Hey, kids. It’s the Botching One with another look into ‘The Illustrious Future” of NXT. We know it’s illustrious because the main roster will be getting a few of my favorites. They’re getting EC3, Nikki Cross, Heavy Machinery, Lars Sullivan, & Lacey Evans. The only one I’m curious about is Lacey. She really hasn’t done much at all in NXT so we’ll have to see if she can hang. I’m honestly not sure. The others should be no problem. Let’s get to this episode, shall we?
Io Shirai & Dakota Kai vs. Jessamyn Duke & Marina Shafir
What is the deal with Io’s theme? It’s completely indistinct. I mean…it’s okay but… Oh well. CFO$ can’t win ’em all. Dakota’s is far more fun…just like she is. As for Shafir & Duke, they came out to Baszler’s theme – a theme I dearly love.
I never realized how tall Jessamyn is. She absolutely towered over Kai. This is the very first time that Duke & Shafir have been in a WWE ring. To that end, they did pretty well here. They were both a bit awkward in there at times but they were absolutely in the ring with the right women to make it all look good. Kai & Shirai came away with the victory as they should have. Still, Duke & Shafir did well here for their very first time.
Backstage segment – Matt Riddle
Do promos get weaker? Ugh. He was coherent so I’ll give credit for that. Moving on…
Aaron Mackey (AC Mack) vs. Dominik Dijakovic
AC Mack is often seen in WWA4 – Mr. Hughes promotion. Hughes trained him and he really is far better than it’s possible to see here. He was brought in to job and he did it quite well. He sold every bit of that offense quite well and even the fear of having to deal with Dijakovic. As for Dijakovic, he is little more at this point than big angry dude. I’ll need to see more to care. That’s perfectly natural too. One match won’t get that job done.
Heavy Machinery (Otis Dozovic & Tucker Knight) vs. Danny DeCarta & Dwight Howell (?)
I’m so excited to see Heavy Machinery on the main roster. If Vince lets it happen, they could be a lot of fun. Dozovic has personality for years and Tucker works well with him. This was your typical jobber match. The only thing that made it a little different was the Undisputed Era coming out to watch. The job guys weren’t really introduced but I did catch the first guy’s name – even if I’m not sure I got the spelling right. The second guy’s name is a bit of a guess given how quickly it was said. If you know their names, please put it in the comments. I’m sure they both go by other names on the Indies but I don’t recognize either one.
Aleister Black vs. Johnny Gargano
Few entrances are better than Aleister’s. Wow. They didn’t even make it into the cage as Gargano was waiting for Black before he could get in. The bell hadn’t even rung and they were ringing each other’s bells. These two quite simply put on a clinic. Gargano’s nasty power bomb on Black from the top rope looked just sickening. There were more than a few sickening moves executed here. Even better was the storytelling! Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano are a thing again!…maybe. It’s hard to know where this is going…and I love that.
What a way to end an episode of “NXT”!! I have nothing else to say but see you next week for another look into “The Illustrious Future”!
