AEW World Championship Match
Adam “Hangman” Page vs. Chris Jericho
Queen KB: I’ve been contemplating this one for days, and I’m still at a loss. I see both sides of this one. Obviously, Jericho is a huge name with so much going for him. He’s been in all the biggest wrestling companies and has held championships in NJPW, ECW, WCW, and WWE, just to name a few. He was so well respected in the industry that McMahon made him the first Undisputed Champion while working against Stone Cold Steve Austin and Rocky. Jericho is one of the biggest names in the industry and has worked longer than many wrestlers in the industry have been alive. He would be the PERFECT first AEW Champion, if he weren’t creeping up on fifty. Then there’s Hangman who wasn’t even in utero when Jericho debuted in the industry (yes, I did the math). Jericho debuted only weeks before Hangman was conceived, but the numbers don’t lie. There are so many reasons why they should go with Jericho as the very first AEW Champion, but I think they need to pull the put serious faith in Hangman and pull the trigger with him. He’s young and would be a great first AEW Champion, really putting it out there that AEW isn’t trying to be ECW/WCW/WWE by strapping Jericho who has been strapped all around the world. Of course, this match will be one to write home about, but to set themselves apart I truly think AEW needs to hand the ball to Hangman and let him run with it which we all know he can, and will.
Queen’s Predicted Winner – Hangman Page
Baron Botch: There’s no doubt that this will be a fun match. Hangman lit it up at “All In” and he’ll do the same here for sure. Jericho has no right to be as goops he is at his age. It’s bizarre in the best way. The winner seems easier to pick here. If you’re AEW, they’re just getting their feet under them, and they have to do some business here. Do they go with Hangman who, while far from unknown, isn’t known in any way to the casual wrestling fan, or do they go with someone who is known to the casual wrestling fan in order to get eyes on them in October when the TV show debuts. For me, the choice is rather obvious.
THE WINNAH and NEWWWW!!! – Chris Jericho
Duke Dre: Page seems to be the guy that AEW wants to make the face of the company, and it’s easy to see how. However, I’m not sure if he has enough momentum or name recognition behind him at the moment to crown him the first-ever AEW World Champion. The safe bet is Jericho – especially with AEW headed to TNT in just a couple of short months. From there I can see Page chasing Jericho which would allow Hangman to build momentum with fans going forward so when he finally does it win the big one, it will feel more special. So for that reason, I’m picking Jericho.
WINNER: CHRIS JERICHO
Sovereign S.A.M: There is one thing about this match that has irked me a bit since it became official. It is really clear and predictable that Page is going to beat Jericho because the Elite have spoken about how Page will be a cornerstone for AEW. You could be of two minds of that statement. On the one hand, it is nice they are giving Page a chance to shine and be more than the mid-card. On the other hand, it is troubling to me to see one of the Elite become the first world champion when they have other people who can fit that role just as well. If I were to be a bit blunt, it reeks a bit of Jeff Jarrett in TNA when he was champion for a lot of the early days. It felt like he started the company so he could be world champion again like he was in the last days of WCW. I feel like I may be in the minority saying that it is a mistake for Page to be in this spot, but I am willing to take that stance. Jericho is still able to go a bit, but he does tend to look his age in the ring. He isn’t at the level of bad the Undertaker is, but he has still lost a step or two.
The Winner and First-Ever AEW World Champion: Adam “Hangman” Page
Sir Mitch: I have to be honest…AEW has kind of booked themselves into a corner here. Adam Page has been a future World Champion in my eyes for years now, but AEW is a new company, and they need a big recognisable star as their first world World Champion to help draw the biggest audience possible for their debut on TNT. So as much as we all feel an older statesman like Jericho shouldn’t be the first Champion, I think it’s going to happen.
However, it won’t be a clean win. With a dirty finish, they can do an angle where a big star comes out after the match and say that AEW can’t declare their first Champion like that. That AEW is supposed to be different and challenge Jericho right then and there and take the Title.
Now, most would expect CM Punk to be the person to issue that challenge as rumours of Punk signing with AEW will probably NEVER go away. But Punk, as made it pretty clear that the day he returns to Pro Wrestling, is as likely as me taking a selfie wearing a Roman Reigns shirt. Duke Dre will probably pray to Jesus, Allah and Buddha in turn for Punk to actually show up at All Out after reading this. So I suspect it will actually be someone in-house.
