Here, ye, hear, ye. The Royals of Wrestle Royalty are at it again – this time pontificating, elaborating on, and predicting the very first WWE all-women’s pay-per-view: “WWE Evolution”! We are very excited for this so see what we have to say…and predict along with us! Vote in the polls following each match!
Sasha Banks, Natalya, & Bayley vs. The Riott Squad (Ruby Riott, Liv Morgan, & Sarah Logan)
Baron Botch: The problem here is that they haven’t really built this very well…or they haven’t really built it at all. I have no reason to care about the outcome. We’ll get a great match out of it for sure but I don’t really care too much who wins. Sasha Banks is criminally underused and Ruby is such a total star. Natalya is a reliably wonderful worker too. Bayley has lost every bit of the magic from NXT that made her compelling. If you haven’t seen Liv on the YouTube show, UpUpDownDown, you’d likely enjoy it. She’s truly adorable. Sarah is…there. As I don’t really care too much about who wins, I then have to go with what I’d like to see coming out of the show. WWE doesn’t appear to be doing a blessed thing with Sasha, Natalya, or Bayley. Again, Ruby is a star; she just is. I’d love to see them continue to march forward with her. Her lot in life should not be to be stuck in a trio with Liv & Sarah. She’s a solo star just waiting for the right moment. That said…
THE WINNAH! – The Riott Squad
Queen KB: I hope this match gets the time it deserves, as these women (most of them) deserve it. They’re almost all strong competitors and will give their all in this match. I hate to say that Nattie, Sasha, and Bayley have all had their chance at the top and now it’s time for someone else, because that’s not how I feel, but I do think that it’s time to pull the trigger on Ruby and see what she can do going for the strap. She might be able to pull some solid matches out of Ronda, maybe? Actually, now, as I type it, maybe Ruby could be the person to take the strap off Ronda, or her serious push should come after Ronda drops the strap. Either way, I want to see Ruby get the three in this match.
Queen’s Predicted Winner – The Riott Squad
Sovereign Sam: This was a random, thrown together match at the last minute and it has felt that way. Ruby is a star in the waiting and random matches like this don’t do her any good in my opinion. Sasha and Bayley have not done much since their rivalry ended and they became friends again. Natalya is another one who just seems lost right now on Raw as well. I am hoping we get a shake-up of some sort with the rosters because I think some people could use a change of scenery. I don’t know who to pick in this match as there isn’t much heat to this rivalry, so I will just go with my gut.
A Sovereign Winner – The Riott Squad
Duke Dre: I was very disappointed when this match was announced. For starters, it’s clear it was thrown together at the last second and because it made me realize that the rumored women’s tag team titles won’t be competed over. This match feels like something we’ve been seeing on RAW for the last couple of months.
Winner – Sasha Banks, Natalya, & Bayley
Sir Mitch: My biggest criticism about how the card for this show has been booked is that arguably the most talented members of the main roster are stuck in the mid-card. This match is a great example of this. Sasha and Bayley killed it a few Takeovers ago and seeing them along with Natalya in a six-women tag facing off against a stable that few here at WR are fans of just makes me sad. The fact they are likely to go under leaves me almost in a state of depression!
Winners: The Riott Squad
Magnate Mat: This match seems a bit thrown together at the last minute but I believe the WWE is positioning the Riott Squad to be focal points of the women’s division. Most would say that Bayley and Sasha Banks have been criminally underused, but sometimes when no one is paying attention is when performers can do their best stuff and have some fun at the same time. This might be one of the better matches of the event because all 6 women are good to great in the ring and it has a nice contemporary feel to it
Winner – The Riott Squad
Jester Jason: Remember before her injury, the bad blood between Bayley and Banks? But then they were best of friends? I think the loss will either unite them as heels as they turn on Natalya or they turn on each other again.
Winners: The Riott Squad
Women’s Battle Royal (winner gets a championship opportunity) – Tamina Snuka, Billie Kay, Peyton Royce, Ember Moon, Alicia Fox, Nia Jax, Dana Brooke, Asuka, Mandy Rose, Sonya Deville, Carmella, Lana, Naomi, Torrie Wilson, Michelle McCool, Alundra Blayze, Molly Holly, Ivory, Kelly Kelly & Maria Kanellis
Baron Botch: This is the “we want you on the PPV but have no clue what to do with you so hey let’s throw you in the Battle Royal. I’d love to see Tamina and Nia Jax as the last two battling it out. A few us would also love to see them in a tag team together. Pipe dream, yeah, but it’d be a lot of fun. As for who wins, it should be Asuka but I doubt it will be. I’m not mad at who I think it will be though.
