Why You Mad?

Let’s be real here.  NXT TakeOver will always be better than any show the main roster puts on.  It’s a foregone conclusion, really.  I can’t wait for this. This is shaping up to be the best one yet.  Of course, this is the “go home” to that card so let’s see how it shakes out.  I’m blogging it as I watch so I don’t know what’s coming as you read this.

Street Profits (Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins) vs. The Mighty (Shane Thorne & Nick Miller)

Street Profits are a blast!  They have personality for days and they can go.  The Mighty can absolutely go to.  Where they fall short is personality.  They have absolutely none.  They have Roderick Strong disease and this heel turn is likely designed to show us some.  So far, so bad, really.  They just come off as stereotypical heels.  This was pretty good.  Percy spoke of an increase in their physicality and he’s right.  They are.  Still, that doesn’t add up to personality.  Angelo took damage really well.  Very nice selling on his part.  Despite his size, he also moves really well in there.  Montez is a whole other matter.  He is lightning quick in there.  He’s also got the personality edge over Angelo.  Montez is an absolute star in every respect.  Love the dirty win from Ford.  He gave The Mighty what they gave him.  Good stuff and it prolongs the feud.

The best part of the match?  Montez ordering the cameraman to get his cup.  Dead!

Backstage segment – Undisputed Era (Adam Cole [Bay Bay], Kyle O’Reilly, Bobby Fish, & Roderick Strong)

Why is Roderick talking?  This is like it always is.  The other guys are great and Roderick is completely boring.

Kairi Sane vs. Aliyah (Shayna Bazsler on commentary)

Kairi is a machine, though I hate her gimmick.  It means nothing.  Aliyah looked decent in there too.  She was designed to take much abuse from Kairi so she could only do so much.  Shayna is just great at absolutely everything.  I love that Kairi became vicious at the end of the match in order to send a message to Shayna.  The story here was very well-told.  Shayna said earlier that Kairi has no “killer instinct”.  By the end of the match, Kairi had shown Shayna that she does.  This is how you tell stories, kids.

In-ring segment – Velveteen Dream & EC3

Ugh, this theme!  He deserves so much better. CFO$ really whiffed on this one.  As for Velveteen Dream’s mic work, he never whiffs there.  I love that he’s doing a Scott Hall impression in there – complete with fanny pack.  He also allows the crowd to have their way but he never loses control.  EC3 came out and made this even more fun.  Like Dream, he never runs out of material.  I will say that dream got a little repetitive with the “dream over” thing.  Still, nice confrontation all around.

An old-fashioned whodunit?  I like it.  Storytelling.  Real storytelling.

Tyler Bate (w/ Trent Seven) vs. Roderick Strong (w/ Kyle O’Reilly)

Regardless of anything said about the mic skills or lack thereof of both of these guys, they can go in the ring.  This was a fun match.  Roderick’s chops are just evil.  These exchanges between them were just insane.  Throughout, Mauro screamed his head off like he always does.  Ugh.  Very good match though!

This episode was a bit of a holding pattern but it did solidify a few things.  Don’t forget to join us here on Saturday evening beginning at 6pm for Dignified Discussions – NXT TakeOver – Brooklyn IV!  See you next week for another look into “The Illustrious Future” of NXT.