I’m picking Kenny Omega!
Winner: Kenny Omega
Magnate Mat: Chris Jericho is everything he says he is…the GOAT, the best there is at what he does, the best performer of this generation…and it’s really tough to disagree that maybe, just maybe he SHOULD be the first AEW Champion. However, Adam Page is on the doorstep – after an amazing tenure in New Japan but no singles titles to show for it, Page has declared he will be the FIRST AEW Champion, and the case for him is good too. Young, hungry, talented…a wrestler any promotion would be more than happy to build around. It can really go either way
Winner: Chris Jericho…and Thank you
Pac vs. Kenny Omega
Queen KB: I’m sure anyone who has heard me talk about Omega thinks that I’m going with anyone but him to win this match. I will fully admit that I’m not a fan of Omega, and it’s one of those things that I cannot put my finger on. It’s like how I felt about Alberto Del Rio from his first vignette in the WWE. It’s the way I felt about Brock Lesnar partway through his first run, after he’d turned heel and went after Gowen. One of those gut feelings that I cannot quite grasp, but it’s there in the pit of my stomach. All that being said, Omega hasn’t really done anything outright that I can point my finger at. Then there’s PAC who was a whiny twit even though he was over like Rover and Cruiserweight Champion in the WWE. Finally, he got his way and was released from where he was being treated so terribly, and his bad attitude went right along with him. It appears to me that PAC’s head grew too much, he’s too big for his ring gear, and thinks the world should be on its knees for him. Now, I have a bad gut feeling about Omega, but PAC has proven over and over that he’s not the most upstanding guy in the industry. I know I should be looking at storylines and directions of this wrestler or that wrestler, but the AEW doesn’t have a lot of feuds or storylines yet, so I’m going with what I know and what my gut is telling me, and what it’s saying is that PAC needs to lose this one.
Queen’s Predicted Winner – Kenny Omega
Baron Botch: This one was interesting that in that this was supposed to feature Jon Moxley. Unfortunately, he’s dealing with MRSA, so he’s unable to work the show. Nice to get Pac here. While he do his usual Lauryn Hill impression or will he actually be there to work the match? We’ll see! If he is there, this’ll be a great match.
THE WINNAH and NEWWWW!!! – Chris Jericho
Duke Dre: I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed with the match up here. Nothing against PAC, but Omega/Moxley is the match on this card that had the most heat behind it. Unfortunately, that match will have to wait for another time due to Moxley’s untimely injury. Getting PAC as Moxley’s replacement as quickly as they did is a good plan B. This match will be great despite the lack of build and even with Jon is too injured to wrestle I do think he shows up to distract Kenny to help further build their inevitable clash.
Sovereign S.A.M: This is a match that is happening because of Jon Moxley’s unfortunate diagnosis of a staph infection. The potential is all there for this to be an amazing match an I really do wonder how they will book this match. Omega has been one of the best wrestlers in the world for some time now, and PAC is no slouch. This has more of a dream match feel to it than anything else on this card. This doesn’t have the heat that the other matches have due to the lateness of it, but that won’t take away from the ability to get reactions for this match. It does have a coin flip feel to it, so I just have to go with my gut here.
The Winner: Kenny Omega
Sir Mitch: To paraphrase Jon Moxley, it sucks that he had to pull out of this match last minute. Omega vs. Mox is, without a doubt, a dream match. It just goes to show that the G1 Climax is no joke! There is a reason why New Japan give their workers a few weeks off afterwards. But, the good thing is Mox will recover quickly, and we will get to see Omega vs. Moxley soon enough (probably on the debut episode of the TNT show), and Omega vs. PAC is far from a second prize.
It looks like now that PAC is no longer the Dragon Gate Champion (the reported reason why he was pulled from Double Or Nothing was the promotion didn’t want their top Champion going under anywhere) so we get to see the..uh son of unmarried parents (I’ve got to keep it clean for Botch guys) cause some havoc in AEW.
As Omega is arguably AEW’s biggest star and he has already lost one big singles match, I see him going over here.
