Welcome to another fantastic installment of WR Predicts. With Smackdown being moved to Friday nights we have had to push Predicts back to being posted on Saturday so that we don’t miss anything. Further, with Baron Botch writing the SD Deep Dive, the role of posting Predicts has fallen to myself and Mitch for weekends I’m away. Please stick with me as I get back in the groove of posting these again.
Seth Rollins (c) vs. The Fiend Bray Wyatt in HIAC for Universal Championship
I’m so excited about this match, but I worry that they might have blocked themselves into a corner with it. The Fiend doesn’t need gold to be the top monster on Raw, but Wyatt’s first match as The Fiend being for gold has me a bit worried. If The Fiend loses it kills all his momentum, but he doesn’t need the gold to be a top superstar. Further, Rollins hasn’t had the strap that long after getting it back from Brock who only had it for a brief time. I’m not at all against them playing a bit of Hot Potato with the Universal Championship if it’s being used in creative, insightful, and useful ways by superstars who truly deserve it in storylines that make sense. I think most people don’t think The Fiend will win the Universal Championship (not reading the rest of the results until after I write my own), but I’m going to pull on my big girl knickers and state that after a truly sick, and possibly bloody, HIAC Match The Fiend will be walking out with GOLD!
Queen’s Predicted Winner & new Universal Champion – The Fiend
Well, this happened quickly, didn’t it? The Fiend is a brilliant character that has thus far been pulled off nearly perfectly. The one thing that’s not perfect is The Fiend going after…a title. He’s a Fiend. Why should he care about a title? The Fiend is about vengeance. In order for this to make sense, he really shouldn’t win. He should maim, defile, and torment Seth for all he’s worth – even doing so to the detriment of a clean win so he’ll look strong. What I don’t want to see is The Fiend with a belt. That will conventionalize him and I have no desire for that whatsoever.
THE WINNAH! – The Fiend via DQ
This is a match that I didn’t think we would be getting so soon. The Fiend character is the most talked about thing in wrestling right now and is probably the most unique character since Broken Matt Hardy and Rosemary made their respective debuts in Impact. I honestly have no idea what to expect from this match because it can go so many ways. The end result should be that the Fiend is protected in some way because it is far too early for him to suffer a loss. Seth, on the other hand, has kind of peaked in this babyface run and he needs some edge back. This could be the match that starts that for him because he is starting to veer to the boring side of things. Now I don’t mean boring with his ring work, but I mean it as far as his character and promos. There is really only one choice for me in this match and I really cannot wait to see how this unfolds.
The Winner and New Universal Champion: The Fiend Bray Wyatt
This one is hard to call. On one hand, having the Fiend go over to win the title (seeing how Brock went over yesterday) would almost guarantee we get a Brock vs Fiend match setup for Surviver Series, assuming that the theme of the PPV will once again be RAW vs SD. But my second scenario calls for The Undertaker to make a cameo toward the end of this match setting up a Fiend/Taker match at the PPV where the Undertaker debuted at. I tend to think the latter will happen. Seth retains.
WINNER: SETH ROLLINS
The Fiend is easily the hottest thing going in WWE right now. The Firefly Fun House skits were very entertaining…and then The Fiend showed up. The Fiend’s first entrance racked up 1 million-plus views on YouTube before the week was out. Seth Rollins is boring, probably the best wrestler on the RAW roster not named Ricochet or AJ Styles, but still kinda boring…..and the Universal Champion. Maybe The Fiend is what Rollins needs to kickstart his mojo or maybe it is The Fiend’s time to hold the Universal Title.
Winner – AND NEW Universal Champion The Fiend
Becky Lynch (c) vs. Sasha Banks in HIAC for Raw Women’s Championship
I’m giddy for this match as I was lucky enough to see the first Women’s HIAC between Sasha and Charlotte live. Since then I’ve said that once is a novelty, continuing with them makes it real. Finally things are getting real for the women in HIAC, and so it’s another step in the right direction for women. I love that Sasha is in there again and even better that she’s in there with Becky. Sasha knows what she is going into and The Man can handle anything she walks into. These two will leave it all in that cell and we are the lucky ones. All that being said, and after Sasha’s big return, I don’t see Becky losing the strap just yet. As we saw between Cole and Riddle on NXT this week, both Becky and Sasha will come out of there looking like rockstars, no one will be buried or look bad, but Sasha just won’t be able to pull it out against The Man! Personally I think the person to take the strap off Becky should be Shayna Baszler.
