WWE is set to hold their first-ever all-female pay-per-view card on October 28th entitled WWE Evolution. On the card, it was initially announced that Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss would face WWE Hall Of Famer Trish Stratus in a one-on-one match. However, on last night’s episode of Monday Night Raw, those plans changed. It was announced that instead, two matches would be combining to form a Tag Team match.
Given Mickie James vs. Lita was already on deck for Evolution, it was announced Stratus and Lita would team up against Bliss and James in a Tag Team match at WWE Evolution instead. Recently, Trish was interviewed by Natalya for her latest Calgary Sun column where she was asked about getting to step into the ring with young and impressive talent such as Bliss. Here’s what she had to say:
“Proud. Honoured. Nervous. (But don’t tell Alexa Bliss that!). When we were competing in the so-called ‘Golden Era’, we never could have imagined we’d be where we are today an all women’s pay-per-view. It’s amazing, as back then we felt accomplished just getting a match on a pay-per-view event, and here we are with an entire event devoted to us!”
Sir Mitch Says: Even though this tag match should be fun and Trish has proven she can still go (ditto on Lita) I honestly wish Evolution didn’t feature matches with returning talents from the past! I’d much rather they put all the focus on the new generation of Women’s Wrestlers and just give the stars of the past a celebratory segment instead.