THE WINNAH! – Ember Moon
Queen KB: There are a number of top names who should have their own matches on this card, but have been shoved into this match instead. There are so many great women on the roster who could win this and Torrie Wilson isn’t one of them. Sorry, Torrie was a Diva and will always be a Diva, and while nostalgia is nice, too much nostalgia in this match will annoy the heck out of me. I’m so excited to see Ivory, and interested in seeing Molly Holly, but both were solid wrestlers who were born too early to have enjoyed the kind of careers both deserved to have.
Only 21 superstars have been announced for this match, which means that my pick to win this hasn’t even been announced to be in this match, but I’ve always gone out on a limb for Royal Rumble matches, and I’m going to do so here again. As usual, I pulled out my white board and wrote down every name I could possibly think of beyond those already listed for the match, and only one jumped out at me. She was on that ramp when this PPV was announced, but we haven’t seen her on the main roster otherwise, and that’s a travesty. It’s been too long since Sanity debuted on SD, yet we still haven’t seen Nikki Cross appear on Raw or SD. It’s time the crazy one get her push, so why not start here?
Queen’s Predicted Winner – Nikki Cross
Sovereign Sam: I have absolutely no idea who will win this battle royal. This feels like lazy booking to me because they couldn’t find matches for women who have put in work. Asuka won the first-ever women’s Royal Rumble and she is in this match. Nia Jax and Carmella were both women’s champion on their respective brands and they are in this match. I have no idea who decided to just throw the women in this match, but they could have come up with something better than this. I will just pick someone who I think will come out of nowhere and steal the victory.
A Sovereign Winner – Zelina Vega
Duke Dre: I’ve narrowed my picks down to the 3 ladies that I think make the most sense at the moment. Ember Moon, Asuka and my personal favorite Naomi. All 3 would provide fresh and intriguing match ups for the current champs (Ronda & Becky).
I predicted that Baszler would get called up to target Ronda so that eliminates a Ronda/Ember program so that leaves Asuka or Naomi.
Becky/Naomi would be interesting based off the fact that both ladies had somewhat of Kayfabe friendship earlier this spring/summer and it’s possibly a feud where Becky wouldn’t be seen as the babyface by many due to Naomi herself coming off as a wholesome babyface herself who gets nowhere near the opportunities that Charlotte gets nor does she have Charlotte’s championship credentials, in other aids Becky wouldn’t be able to paint herself as the underdog in this one. The matches themselves would be good in quality aswell.
Becky/Asuka on the other hand provides a babyface that is viewed by many to be on or near the same level as Charlotte but unlike Charlotte, Asuka would have a lot more fan support I’d believe. Obviously Becky would have to carry the entire the feud on the mic but between the ropes these two would provide us with some amazing matches that could steal the show on any given night.
After further thinking on this I believe Asuka will be Becky’s next feud.
Winner – Asuka
Sir Mitch: I get the idea behind this match, I truly do. They are trying to put the spotlight on as many Women on the main roster as possible as well as a few legends from the past. I just find it sad that Women like Asuka, Naomi and the returning Alundra Blaze aren’t being given more to do.
As far as picking a winner, I hope they go with Asuka as she needs to be completely rebuilt after losing her streak at Mania and being booked into that terrible program with Carmella!
Magnate Mat: Battle Royals tend to be messy and cop-outs when they want to get people work but don’t have a storyline for them. Why Asuka is in this is beyond me, but the main roster tends to diminish some bright lights when they come up from NXT. It honestly could be a good Battle Royal, but I highly doubt it, and the WWE will probably use it as a “cool down” match.
Winner – Asuka
Jester Jason: Moon has taken a backseat role since being called up to the main roster. I also don’t see WWE having an “older” star come back just to win.
Winner: Ember Moon
Trish Stratus & Lita vs. Alexa Bliss & Mickie James
Note: Alicia Fox may be replacing Alexa Bliss in this match but there’s been no concrete confirmation from WWE in this regard. We may not know definitively until match time. As such, many of our predictions feature the original match line-up as we know it.