Queen’s Predicted Winner – Becky Lynch
This has been fun. I’m glad we have Sasha Banks back and this feud, while it could have been a bit better, still hasn’t really disappointed. These two can work the ring extremely well so the match won’t let us down in any way. This should also be pretty visceral given that it’s in the cell. As for who wins, I’m torn. On the one hand, I’d like to see Sasha with a meaningful championship reign (something she’s never had) but I also dearly love The Man. In the end, I think The Man will take this given her status, though I’ll be quite happy if Sasha takes this.
THE WINNAH! – The Man
This is a match that I am hyped about and one that can certainly live up to all the hype. This Becky and Sasha feud is exactly what the Raw women’s division needed after that lackluster Natalya/Becky feud over the summer. Sasha has returned in all her heel glory and she has embraced it more and more with each week. This feud has also done wonders for Becky because she finally has someone to go toe-to-toe with on the mic and in the ring. Becky has needed this feud and it has developed quite nicely since it started. I really do expect both women to kill it here and I expect them to try and one up the previous Hell in a Cell match that featured Sasha Banks. With the draft looming, I think one result here makes the most sense for the future of Raw.
The Winner and New Raw Women’s Champion: Sasha Banks
Banks and Lynch are gonna have a hard time following the epic match they had last month. With that said, both ladies are capable of doing it. Becky has come out on top during every exchange they’ve had leading up to this point. Which is why I’m picking Sasha to win this one. Having Sasha and her best buddy Bayley walking into RAW as the Womens’ Champions just makes all too much. Oh, and Sasha will surely get an assist from Bayley.
WINNER: SASHA BANKS
The Man is still The Man, and The Man now has to deal with the Boss….but the Boss has cooled a bit since her return. Still, two of the best womens wrestlers on this roster are fitting to go at it in what might be the MOTN (that’s match of the night). I’m not sure what the future holds for Becky but it’s clear the WWE wants her front and center of the women’s division…but on which show, be it RAW or SD, as SmackDown premieres on its new home of FOX this week.
Winner – AND STILL RAW Womens Champion…The Man aka Becky Lynch
Daniel Bryan & Roman Reigns vs. Erick Rowan & Luke Harper
We have complained for so long about Reigns being the golden boy, but in reality he hasn’t been for a while now, and I think this match will be another loss for him and Bryan. Rowan and Harper are quite the formidable team, and they really deserve one more push and they need to win this to continue with that push. If during this push there are more injuries, I think the WWE will need to see the writing on the wall. I love Rowan and Harper and what a great and unstoppable team they can be when healthy. Sadly healthy is something they have struggled with on the main roster and if they cannot stay healthy, then I say it’s time to stop pushing them. Right now they are healthy and because they need to be pushed as unstoppable, they need to win this match. Watch them both get injured in this match somehow! I don’t want to see anyone injured, but I do worry about these two.
Queen’s Predicted Winner – Rowan and Harper
Suddenly seeing Daniel as a face again is kind of odd. I never thought I’d be into him as a heel but he did it so well, I couldn’t hate. Erick & Luke are back together again (got the world in a spin…no one will catch that but oh well). The Bludgeon Brothers thing was stupid so I’m glad they aren’t that anymore and they now just work as versions of themselves. Erick’s recent success is a real breath of fresh air too. This is how you build a star that can actually pull it off (sorry, Jinder). As Daniel & Roman are so well established, I think the winner here is rather obvious.
THE WINNAH! – Erick Rowan & Luke Harper
I can honestly say that I have no idea what to expect from this match. I am so happy to see Luke Harper back on television because he has been criminally underutilized for so long. It has been interesting to see Bryan dive back in the face side of things and I just have to wonder how long it will last. It feels like this match is tailor-made for Bryan to betray Roman and join Rowan and Harper. It feels so obvious that I wonder if WWE will wait on that or just completely avoid that obvious turn. This could possibly be a sleeper hit because all four men can put on a heck of a match. Feels like a coin toss so I will just go with my gut on this one.
