Hey, kids, it’s the Botching one with another look into “The Illustrious Future”. Much of this show was catching up those who don’t watch the show regularly so that they won’t be lost when they watch “TakeOver”. I’ll cover the original parts of the show. Let’s get it in!
In-ring segment – Velveteen Dream, Adam Cole (Bay Bay) & Bobby Fish
He was a bit more determined this time out. I liked it! He turned it on a little more without losing the essence of his character. Adam Cole can hang just fine and he nailed. Bobby isn’t bad at all but he’s out of his league. He gave a very by-the-book heel promo and I just didn’t feel it, honestly. Velveteen quickly ether’d him, Adam & Bobby went to attack him and Dream got away. Decent stuff…but only decent.
Danny Burch & Oney Lorcan vs. Fabian Aichner & Marcel Barthel
This wasn’t bad at all. They’re all beasts in the ring. This was particularly hard-hitting. Lorcan is just a bruiser and he really brought it here. Aichner did what might be the highest plancha I have EVER seen. The match could have gone on longer and I wouldn’t have minded it.
Io Shirai & Kairi Sane vs. Amber Nova & Tenaya Brooks
A relatively quick jobber match. Of course, Shirai & Sane are amazing and they always have been. Nova and Brooks did their jobs admirably.
Cinéma de Outside – Io Shirai & Kairi Sane, Jessamyn Duke & Marina Shafir
Io and Kairi were cute. Then, Jessamyn & Marina showed up. Stiff as a board…every word they said. It was like bad acting by high schoolers who are being forced to take part in the play for extra credit. Dreadful.
Velveteen Dream vs. Bobby Fish
These two are great in the ring. The age difference between them is really striking (Bobby’s got 15 years on Dream) and this was quite competitive. I think this may be the first Dream match (gosh, that looks funny) where we’ve seen someone take a limb, in this case his leg, and work on it. It allowed Dream to show his selling ability…and it’s considerable. He never forgot that leg no matter what he did. Love that. So many forget and Dream didn’t. Even after the match, he continued to sell it. He sold Fish’s kneebar like a champ too. You’d have thought he was dying. The story he told throughout was just great. Fish was great here too throughout. Really good match.
Ricochet, Johnny Gargano, Tommaso Ciampa, & Aleister Black
Ricochet has been slowly and steadily getting better on the mic so this was a bit of a risk. Though Ricochet did fairly well here, Johnny is worlds better. What a great ending segment. The crowd lit up with “DIY” chants. Candice came out at totally the right time. What she didn’t do was act well. She never does. She’s a great in-ring worker for sure but her mic work and acting chops are severely lacking. They keep putting her in these positions that force her to act and she never delivers. It gets by on story only and because it’s so good, we let Candice slide. I’ll do that here too…somewhat.
