Rey Mysterio‘s son, Dominik Gutiérrez, has decided to pursue the family business and become a pro wrestler. He’s 21-years-old and has made the big step of starting a three-month training session at Storm Wrestling Academy in Calgary, Alberta, Canada under the tutelage of former ECW, WCW, and WWE wrestler, Lance Storm.
Dominik’s interest in pro wrestling isn’t new, and his father has been helping him prepare for his career and possible opportunities. As Mysterio just signed a two-year contract with the WWE, there is always the possibility of Dominik training at the Performance Center. There is no indication that this was part of Mysterio’s contract, but there is always that option.
For those of you who do not remember, Dominik was on WWE TV a number of years ago, used as a pawn in a storyline between Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero. The storyline brought into question Dominik’s paternity, with the child being used on air to heighten the tension of the storyline.
QD – A lot of people were up in arms over Dominik’s appearances on WWE TV as a child. Personally, I thought it was handled very tastefully, and Dominik was surrounded by people who loved him and were all part of his extended family, if not biological. Honestly, I’m not at all surprised that Dominik is joining in the family business, I’m just shocked that he waited this long. Lance Storm is a wonderful person to teach Dominik the ins and out of working the ring, I’m very excited for all involved and hope that we see Dominik in a WWE ring at some point, when he’s ready.