Winner: Kenny Omega
Magnate Mat: Well, this was unexpected. Originally, this was supposed to be Jon Moxley vs Kenny Omega – and just this week we found out that Moxley is dealing with an MRSA infection in his previously repaired elbow. In comes the Bastard, the angriest Hobbit, PAC. Moxley vs Omega (when it happens will be special), this match might just be a bit better. Kenny Omega is at the top of his game, he’s rested, and probably in the best physical condition he’s ever been in, and PAC stays ready. Whoever wins this is most likely in line for an AEW Title shot in the very near future.
Winner – The Best Bout Machine – Kenny Omega
Best Friends (Chuck Taylor and Trent Beretta) vs. The Dark Order (Evil Uno and Stu Grayson)
Queen KB: I will fully admit that I know little about either team, but I’m not a fan of Trent. Personally, I see nothing special about him. On the other hand, I have to say that Evil Uno looks like a very interesting character. It’s almost as if he’s a cross between Harley Quinn and ICP. Hopefully, he’s more Quinn than ICP, but that’s just me. Because I don’t know enough of these guys yet I’m just going to pick The Dark Order and move on.
Queen’s Predicted Winner – The Dark Order
Baron Botch: The Best Friends are so much fun. It puzzles me completely how badly Trent was used while he was in WWE. He has “it”. Chuck is a lot of fun too. I’ve seen Evil before in Dragon Gate a bit too. This has been kinda fun to see this play out. I think it’s time for the Best Friends to get a leg up here.
THE WINNAH!!! – Best Friends
Duke Dre: Taylor & Beretta have really impressed so far in their early tag run with AEW and are the more, the more established of the two teams here. But it feels like it would be too early to have The Dark Order eat a pin and I also feel like the smart money would be The Dark Order vs The Young Bucks in the tag team final. I’m picking The Order to receive that first round bye.
WINNER: THE DARK ORDER
Sovereign S.A.M: I am more familiar with the Best Friends than I am with the Dark Order. I have seen the Dark Order in the previous AEW shows, and I have to say that they haven’t piqued my interest quite yet. The Best Friends, on the other hand, are a team I am a total fan of and believe they could be the early favourite to be the inaugural tag champs of AEW. This should be a good match, but if I were, to be honest, it may be the least exciting tag match on paper for me.
The Winners: Best Friends
Sir Mitch: >AEW is emphasising Tag Team Wrestling. Which is something I love most about the promotion as Tag Team Wrestling has become a real lost art. But I have to be honest…I’m not feeling either of these teams.
I don’t know why, but they just don’t do anything for me.
Gun to my head, Dark Order goes over as they are currently undefeated in AEW.
Winners: The Dark Order
Magnate Mat: Both teams have recently been introduced to the AEW audience, some might know Chuck Taylor and Trent from their tenure in NJPW while the Dark Order have largely worked in numerous independents. Both of these teams are playing with house money as tag team wrestling in AEW is going to be the focus, as the Bucks stated when AEW was announced. Expect a physical and unorthodox match, especially from Chuck Taylor and Stu Grayson.
Winner – The Best Friends
Lucha Brothers (Pentagón Jr. and Rey Fénix) (c) vs. The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson)
Queen KB: I’ve gotten over many of my issues with the Young Bucks as they have proven to be solid businessmen on top of really great in the ring. That being said, I’m not picking them to go over here. Being that the Young Bucks are a huge part of AEW they have to be very careful that they don’t turn into the Jeff Jarrett or Shane McMahon of the company, in that they always feel they should win. I’m sure some of you remember how bad Jarrett was during the first decade of TNA, and how he always had to win everything; that is a real concern, something Matt, Nick, Cody, and Brandi all have to be conscientious about moving forward. Being that the Bucks don’t hold the AAA World Tag Team Championship now, I don’t think they should win them here. I don’t think they should win them because of what I previously mentioned, and because they’re facing Pentagon Jr. and Rey Fenix! Hello, those two are bloody amazing! I’m quite excited for this match and cannot wait to see it, no matter how it pans out.