The Winners: Erick Rowan & Luke Harper
There’s no doubt in my mind that Roman is walking into an ambush here. The end game here has to be Bryan turning heel on Roman and revealing to the world that he, Rowan, and Harper have been playing Roman this whole time. The motive is absolutely there for Bryan wanting Roman out of the way. Roman got the spot in 2015 that Bryan felt he should have been in his and even now Bryan could try justifying his actions by saying that Roman returning earlier this year put his own return the year before in the rearview mirror. Harper and Rowan go over here with an assist from Bryan. On a side note this will be used to bring back The Usos to come to the aid of their cousin a short time following HIAC.
WINNER: LUKE HARPER AND ERIK ROWAN
This has been an odd, but comfortably long-running storyline. This long trail of the “new” Daniel Bryan and his “equal” Rowan, then the attacks on Roman. Now Rowan is his own man and the long-missing Luke Harper, his former tag team partner and Wyatt Family cohort, have returned and they have plans to do……..something. So now Reigns and Bryan are forced to work together to combat the nefarious (maybe) plans of Rowan and Harper. This has the potential to be a really good match. Rowan and Harper have always been great brawler types and DB and Reigns are where they are in the company because they are good at their jobs. As to where this match goes and what happens next, I expect a brawl.
Winner – Reigns and Bryan
Bayley (c) vs. Charlotte Flair for SD Women’s Championship
This should be short, sweet, and to the point. I’m not a huge fan of Charlotte beating her father’s championship record before she’s thirty-five, but I’m also not a huge fan of Bayley as Women’s Champion anywhere but in NXT. Honestly, I’d love to see Bayley go back to NXT to find herself again, but I doubt that will happen. Anyway, quick and easy, Charlotte needs to win this one, get the strap off Bayley and move on to defend the strap against either Ember Moon or Sonya – obviously depending on who ends up on which show after the Draft.
Queen’s Predicted Winner & new SD Women’s Champion – Charlotte
Bayley’s entire run as champ has been a non-event. I’ve said this before but it bears repeating: no one has ever seen such a fall from grace as Bayley. In NXT, she was fun and energetic. Further, she could get it done in the ring and had real classics in there with Sasha and others. That Bayley/Sasha match at TakeOver is one of the best matches by anyone I’ve EVER seen. She then gets called up and loses EVERY BIT of what made her special. She became boring and her ring work isn’t nearly what it once was. Talk about falling from dizzying heights… Charlotte, on the other hand, is essentially all she says she is. She’s developed personality-wise and her ring work, good as it was before, has gotten even better. I expect this match to be pretty good for sure. As for the title, it’s long since time for Bayley to move over for someone else to have a meaningful run with that title.
THE WINNAH and NEWWWWWWW!!! – Charlotte Flair
Here we have a very late addition to a card that feels like kind of an afterthought because of Smackdown’s debut on Fox. Sidebar, I was there for Smackdown’s premiere and they absolutely killed it. Back to this match and I think this has the potential to be something good. We got a taste of that in their previous encounter that was oddly short. I have enjoyed Bayley’s work since Sasha came back and I really think she has rediscovered something since her bestie came back. Charlotte has been the Queen of WWE for some time now, so she always seems to be the favorite going into any title match. I don’t know if this will be the end of this feud since the draft is looming, but it very well could be. This is about a pick ‘em match as any I can think of for Hell in a Cell so I will go with what feels right for the moment.
The Winner and New Smackdown Women’s Champion: Charlotte Flair
While this was just announced yesterday it was fairly obvious that a rematch was inevitable. It usually always seems like a safe bet to go with Charlotte because she usually comes out on top but there’s just too much mileage left with delusional heel Bayley and her heel alliance with Sasha to have Charlotte go over here. And don’t be surprised if the 4 horsewomen find themselves in a situation where they must all come together to face an bigger threat of Ronda, Baszler, Jessica Duke and Marina Shafir.
Bayley’s reigns as champion has been underwhelming but her character shift is not…just come later than it should. Charlotte is probably the 2nd or 3rd best wrestler in the entire women’s division but the WWE clearly wants her to be its centerpiece…especially with the move to FOX. Maybe Charlotte can pull a five-star match out of Bayley…maybe not.
Winner – Charlotte
Four matches on the card leaves these superstars with a lot of time to fill with these matches. Hopefully that means that these matches will be given the time needed to really let these superstars shine. If not they will be adding matches on the fly and that’s never good for anyone. Either way, it will be an interesting night with so much great wrestling that we will be left jaws agape. Make sure you join us for the HIAC Dignified Discussion so we can all watch and discuss together!
