After eight years of working as a backstage agent for WWE, Dean Malenko has quit the company according to Sports Illustrated. It has been confirmed that Malenko has quit the company and it is unknown why he has quit at this time.
The report from SI implies the former WWE and WCW star would be a good fit behind the scenes for upstart promotion All Elite Wrestling, though there’s no indication if that’s even an option.
WWE has not released a statement on the matter, but they rarely comment on the status of employees … so it’s unlikely they’ll confirm his departure.
S.A.M.’s Spiel: This is certainly unexpected and I wonder what led Malenko to quit the company. There have been recent hires to the backstage staff and it seems like WWE is going through a transition period so maybe he felt like it was time for a change of scenery. AEW could be a good fit for him given his years of knowledge and he could help them immensely.