Queen’s Predicted Winner – Lucha Brothers
Baron Botch: There is no doubt that this match will blow the doors off the venue and melt the faces of all who watch it. This will be life-shortening. The Bucks will give it all they’ve got like they always do and the Fénix and Pentagón will fly around the ring as they’ll never do it again. I cannot WAIT for this match! The winner is obviously anyone who loves work as they’ll give us. Still, I must pick someone so…
THE WINNAH and NEWWWW!!! – Lucha Brothers
Duke Dre: On paper, this definitely appears to be the match that will steal the show. Having said all that, this feud has seemed incredibly one sided so far with the Bucks winning at Double Or Nothing & Fyter Fest so having the Lucha Bros go under here would make very little sense, plus The Bucks will be exclusive to AEW so what would be the point in having them walk around with the AAA tag titles? I’d be very shocked and somewhat annoyed of the Lucha Bros don’t pick up the win in this ladder match. The Luchas take this, why you ask? Because it’s a Lucha Thing!
WINNER: THE LUCHA BROS
Sovereign S.A.M: I am excited for this match, and it is the one I am looking forward to the most, but I do have one issue with it. We have seen this match, or a variation of it, so many times in 2019 that I may be getting a bit burned out by it. It seems like every AEW show has a version of Lucha Bros versus Young Bucks and you can only see the same match for so long. I know AEW fans won’t admit that, but I am far from the typical AEW fan. With all that in mind, this will probably be the match of the night and will probably feature the most “OMG” moments as well. The one thing I do like is that it has put more American eyes on AAA, so there is that bright spot throughout this whole rivalry. For me, it makes sense for one of these teams to win this match, and I will go with that team.
The Winners and STILL AAA Tag Team Champions – Lucha Bros
Sir Mitch: How much further can these two teams possibly push the envelope as far as work rate and high spots go?
What will Fenix’s involvement in the match look like after injuring his leg at an indie show last week?
Will the AAA Tag straps change hands again after they’ve been hot potato between these two teams?
I don’t know the answers to those questions, and I honestly just want to enjoy this match. I hope these guys don’t kill themselves though!
Winners: Who Knows?
Magnate Mat: Running it back, the Bucks and the Lucha Bros have been building the tag team feud of the year, trading wins and losses, and the AAA Tag Team Titles. Now it’s a ladder match, which really doesn’t favour either team as they have both been involved in numerous ladder matches in the past. The big question is how far are the Bucks willing to go to get back those tag titles, if I had to guess….not as far as The Lucha Bros. will to keep them.
Winner – AND STILL AAA Tag Team Champions – The Lucha Bros
Cody vs. Shawn Spears (with Tully Blanchard)
Queen KB: This is a really interesting one. I have no clue who I want to see win this one. I think Spears got the short end of the stick when he was called up to the main roster in the WWE and I like him so much that I really want to see him do well and beat Cody here. Then again it’s Cody, and I adore him, I also don’t want to see him go the way of Jeff Jarrett. I think because of that Jarrett thing I have to go with Tye, I mean Spears.
Queen’s Predicted Winner – Shawn Spears
Baron Botch: What an interesting match. I didn’t think Shawn would be able to pull off this heel thing as well as he has, but he’s really doing it. The recent attack on Cody was just perfect, and his Twitter persona is far more aggressive, which I like. This is the match that will put Shawn on the map and Cody doesn’t need the win here, so my prediction is…
THE WINNAH!!! – Shawn Spears
Duke Dre: I’ve gone back and forth on this match quite a bit. On one hand, you’d think Spears would need the win over Cody to really help establish him as a main event in the eyes of fans who still only see him as “The Perfect 10” gimmick he was while he was in the WWE. But I also get the feeling that this feud is just getting starting and if that’s the case, logically Cody should draw first blood. I also believe that’s the direction this match goes in. Cody goes over in a way that won’t make Spears look weak.
Sovereign S.A.M: I know what story they are trying to tell here, but man I just can’t buy it. Spears is the former Tye Dillinger and, despite what Cody has said, he was over in WWE. Obviously, he was underutilized and decided to try his luck somewhere else. This match does have potential to be something, but the build for it just hasn’t gotten me invested. I think the problem I have connecting with this is that we only have their BTE and other YouTube videos to get you invested and if you miss one, you kind of lose interest. I am sure that will change once they debut on TNT, but for now, it is something to take note of. One person should win this, and it really makes the most sense for that person to win.
