The rumored main event for WWE Evolution has been Nikki Bella vs. Ronda Rousey for a long time, and it drew the ire of WWE’s audience even before it was made official. Many fans were not happy about The Bella Twins returning to WWE television to take a prime spot. However, WWE higher-ups firmly believe The Bellas do draw with the female audience, which is obviously really important in selling the Evolution event. But it looks like The Bella’s are not the draw WWE higher-ups seem to think they are.
According to multiple reports, ticket sales for the event haven’t improved after WWE announced Bella vs. Rousey. It’s becoming a problem because WWE officials don’t have any more aces up their sleeve with returning legends such as Trish Stratus and Lita.
To their credit, Ronda and Nikki have done their best to sell the match by going back and forth on Instagram, and with Ronda cutting a generally well-received promo that touched on the criticisms, Nikki and Brie have copped throughout their careers. Criticisms such as perpetuating negative female stereotypes of Kardashian style shallowness, attention seeking and self-absorption and of using their relationships with high profile male stars to further their careers (which drew accusations of “slut-shaming” from social media).
Sir Mitch Says: I’ve always said that Nikki and Brie Bella only draw the reality TV show audience and it’s been long proven that that audience simply doesn’t watch Pro Wrestling!
