She’s every bit the talker Owens is and every bit the worker he is too.  Baszler is absolutely sadistic.  When she has you down, she gives NO quarter.  I have to say that LeRae didn’t sell very well, though she didn’t forget the arm while she worked.  Her face doesn’t show the pain like it should.  The commentators (yes, Mauro too) and Shayna sold that damage better than LeRae did.  Candice even gave us an Unprettier.  Don’t see that much.  Shayna got the Clutch on her and it was over.  Of course, Shayna is merciless so she had to put it on again after the match ended.  Kairi came out to keep that feud in people’s minds and that was cool too.  Kairi wanted a piece of her and the refs wouldn’t let it happen.  They can’t connect just yet – TakeOver’s still a little ways away.

I also love that the ref was female too.  You go, ladies!

Cinéma de Outside – Moustache Mountain & War Raiders (Rowe and Hanson)

More talking…from people who aren’t ready to do it yet.

Backstage segment – William Regal

He showed up from his desk to add Ricochet vs. Adam Cole (Bay Bay).  He did what was needed.

In-ring segment – Tomasso Ciampa, Johnny Gargano, & Aleister Black

They hate him…and he drinks it like water.  They yell at him quite directly at him and he has no qualms about letting them do it.  He’ll even go up to people and talk directly to them during the promo.  The man is fearless.  He’s having so much fun.  I just love Ciampa no matter what he does.  He’s every bit as good on the mic as he is in the ring.  I’m not sure I’ve seen this kind of heat on a performer since Michael Hayes and the Freebirds.

Love that Aleister came out to confront Ciampa but Gargano beat him to it.  I had a feeling Aleister would attack Johnny…and he did.  One Black Mass Kick and Gargano went down in a heap after repeatedly taking responsibility for why Ciampa got the belt.  The crowd chanted “you deserve it” too so they aren’t fans of Gargano right now either.  They even wanted Aleister to do it again.  Barbarians!  Really nice segment all around!

In fact, really nice show all around!  I enjoyed every bit of it.  “205 Live” could do this too.  They just need to introduce more story.  NXT is everything I like in a show and it very rarely lets me down.  This one sure didn’t.  See you guys next week for another look into the “Illustrious Future”!