The Winner: Shawn Spears
Sir Mitch: If you know people who say AEW don’t know how to tell stories (mostly hardcore E-drones), this is the kind of stuff to show them. The build-up to this has been spectacular, Just like the build-up to Cody vs. Dustin was. So I fully expect this match to be the story match of the night.
I am super curious to see who Cody’s mysterious “cornerman” will be. I know most believe it will be either Brandi, Dustin or DDP. But I expect it to be someone we least expect. Although, if my earlier prediction of the Women’s Battle Royale is correct, I could see Brandi coming out to hit a spear or two with that bionic shoulder.
I actually expect, Spears to go over here as one of the reasons AEW signed him was to show how badly WWE messed up with him (and possibly attract more under-utilised WWE signed workers to make the jump) but it won’t be a clean win!
Winner: Shawn Spears
Magnate Mat: What a difference a year makes. The former “Tye Dillinger” wasn’t doing much other than sitting in catering…upon release, Spears made some indie appearances, then an appearance at the Double Or Nothing battle royale, then he signed with AEW…..and then he wrapped a chair around Cody’s head. Spears has shown a side we’d never seen before, a cold, calculating villain who seems to want to destroy Cody. Cody, the ever in control, cool calm collected is showing cracks in the facade. Add Tully Blanchard into the mix, and this could be one of the better matches this year, much less of this show.
Winner – Shawn Spears
Cracker Barrel Clash: Darby Allin vs. Joey Janela vs. Jimmy Havoc
Queen KB: This is one of the silliest match names I’ve heard in a long time. Honestly, it makes me laugh even more than hearing Gene Snitsky say Taboo Tuesday. Anyway, you might think that I’m going with one of the young guys as I keep saying I want some of these older wrestlers put over the younger guys who are up and coming, but not this time. I really like Jimmy Havoc. Something about the man just works for me. It’s one of those things I cannot put my finger on, but it might be that he’s rocking that edgy side of things that I’ve been missing in my own life recently, so I’m going with him to win this one.
Queen’s Predicted Winner – Jimmy Havoc
Baron Botch: All of these matches are going to be fun, and this is no exception. They’ve all killed it elsewhere, and they’ll do whatever they have to do to steal the show. As for my pick, I’m a Joey Janela fan big time so…
THE WINNAH!!! – Joey Janela
Duke Dre: This should be a highly entertaining hardcore match. All three guys seem bent on doing whatever it takes to walk away with the win, and I absolutely love the simplicity of how this Cracker Barrel match came about. These guys hate each other over the fact that they lost a match, it doesn’t get any simpler and petty than that, and I love it. If I had to take a guess here and pick a winner, I’d have to do with Janela.
WINNER: JOEY JANELA
Sovereign S.A.M: This match right here will be something to watch, and I mean that in a certain type of way. All three men will put their bodies on the line and make you turn away. This may be the match I am most looking forward to because I have no idea what these men will try to do to one another. I could foresee a game of one-upmanship, and I salivate and worry at the thought of it. I fell in love with both Havoc and Janela when I started watching MLW as they were both features at the time. Darby is someone I have only seen because of his match with Cody and man does he take chances. This match will be fun, and I have no idea what they will try to do to get the wrestling world talking. The
Winner: Darby Allin
Sir Mitch: I don’t know what a Cracker Barrel Clash is (nor do I know why Americans keep crackers in barrels), but given the names in this match…, I’m guessing this will be the “blood and guts” match of the night? If that is to be the case…I hope Havoc says hi Vince to the hard camera while stapling something to Janela’s head. I know I know, AEW poking fun at WWE people discussing them makes some of you guys cringe, but I personally find it funny ok.
Besides, if you want to criticise me about something…maybe go with the fact I’m sick enough to find Havoc using a staple gun to mutilate people entertaining? But then again, I am a soulless beast apparently (at least according to Botch)
Anyway, I digress…Havoc is probably going over here.
Winner: Jimmy Havoc
Magnate Mat: Light a dumpster on fire, push it down a hill, and watch it hit a bigger dumpster on fire. That is what this match will be, and we will enjoy every single bit of it. There might also be some wrestling, but I don’t expect much. All three men are good to above average wrestlers when the situation calls for it, but I don’t think this calls for it. Enjoy it, but keep the stretchers handy.