Baron Botch: Here’s another one that I don’t care about. This is kind of a problem. I should be able to care about these matches and, so far, I don’t. There’s really nothing on the line here except for “pride” or whatever. They fought backstage this week on “Raw”. Got it. This past “Raw” needed Alexa bad. Her mic skills are all that making me even cursorily interested in this match. If she’s not there, I barely care at all. It’ll be fun seeing Trish & Lita and all of them (even if it’s Alicia) can go. It’s the inconsequential outcome that leaves me cold.
THE WINNAH! – Trish Stratus & Lita
Queen KB: I honestly don’t get this whole Mickie thing. Bliss has been trashing on Trish and Lita for being old, yet Mickie’s been around since they were still in their prime. Mickie looks like me trying to hang with Sam, trying to be as young as Sam, dressing like Sam, trying to be friends with Sam’s friends, it just doesn’t work. I don’t pal around with Sam because I’m in my 40s and she’s a kid! It’s not what you do, and Mickie looks foolish doing it!
All that being said, Bliss needs to go over here. Bliss needs to make the cover so that she gets the props for beating the legends.
Queen’s Predicted Winner – Alexa Bliss & Mickie James
Sovereign Sam: I was looking forward to this match when it was first put together, but in the weeks since I have found myself losing interest in it. It’s through no fault of the women involved because they have been trying their hardest to make this important, but I just don’t know. Bliss being injured may have something to do with it as they have been limited in what they can do, but I do hope this exceeds my expectations. Trish and Lita are two pioneers in this business and I think this will be their time to shine for at least one more night.
A Sovereign Winner – Trish Stratus & Lita
Duke Dre: I’m honestly not very excited about this one because 1. the outcome isn’t in any sort of doubt whatsoever 2. Because on paper this looks like a glorified squash match and 3. The build up has been really basic and uninspiring.
Winner – Trish Stratus & Lita
Sir Mitch: I’m not against the idea of having arguably the two biggest female stars in Pro Wrestling history Trish and Lita being a part of this show. I just wish it wasn’t at the expense of one of the best talents of this generation (male or female) in Alexa Bliss as well as someone I consider to be in the same league as Trish and Lita (Mickie James) who has been reduced to playing a mean girl sidekick upon her return to WWE.
As far as picking the winners go…as if they would book Trish and Lita to go under!
Winners: Trish Stratus & Lita
Magnate Mat: Alexa Bliss has clearly established herself as the big villain on RAW, taking shots at any and everyone. She doesn’t care if people like her or cheer her. Trish and Lita haven’t been active competitors in OVER A DECADE, and not matter who you are, that tends to have an effect. This might not be the clash that both sides are trying to sell it as, but still fun for all the attitude that is going to get thrown around.
Winner – Alexa Bliss & Mickie James
Jester Jason: I personally cannot wait to see Lita go off on in the ring with her high flying acrobatics and extreme move set! I was never a huge fan of Trish in the ring, but her in ring skills vs that of Alexa and Mickie will show here.
Winners: Trish Stratus & Lita
Mae Young Classic final: Toni Storm vs. lo Shirai
Queen KB: Maybe I’m in an Aussie mood today, but I have to back Toni Storm. When I first saw her I thought she was another simple blonde, but she is so much more than that. She looks like a roller derby chick who couldn’t get enough physical contact so she moved into a pro wrestling. Shirai has never really impressed me personally. She’s a great wrestler, but personally I see more of an upside to Storm, so I’m going with her to win this year.
Queen’s Predicted Winner – Toni Storm
Sovereign Sam: This would be my darkhorse for match of the night and it features two women that have been the best outside of WWE for some time. Toni Storm is someone who has been over like rover in the UK scene and Shirai has done the same over in Japan. This should be a stellar encounter and I hope they get all the time they need to tell a great story. This is about as big of a coin flip that I could think of, so I just have to go with my gut.
A Sovereign Winner – lo Shirai
Duke Dre: I’m looking forward to this one quite a bit. If given time this could be match of the night from a in ring standpoint. I feel like Toni is going to be a top priority for WWE going forward so I’m expecting her to get the win.
