I Like Shiny New Toys…They’re Really Fun To Break

Heavy Machinery (Otis Dozovic & Tucker Knight) vs. Wesley Blake & Steve Cutler (w/Jaxson Ryker)

This was fun.  I like the old school “go after the arm” attack that the Forgotten Sons launched on Otis’ arm.  Tucker does a mean hot tag too.  Otis is a lot of fun too.  I’m not yet sold in any way on the Forgotten Sons but they were decent here.  I need to see more from them to judge.

Cinéma de I Just Wanna Get Inside So Leave Me Alone – Candice LeRae

Fun hearing Jeremy Borash’s voice as a reporter.  She did better here than she did last week.  The story she’s involved in is fun so let’s see where it goes.

Backstage segment – Shayna Baszler & William Regal

Shayna is a fantastic worker in every sense.  She’s great in the ring and great on the mic.  She’s also the very first two-time NXT Woman’s Champion.  I want her on the main roster but I can deal with the historical nature of this too.

Dakota Kai vs. Taynara Conti

Dakota’s kicks tho!  This was fun.  Taynara is, of course, no slouch either.  I do wonder what they’re going to do with Dakota going forward.

Backstage segment – Mia Yim & Bianca Belair

Bianca owned this segment completely and totally.  Mia came up short here and I just didn’t believe her.  Really, the writing on this made little sense.  Out of nowhere, Bianca has a problem with Mia.  Why?  Bianca made it fun though.

Backstage segment – Matt Riddle, Keith Lee, & Kassius Ohno

This was quick but Kassius isn’t playing.  He doesn’t like shiny new toys.  It’s been a minute since we’ve seen Keith too…oddly.

Cinéma de Gargano

His character is just slightly twisted from what it was.  It’s not a full-on heel turn like we’re used to.  He’s just slightly different…and I like it.  He’s “in a dark place” and his match with Aleister is going to be tremendous amounts of fun.

Velveteen Dream vs. Lars Sullivan

I know I’ve said this before but Velveteen Dream’s theme song is truly wack.  I know what CFO$ were trying to do but they missed by a nautical mile.  Lars’, while having a bit less personality, is far better.  Okay, the match.

Lars is merciless so that’s always fun and we haven’t really seen Velveteen Dream in a match with someone as merciless before.  It required him to sell and he did that like a champ.  We don’t see many nerve pinches anymore.  I only see that on the indies from time to time so it was nice to see it here again.  It’s a great rest hold and really allows the worker to show the anguish on his face far better than your standard issue headlock.

Velveteen Dream also has some serious strength as he managed to hoist Lars up on his shoulders.  Of course, he couldn’t land the move the first time because of the booking but he did it the second time.  I love that Ciampa slightly interfered in the match too – keeping that story going.  Ciampa’s attack at the end was great too as was Velveteen Dream’s retaliation.  Their match at WarGames is going to be a blast.

Can I also say how much I like Lars’ finisher?  It looks devastating and the name, “Freak Accident”, is just perfect.

That WarGames card is shaping up to be amazing…just like all the others.  They always manage to beat the main roster and this will be no exception.  We’ll be here to cover it with both predictions as well as our Dignified Discussion.  There’s still more build to go, though, so we’ll see you next week right here for another look into “The Illustrious Future”.
