The Sorta Good, And Mostly Bad

I’m really digging this season of May Young Classic. While not all of the women are the best, they all work so hard for the fans, and that’s just beautiful. This is a great thing named for a wonderful woman, and can only help these amazing women move forward in their careers.

Deonna Purrazzo defeated Priscilla Kelly

Deonna has a great look, really put together, right down to the great coat she wore to the ring, but then there was Priscilla who reminds me too much of a Paige wannabe. Just the vibe I got from her from the very start of her intro video. I just wasn’t overly impressed with her from the word go.

Deonna stepped things up and further impressed me in the ring from the first moments. Some of their work was strange with the crawling around the ring, but I’m watching this to see how different women work the ring, and that really was different. Her springboard into a dropkick was beautiful! The best move of the match, and made me want to see more of Deonna, much more!

I thought Priscilla was going to have a wardrobe malfunction, and then Renee said that she’ reminded her of Paige. Guess I’m not the only one who saw the obvious. I’m sure the fact she’s so young and has such a unique look is what reminds me of Paige.

Zeuxis vs Aerial Monroe

It might just be me, but it seemed as though Zeuxis’ mask wasn’t fitter her properly during her intro video. Aerial, on the other hand, seems to have everything down pat and oozes personality. Honestly, I think she stole all her husband’s personality and charisma, because Cedric Alexander has none, though he was glowing as she headed for the ring.

From the first moves, they both seemed to be a bit off their marks. The blows were nowhere near where they needed to be to look at all real, and the silence from the fans told me that they saw how off they were too. Hair pulling isn’t allowed in the ring, and Zeuxis pulling hair didn’t at all distract me from the rough ring work.

REALLY not impressed with Zeuxis in the ring. I expected so much more from someone talking about strong style. The match looked really rough with only a couple moves actually looking as they should, never mind good! Aerial hit a couple of small moves that looked solid, and the finisher off the top from Zeuxis looked great, but a couple of good moves do not make for a great match. I’m very disappointed by this match and hope that Zeuxis doesn’t go much further because she’s not very good, at all.

Kacy Catanzaro defeated Reina Gonzalez

Kacy is adorable! Being a huge Ninja Warrior fan (the original was better than what they’re producing now) and knowing that she was the first woman to finish the course she ran, really impresses me. Reina, on the other hand, isn’t someone I’d want to piss off. She’s strong, and a bit scary, even with the jeans/chaps look that really didn’t work for her. Kacy is literally half Reina’s size but had some unique moves to try to take Kacy down. The gymnastic move on the top rope, as if she was working the parallel bar, was beautiful!

Reina used her size against Kacy, while Kacy used creative moves and her heart to win it. The fans fell in love with Kacy in this match, and so did I. Reina showed serious heart herself after the match, and that was great to see. I cannot wait to see Kacy grow as she learns more about wrestling. Only one year into training where some of these other women have been in the industry for the majority of Kacy’s life. It’s shocking to see how quickly she’s learned what she has. She could have a HUGE future if she works hard and sticks to it.

Ashley Rayne vs. Mercedes Martinez

The worst part about this match is that one of these women had to lose. When I saw this pairing, I was instantly crushed. Anyone who has followed my writing from the start knows that I was not a Rayne fan early on, but that was character development in TNA, as well as very young and green. Rayne has grown into an amazing wrestler. She’s thirteen years in, which means I’ve written about her from very early on, and she went from being green and annoying to a polished wrestler with a child.

I wrote in the HIAC Afterglow about how Brie and Maryse are both mothers and how it changed their bodies and how they worked the ring. Rayne’s body is possibly better than before she got pregnant, and her ring work is so much better than before. An amazing young woman who didn’t take the negativity (mine included) to heart and gave everything she could to get to where she wanted to be. Fingers crossed that Rayne will get a WWE contract because I’d love to see what she could do within the company.

What can I say about Mercedes? She’s a ring general and has been a great wrestler since the WWE only cared about Divas. She’s not a pretty little cupcake, but is who she is, which I love, but she also doesn’t seem to move around the ring very quickly either. In fact, I wasn’t overly impressed with this match. I expected so much more from both of them, but this match fell flat, terribly, horribly flat! Honestly, because I know how great these two can be in the ring, I am really put out by this match. Maybe it’s wrong to give them a worse grade because I know what they are capable of, but I know that they can do so much more than this laggy mess they gave us. Ugh!

Final Touch

Well, this episode wasn’t very good. Kacy and Deonna impressed me, but beyond that, I am disappointed. I’m hoping the next episode is better because this one left me wanting to go watch old episodes of TNA Impact so I can see Rayne in the ring doing beautiful things with Kong, Kim, and the rest. So much talent in all those matches, yet not much greatness actually happened.