Winner – Toni Storm
Sir Mitch: Now we get to the good stuff! If you are familiar with the all-female Japanese promotion Stardom, you know that these two have torn houses down in Tokyo with their incredible matches both with each other and with others. Now they are set to do it in the U.S. Get ready for this one guys, because you are in for a treat I can assure you.
Now as far as my pick goes, I can’t call myself Australian if I don’t pick Toni Storm (even though she was born in England and grow up in both Australia and New Zealand)
Winners: Toni Storm
Magnate Mat: This years MYC managed to outdo last years, thanks in big part to the two participants in this match. Io Shirai was easily the number one womens wrestler in Japan and Toni Storm is poised to go Super Nova. Both are accomplished performers who wrestle an extremely physical style, but Shirais flying ability will probably get the better of the more grounded Storm.
Winner – lo Shirai
NXT:UK Women’s Title: Rhea Ripley vs. TBD
Queen KB: I don’t like that we have no clue who she is facing this close to the PPV, but that’s the WWE for you. Wait, no, this is Trip, so I have no clue why we don’t have a challenger for this strap. Either way, I’m a fan of Ripley and hope she retains until a solid feud/storyline can be set up and she can defend the Championship in a way that makes sense.
Queen’s Predicted Winner – Rhea Ripley
Sovereign Sam: Logic would dictate that there is no way they would have Ripley lose the title this early into NXT UK’s run as she is the inaugural champion. I expect a good match between these two, but it feels like it will have a predictable outcome. WWE could shock us and have a title change, but I do not think that will be the case. It will be interesting to see how this match is booked even though the outcome may be easy to figure out.
A Sovereign Winner and STILL NXT UK WOMEN’S CHAMPION– Rhea Ripley
Jester Jason: Toni Storm shows up and challenges after winning the Mae Young Classic. She then takes the title off of Ripley.
Winner and NEW NXT UK WOMEN’S CHAMPION: Toni Storm
NXT Women’s Title: Kairi Sane vs. Shayna Baszler
Baron Botch: Oh, this’ll be fun! Shayna is a complete and utter beast in there. Kairi is nothing to sniff at either. I’ve enjoyed this feud as it’s brought out a whole different side of Kairi. She’s not just boring pirate girl anymore. I hate to be “that guy” but there’s really nothing left for Shayna to do in NXT anymore. It’s time for her to go up to the main stage and kill it there too. As such…
THE WINNAH AND STILL! – Kairi Sane
Queen KB: I’ll fully admit that I’m biased in this match. I’ve just never felt Sane. There are those people that we just don’t click with and Sane is one for me. Maybe that will change when she’s called up to the main roster, but as of right now I’m not feeling her. That being said, I hope she retains the NXT Women’s Championship because I want Baszler up on the main roster. (Not the bias you were expecting when I started anti-Sane, was it?) I think Baszler is more than ready to be called up to the main roster and not winning the NXT Women’s Championship back is a huge part of that.
Queen’s Predicted Winner – Kairi Sane
Sovereign Sam: This would be my other pick to be match of the night for Evolution. Their match at Takeover Brooklyn 4 was fantastic and I expect more of the same here. Sane is a tremendous worker and is one of the top babyfaces in NXT right now. Baszler is one of the best heels right now and I cannot wait until she makes her main roster debut. I think she is someone primed and ready for main and she has no reason to stick around NXT any longer.
A Sovereign Winner and STILL – Kairi Sane
Duke Dre: This one should provide us with another solid outing. Seeing how Kairi hasn’t held the title for too long I think she’ll still be champ by the end of this match but by DQ. I think Baszler makes it her personal mission to hurt Shayna which I think leads to a DQ (perhaps she beats her down with a chair).
I think the match ends this way to keep both ladies looking strong going forward. Specifically because I think Baszler gets called up to RAW shortly afterward to kick off a feud with Ronda.
Winner – Kairi Sane via DQ
Sir Mitch: These two rocked the house in their first match and I fully expect them to do the same again. I haven’t been watching enough NXT the last month to really get a feel of how this match will end, but I believe Baszler is more than main roster ready. I also think WWE’s higher-up’s think so too!
Sane will go over and Shayna will probably debut on Raw or Smackdown within the month.
