CM Punk Expresses Interest in All Elite Wrestling

In a recent interview with CM Punk about his future in the world of MMA, the subject of a possible return to Pro Wrestling, of course, came up. And while he made it very clear he would never return to WWE, he did say he would listen if the people behind the rumored All-Elite Wrestling promotion made him an offer:

“I would listen to them because just like Dave [Sholler], I like the Young Bucks. I text with Matt on and off. But business is business. I know Cody was out there in the media saying that an offer was made [for the All In event Sept. 1]. An offer was not made. Calling me up or texting me saying, ‘Hey, if you want to come to the show and do something, we would love that’ is not an offer. That’s not an offer.”

There are other things. There are a couple more loose ends that I’m still trying to tie up to fully absolve me from the world of pro wrestling. I feel like I’ve still been attached to it since the day that I left it, and that’s mostly because of fugazi lawyers and such. But we’re wrapping all that up, and that’ll come to an end. And once I’m truly free, we can explore the world and just float and hang out. And I can walk my dog and drink coffee and do commentary for Dave Sholler and continue to train at Roufusport. And do all kinds of stuff. I’ve earned it, I’ve paid my dues.”

If Punk makes a deal with All-Elite Wrestling, then this could be a gamechanger for the wrestling business. At this point, the talk about AEW is just an idea but if they are able to show a major TV network that they have a lot to bring to the table (i.e. star power with someone like CM Punk) then WWE might be dealing with their first major wrestling competition since the death of WCW in 2001.

As noted a few days ago, AEW has filed various trademarks, and it has been confirmed that Jacksonville Jaguars co-owner Tony Khan is involved and likely funding the company. Punk seems like someone who would be a good fit for them.

Sir Mitch Says: Talk about hot shotting a new promotion if you could sign someone like CM Punk who while has his detractors, is still a name that can draw crowds. It still seems pretty unlikely though all things considered!