Winner – not that anyone that survives this will be the “winner”….Joey Janela
21-woman Casino Battle Royale
Queen KB: I think this is one of the easiest on the card to predict, which means I’m going to be completely wrong, but I still have to go there. There are a lot of great female wrestlers signed to AEW, but the one in the most distinguished role is Brandi. She’s really worked on her skills from what I’ve heard, and I expect her to either be the first AEW Women’s Champion, or in that final match to be the first AEW Women’s Champion. It’s so obvious to me that Brandi will win this one, which means I’m going to be terribly wrong, but I’m sticking to my guns on this one.
Queen’s Predicted Winner – Brandi Rhodes
Baron Botch: The participants haven’t been fully announced, so there is so much room here for surprises. The winner will get into the inaugural match for the AEW Women’s Title on the October 2nd TNT premier of AEW’s television show (why does the show STILL not have a name? This is just weird…). Anyway, they could go in a few different directions here. They could go the “large, powerful woman destroys everyone” route, which would mean that either Awesome Kong or Nyla Rose takes this. They could go the “incredible worker overcomes the odds and wins” which for me would mean Britt Baker wins. I think the “powerful woman” thing is too obvious so I’m going with…
THE WINNAH!!! – Britt Baker
Duke Dre: I’m really excited for this Battle Royale. I hope AEW surprises us with some really solid surprises in this one. Only eleven participants have been announced so far and out of those eleven, Awesome Kong and Britt Baker seem like the most likely to go over here. But with ten spots still left open, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if the winner ended up coming from that field. After putting some more thought into this one that’s exactly what I think will happen. Tessa Blanchard is a free agent and her showing up here to pick up this victory setting up a match with Riho for the AEW Women’s Championship makes all the sense in the world.
WINNER: TESSA BLANCHARD
Sovereign S.A.M: With this match, I feel like there are only three women that really make any sense to win it. Allie, Britt Baker and Brandi Rhodes are the three that I think make the most sense. Allie became one of my favourites in Impact Wrestling because of her partnership with Rosemary, and I think the bunny has a lot to offer. Britt Baker has a tremendous upside and has improved greatly since she appeared at All In last year. Then we have Brandi Rhodes, and it totally feels like they are going the Stephanie McMahon route with her and it is hard not to see it. She plays the role, but she is nowhere near the slime that Stephanie has always been. There is also the fact that she is not very good in the ring at all and I still don’t like seeing her become Stephanie McMahon so early in AEW’s existence. Those are the three I think will win, and a case can be made for all of them.
The Winner: Brandi Rhodes
Sir Mitch: I’m really looking forward to this! Brandi Rhodes and Kenny Omega have put together an insanely talented Women’s roster that easily rivals WWE’s. I know that’s a BOLD statement, but I honestly believe it is true.
As AEW still hasn’t announced it’s full roster yet (obviously saving a few surprises for this show and their TNT debut) I expect arguably the biggest Women’s Wrestling star in the world not signed by WWE to draw the Joker card and win this thing.
Winner: Tessa Blanchard
Magnate Mat: Looks like AEWs unique take on the Battle Royale will be a stable of programming, but the women get their opportunity this time with the winner getting a title opportunity, when the AEW Womens’ Title is introduced. The contestants so far are Nyla Rose, Britt Baker, Allie, Brandi Rhodes, Teal Piper, Ivelisse, Jazz, Aerial Monroe aka Big Swole, Sadie Gibbs, and 12 opponents yet to be announced. I’m fairly sure Britt Baker wins this, despite a wide open field and will most likely be the FIRST AEW Womens’ Champion.
Winner – The Doctor Is IN….Dr. Britt Baker
Riho vs. Hikaru Shida
Queen KB: How to choose from two really great wrestlers? I honestly don’t know. I’ve watched a bit of work from each of them, and I don’t want to choose! As I am wont to do now and then, I’m flipping a coin…heads! So I’m going with Riho for the win. Either way, I think we are in for quite the fantastic match.
Queen’s Predicted Winner – Riho
Baron Botch: I’m going to be in learning mode on this one as I’ve seen almost no work from either one. The Joshi match at All In was fantastic, and I’d never seen anything like it. That being the case, I won’t predict as it would be uninformed and unfair.