Winner and STILL: Kairi Sane
Magnate Mat: One of the better feuds this year has been Baszler vs Sane, Sanes massive crowd appeal vs Baszler’s no nonsense, no frills attitude has been a near perfect butting of heads. Shayna Baszler represents the next step in women’s wrestling, no bright colors, no smiling, just going out there and beating your opponent silly, or putting them to sleep. Sane has the pirate theme going, doesn’t quit, and also has the best spear in the WWE by a long shot. Sane wins, but only because I think Baszler is headed to the main roster sooner rather than later.
Winner – Kairi Sane
Jester Jason: Tough one for me as well. Both have proven themselves in NXT and are on an entire different level from the rest of the female talent. I have long backed Baszler. Going off this, I saying Baszler wins this one and takes the Title with her to the main roster.
Winner and NEW NXT CHAMPION: Shayna Baszler
Smackdown Women’s Title match (Last Woman Standing): Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair
Baron Botch: Yeah, this is the one we all really care about. It’s also clearly the one that WWE cares the most about too as it’s the one with the most build. The build has been novel too! They started with trying to get us to boo Becky. When we wouldn’t, they just made her hate Charlotte. She went all “heel” on Edge last week but we still love her even after that. We love Becky and that’s it. I don’t hate on Charlotte but I will always love Becky more. Becky is pulling off the arrogance thing incredibly well and Charlotte did the hurt thing really well this week too. Better yet, both of these ladies can go for days in the ring. I cannot wait for this match. I want Becky to continue to keep the belt so…
THE WINNAH AND STILL! – Becky Lynch
Queen KB: This is the best feud/storyline in the WWE today. I feel like I’ve said all I can say about the greatness of these two feuding, so I’m not going full-out with it here. We all see it, we all know how great both of these women have been in this feud, and how well they’ve been booked (most of the time – not having them both live on SD was a mistake). This match was the natural progression of things, and I know they’re going to absolutely kill it for the fans, and most likely steal the show out from under every other superstar on the card. That being said, I don’t think moving the strap to Charlotte is the right way to go at this point. Becky has more than proven that she’s a top superstar in the company.
Queen’s Predicted Winner – Becky Lynch
Sovereign Sam: There are only two matches on the Evolution card that I think will be easy match of the night contenders and this is one of them. This has been one of the best, if not the best, rivalry on the main roster and has elevated Becky Lynch to another level. She is showing why many of us already knew, and that she is one of the best in WWE. With the Last Woman Standing stipulation, I expect this match to get plenty of time and be the best of their matches on the main roster.
A Sovereign Winner and STILL – Becky Lynch
Duke Dre: Unlike Ronda/Nikki, I’m fully expecting this one to be a instant classic. We know what both ladies are capable of so it’s a given this will be fantastic.
Despite the criticism of WWE turning Becky heel and not Charlotte, I’m 100% on board with WWE’s decision to do so. She’s been amazing in this role and has channeled her inner Roddy Piper/CM Punk to the fullest. Charlotte has been solid herself throughout all of this as well in the super naive babyface role.
I’ve really gone back and forth on my pick here so and it wasn’t until I finished this sentence that I decided to go with Becky on this one. I don’t feel confident in my pick though.
Winner – Becky Lynch
Sir Mitch: I think the vast majority of fans agree that this match should be the main event! These two have put on the most entertaining program on all of WWE’s TV shows right now and it has taken them both to the next level.
The problem still remains of WWE’s creative and higher-ups wanting people to boo Becky and cheer Charlotte. Something that will simply put never happen! Becky has always been arguably the most over women in WWE for years now and Charlotte continues to come off as the entitled second generation star who’s gotten all the breaks. The more they try to get heat for Becky the more sympathy she gets.
I have no doubt WWE’s higher-up’s will put the title back on Charlotte than get angry at the fans for not acting the way they want them too. I can already see the ridiculous tweets from Road Dogg now!
Winner and NEW WWE SMACKDOWN WOMEN’S CHAMPION: Charlotte Flair
Magnate Mat: The saying is “you fight the hardest when you fight your friends”. Becky is the victim here, and her grievances are as valid as she says. The entitled former champion is going to get her arm wrenched off, and maybe learn some humility. This has been the WWEs most unintentionally galvanizing storyline for Becky Lynch and she intends to retain HER title.
