Tetsuya Naito is a guy who has made waves and headlines all over the pro wrestling world at this point. His matches against notable opponents have received huge praise, and it certainly seems like he’s on WWE’s radar. Naito is set to face Chris Jericho at Wrestle Kingdom 13 in January, but it seems he had to turn down an important offer.
According to the famed Japenese news outlet Tokyo Sports, Naito was offered a deal by WWE in June, but he turned it down cold!
Regarding his reasons for not taking the deal, Naito said:
“I didn’t even give it thought. This New Japan ring is already the world’s number one stage. The fans know this. That’s why I think we should focus on our home crowd before looking international.”
Sir Mitch Says: Shinske Nakamura may be the exception to the rule, but generally, it would be hard to convince top NJPW stars to jump ship to WWE! The overall products of NJPW and WWE could not be more different and the overall philosophy of Pro Wrestling in Japan known as “Puroresu” is literally the exact opposite of Vince McMahon’s philosophy of Pro Wrestling dubbed “Sports Entertainment.”
Not to mention the fact that going from the Main Event scene of NJPW to the Main Event scene of NXT or below the Main Event scene on WWE’s main roster would include a substantial pay cut!
