Cody was recently a guest on Jim Ross’s podcast where both discussed All Elite Wrestling’s current and future roster. Naturally, the discussion went towards what percentage of the roster would be made up of former WWE stars.
As it turns out, Cody claims that percentage would be quite low:
I’ve jokingly said it’s currently at about 5% — Chris Jericho, Jim Ross, Me. A few others, maybe. It’s not the same. Having that equity with WWE is wonderful but you’ve got to be able to cut it and meet the standards that people have for their actual bell-to-bell contest. That number might increase. There is the opportunity to exist for the boys and girls to make more money, here or there. Just to have options. If they can play, they’re gonna play. “But right now, the recruitment is more about ‘freshmen.’ I want to build a new class of guys. I don’t them to feel like they were set up and that was it. I want them to feel like they were set up to win and succeed. Right now, it’s a lot of faces you’ve never seen and people you’ll be surprised when you do see them.”
Pre-Sale tickets for AEW’s second event Fight For The Fallen are currently on sale (and going fast) and the events general sale will begin Friday 19th of April at 9 AM Eastern U.S. time.
Sir Mitch Says: Ever since AEW was first announced; there has been never-ending speculation about who in WWE may jump ship. But it looks like Cody and co aren’t actually all that interested in WWE talent and are looking to create their own stars!
Which is really the smart move long term when you think about it.