Winner – Becky Lynch
Jester Jason: I am going with Lynch on this one. I understand WWE wants to get her over as a major heel, but it’s just going to work. They need to realize this and just turn Flair dirty again. Plus, there is news breaking this week that isn’t too good for Flair that may hinder any pushes in the near future.
Winner: Becky Lynch
Raw Women’s Title match: Ronda Rousey vs. Nikki Bella
Baron Botch: Who’da thunk it? I actually care about this match! I know, I know but bear with me on this. Ronda has awakened and turned in incredible promo work lately. No, really. She fired HEAVY shots at Nikki last week and it was beautiful. The word is that she’s now getting heavily involved with writing her promos and if that’s the case, it then makes sense why she’s so much better. Nikki is a solid heel for reasons both in and out of the ring. As a match, I fear this one. This won’t be a wrestling clinic in any way. In fact, it could be a complete disaster. Ronda has yet to show me a thing in the ring and Nikki isn’t good enough to carry Ronda when she’s at her rushing worst. As for who wins, I’m going out on a limb and I’ll say that Nikki will find a way. This might just be the match where Vince makes the WRC implode on itself. I always love that.
THE WINNAH AND NEW! – Nikki Bella
Queen KB: There is no question that this match will be a total mess, and Brie will do everything in her power to help her sister win the strap from Ronda, but it won’t happen. There is no reason to strap Nikki at this point, or any point in the future. Not saying Ronda is a great Raw Women’s Champion, but she’s working hard to become a great in-ring performer, and I will give her props for that. There is no reason to pull the strap off Ronda at this point, especially not to put it on a Diva! That would be a huge step back especially at Evolution, which is all about moving forward.
Queen’s Predicted Winner – Ronda Rousey
Sovereign Sam: This is a match that I was not looking forward to when the rumors of it started coming out, but I must say that I am curious as to what they will do with it. I am not expecting much as far as in-ring work is concerned, but I feel like there is a chance to tell a good story here. There is one result for sure that would burn down the IWC and I kind of do hope it happens, but I am going with my head for this pick.
A Sovereign Winner and STILL – Ronda Rousey
Duke Dre: This one has gotten personal quick. Ronda bringing up the fact that Cena didn’t want to commit to Nikki and then the following week Nikki bringing up the fact that Ronda went into hiding after losing to Holm & Nunez in her last two UFC fights. It’s been really entertaining to watch in all honestly.
Having said all that I’m not expecting anything resembling a good wrestling match here. I’m expecting an over booked affair between these two ladies to mask both Ronda & Nikki’s weaknesses as best as possible.
I’m almost positive Ronda retains even if Nikki has Brie in her corner so I’m going with Ronda. But my big prediction for this one is what happens afterwards. I think Shayna Baszler makes an appearances afterwards and destroys Ronda and makes her official main roster debut.
Winner – Ronda Rousey
Sir Mitch: There is no other way to say this…this match will be a disaster! Neither one of these women can put on a decent match without being in the ring with more experienced or more talented people than them.
It’s mind-boggling how why they would put Nikki Bella in the main event for this show considering she is actually one of the reasons why the Women’s Evolution had to happen! Not to mention the fact that the idea of putting her in the main event will draw more female fans is just plain untrue and 99% of her fanbase are the reality show crowd and very few of those people have seen a Pro Wrestling match in their life!
However, as bonkers as Vince and company are to put Nikki in the main event, I don’t believe they are bonkers enough to have her go over. Even they will admit (through gritted teeth) that they need to move women’s wrestling forward with real athletes like Ronda and not go backwards with Kim Kardashian wannabes like Nikki Bella!
Winner: Ronda Rousey
Magnate Mat: One of RAWs more clunkier storylines has resulted in some decent to good promos and plenty of social media smack talk. I am of the opinion that the Bellas are here to close a chapter, and hopefully not be around that much anymore. Performers like Ronda, and her friend in NXT, Shayna Baszler represent the next step, the future, and its time that era began, and for that to happen, the Bellas need to be sent on their way and Ronda is the women to do it.
Winner – Ronda Rousey
Jester Jason: I am going with Rousey winning this match. There is no possible way the WWE can sell Nikki going over Ronda with the extreme class and training differences. The only way Nikki wins will be by outside interference, which may come in the form of Shayna Baszler.
Winner: Ronda Rousey
