AXS TV and New Japan Pro Wrestling Expanding U.S. Footprint

Spend The New Year with New Japan Pro Wrestling

AXS TV looks to start 2019 hitting the ground running. Solidifying the present partnership with New Japan Pro Wrestling, as its exclusive U.S. television partner by offering same day coverage NJPW’s marquee event, Wrestle Kingdom 13 on Jan. 4.

Wrestle Kingdom 13 is easily the biggest wrestling show of the year, aside from WrestleMania, and watching it live at 3am EST could be a challenge for many, so AXS TV is offering a 2 hour presentation at 8pm EST on Jan. 4. AXS TV is also making changes on their commentary team, as Jim Ross and Josh Barnett will be moving on, and current NJPW World commentators Kevin Kelley and Don Callis will take the microphone for AXS TV going forward.

Wrestle Kingdom this year will feature some of the premiere matchups in wrestling. IWGP Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho will take on the leader of Los Ingobernables de Japon, Tetsuya Naito. The main event, and probably what is sure to be one of the best matches of the year, IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega will take on the winner of this years G1 Climax Tournament and former IWGP champ, and ACE of the Universe, Hiroshi Tanahashi.

AXS will also be airing events following Wrestle Kingdom in February. Both New Year Dash and the New Beginning events will be broadcast. New Year Dash is typically held the day or two days after Wrestle Kingdom and is usually a more fun and light hearted event following Wrestle Kingdom. Wrestle Kingdom will be fully shown over 3 weeks in January on NJPWs normal Friday night time slot.

AXS, along with the current relationship with New Japan, is also adding the Women Of Wrestling promotion, owned by L.A Lakers owner Jeannie Buss, to their Friday night lineup. WOW is a dynamic and energetic promotion, featuring some of the most entertaining women in a wrestling ring.