THE WINNAH and NEWWWW!!! – Me as I’ll be learning
Duke Dre: I’m gonna be real honest here, I haven’t really find a reason to be excited for this match. There hasn’t been much of a built if any at all aside from the obvious stipulation that the winner will face the winner of the women’s Casino Battle Royale on TNT to decide the first ever AEW Women’s Champion. Riho seems like someone that AEW has a lot of interest in featuring so I think it’s safe to say that she defeats Shida.
Sovereign S.A.M: Even though I have watched the AEW shows so far, I am still mostly in the dark with these two women. You can only build so much through pay-per-views, so I am really being more of a fan here. I have enjoyed Riho’s work a bit more than Shida’s, and I must admit that I like what I have seen from her. I wish I could comment more on this match, but I just don’t have the knowledge for it.
I am looking forward to learning a bit more about these two in the coming months with AEW.
The Winner: Riho
Sir Mitch: Have I ever mentioned that I love Joshi (Japanese Women’s Wrestling) like, REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY LOVE Joshi!!!! I haven’t? Well, now, you know.
These two are probably the two most talented Women in Joshi not currently signed to the Stardom promotion (Although, Riho has just started doing dates with Stardom and even won one of their championships) so this is the match I’m actually most looking forward too.
The Six-Women Tag Match at Double Or Nothing helped introduce new audiences to Joshi, and I hope more people look into it after they see this match.
As far as picking a winner goes, Shida was sold as a big deal signing to fans so expect her to come out on top.
Winner: Hikaru Shida
Magnate Mat: Chris Jericho is everything he says he is…the GOAT, the best there is at what he does, best performer of this generation…and it’s really tough to disagree that maybe, just maybe he SHOULD be the first AEW Champion. However, Adam Page is on the doorstep – after an amazing tenure in New Japan but no singles titles to show for it, Page has declared he will be the FIRST AEW Champion, and the case for him is good too. Young, hungry, talented…a wrestler any promotion would be more than happy to build around. It can really go either way
Winner: Chris Jericho…and Thank you
Private Party (Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen) vs. Angélico and Jack Evans
Queen KB: I’m really not a fan of Jack Evans. Anyone who has been in the industry as long as he has and has had the problems he’s had, rubs me the wrong way. When you get the reputation of working stiff for no obvious reason and getting into fights with people outside the ring, that’s not professional. I really cannot abide by someone who acts like that. Maybe he would have been better in MMA than pro wrestling. Either way, I cannot go with Evans and Angelico at this point.
Queen’s Predicted Winner – Private Party
Baron Botch: I’ve been watching Private Party for years and they’re both so much fun in there. I’ve seen them work in HOG, and CZW and they never fail to impress and entertain. Evans does have a bit of a reputation but his ring work makes no real apologies. Still, Private Party were so impressive at Fyter Fest that I just have to go with them here.
THE WINNAH!!! – Private Party
Duke Dre: This is a pick ’em match. This will be a nice “Buy In” showcase for the AEW featuring two very talented tag teams. However, there’s not very much at stake in this one. I think Evans and Angelico go over and I think they’ll go over dirty firmly making them heels going forward.
WINNER: ANGELICO & JACK EVANS
Sovereign S.A.M: If it wasn’t for some of the other matches on the All Out card, I would say this would be the match of the night easily. Private Party have had the light put on them and have shined bright. They have slowly become some of the breakout stars since AEW has become a reality, and that is a good thing. Angelico and Jack Evans have been around for some time and I have been a huge fan of Evans since I saw him team with Teddy Hart in AAA. Angelico was one of my favorites in Lucha Underground and it is nice to see him find himself a viable tag team partner. There will be a lot of fast-paced action in this one and will certainly get the crowd hyped.
The Winners: Private Party
Sir Mitch: I’m not super familiar with either of these teams (although I’ve seen Angelico and Jack Evens in AAA and Lucha Underground on and off) but based on what I’ve seen so far, I think this should be fun.
As far as picking a winner goes, I like Private Party’s gimmick, and I want to see them pushed to the forefront of AEW’s Tag Team division.
Winners: Private Party
Magnate Mat: Another high energy, high impact tag team contest to be had here. Private Party are building their legacy in a big way. Out of the House Of Glory promotion and recently making appearances in Northeast Wrestling, the Party is on. They’ve faced The Young Bucks recently, and will be facing the Lucha Bros at some point before the end of the year. Quen and Kassidy are primed to be a fixture in the AEW tag team division for some time. Angelico and Jack Evans are an established unit, having won tag titles in Mexico and set a record in their over year long title reign as a tag team there. Angelico will jump from anything nailed down, or not nailed down and the ageless Jack Evans is as fearless and as tough as they come, however, Private Party is young and hungry and probably willing to go just as far to secure that W in their quest to be the first AEW Tag Team Champions.
Winner – Break out the cranberry vodka and Red Bull – Private Party
Luchasaurus, Jungle Boy, and Marko Stunt vs. SoCal Uncensored (Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian, and Scorpio Sky)
Queen KB: This one is really hard for me. I’m a HUGE fan of the Fallen Angel and Kaz. Some of my favorite Twitter banter was with Daniels over the fact that he had a penchant for pleated pants in TNA and they made him look at least fifteen pounds heavier than he actually was, and in a really bad way. It looked like he was carrying extra fat in a strange area. He took my quirkiness in stride and played either heel or face back at me, whichever he was on TNA at the time. He could have easily ignored me or blocked me, but he gave some solid banter and won me over that much more than I already adored him. Kaz has always been a favorite of mine as he was one who never seemed to get over as much as I thought he should, even in TNA.
On the other hand, there is Jungle Boy who has been getting over in a huge way and proving himself beyond who his father was. It sucks that he got pushed in the media because his father was who he was and passed away so young and suddenly. I will say he’s taken it in stride. He’s part of quite the strange team. Stunt looks like my daughter Sam’s boyfriend Ben with a lot more attitude. Ben is fourteen and looks at it. Stunt doesn’t look any older than Ben and I find that both very unnerving and very ECW. Then there’s Luchasaurus. It feels like forever since I’ve watched Big Brother, but when I did, I adored Austin. I have a thing for hairy guys, something we have already established, and he’s older than my daughter Ellie, so he’s not so young that I feel dirty looking at him. I hadn’t put two and two together, that Austin was Luchasaurus, even though I knew Austin was in AEW.
Anyway, two teams that I truly love and both have pros and cons. The thing is that I have to go with the thought that the older wrestlers will put over the younger, up-and-coming wrestlers here to help push them forward. It’s the only thing that makes sense to me at this juncture.
Queen’s Predicted Winner – Luchasaurus & Jungle Boy & Marko Stunt
Baron Botch: This will be THE WORST MATCH THEY’VE EVER BEEN IN! Sorry…had to do it. This was pretty last-minute but I’m not mad at its inclusion. Luchasaurus is a real throwback to the WWF (yes, I said WWF) characters and there’s no harm in it either as long as it’s not the norm. Jungle Boy is kinda similar and he’s just dripping in charisma and underdog fun. Marko is the ultimate underdog here. SoCal is polish personified. All of this would add up the match of the night if the Bucks weren’t going to be in there trying to kill themselves. I love a good underdog…and you do too.
THE WINNAH!!! – Luchasaurus, Jungle Boy, & Marko Stunt
Duke Dre: This will be a fun Trios Match. I suspect that there will be a lot of comedy spots in this one. I love Jungle Boy and am really looking forward to seeing how AEW uses him going forward but I don’t think Marko, Luchasaurus, and he get the win here. SoCal need this win more to help establish them as one of the top teams in AEW.
WINNER: SoCAL UNCENSORED
Sir Mitch: This one was added last minute (really hope they don’t make a habit of that by the way as its annoying enough when WWE does it) however, this should be a fun six-man.
The pairing of Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy was simply put pure genius and the addition of Marko Stunt to the stable honestly made it even more exciting. But with that being said, I foresee SCU going over here.
Magnate Mat: This should be a very fun, high energy match. There really isn’t a better 3 person unit in wrestling right now that rivals So Cal Uncensored, even the term “well oiled machine” doesn’t do their chemistry justice. Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy are a solid team, having been a fixture on the west coast independent scene for some time and hooked up with one of AEWs newest signees and all around fun guy Marko Stunt, they should give SCU a very unorthodox challenge.
Winner – THIS IS THE WORST TOWN THEY’VE EVER BEEN IN…..S C UUUUUUUUUU
