In-ring segment – King Corbin, Dolph Ziggler, & Robert Roode

LOL!!  This was a riot.  He finally got the throne entrance.  I always cringe seeing this as it only takes one person to screw up and the king goes tumbling to the floor.  That didn’t happen here, though, and his entrance went off without a hitch.  I’ve really enjoyed Corbin as king so far.  He’s completely sniveling and it’s great.  He’s never been bad on the mic and he’s even better now that he’s got something to crow about.  Ziggler and Roode were reactionary gold in there.  When they both got on the mic, they were both heel-ish fun.

They continue to mess with Reigns and it’s a riot.  Along with the usual titantron modifications (LOL!!), out comes a dude in a dog suit.  All in all, a really fun opening to “Smackdown”.

Shorty G & Mustafa Ali vs. Robert Roode & Dolph Ziggler

Yep, Ali has his first name again.  It was announced on Twitter earlier this week and made manifest tonight.  Ziggler and Roode are here to “right the wrong” and take their rightful place on the Survivor Series team in place of Shorty G & Mustafa Ali.

Love that Roman came out during the match.  The mascot was gone.  He headed for the audience, Roman stayed out there in G & Ali’s corner, and the match continued.  Roman actually makes for a pretty good “corner guy”.  He didn’t just stand there at all.  He reacted to everything and even to involved to keep Corbin from interfering.  As a result, G & Ali were able to pull off the uninterrupted win.  Fun ending and overall good match.

Firefly Fun House

It was only a matter of time before the Universal Championship officially turned blue.  I like it!  I miss the rest of the cast but this did its job.  Kinda meh.

Backstage segment – King Corbin, mascot, Dolph Ziggler, & Robert Roode

They’re upset that they didn’t win and they want Corbin to “fix” it.  Short but sweet.  Wonder what’ll come of it.

Braun Strowman vs. Drew Gulak & The B-Team (Curtis Axel & Bo Dallas)

Poor Gulak.  He does incredibly well on the mic but he deserves better than to job like this.  B-Team have been jobbing for a while now so that’s to be expected.  This wasn’t really a match.  Honestly, I’m not sure what it was.  Braun is boring at this point as he never wins when it matters.

Backstage segment – New Day (Kofi Kingston & Big E.)

Ah, cheap pop.  Big E. is a national treasure.  I love that they keep the camera on Big E. sometimes when he does the intro now.  They should do it all the time.

Backstage segment – Daniel Bryan, Sami Zayn, & Shinsuke Nakamura

Sami is so good at these.  He did two of them on one show last week and I loved them both.  Daniel isn’t joining them and that’s it.  Sami is completely golden.  Shinsuke’s subtle reactions were fun too.  Nice segment.

The New Day (Kofi Kingston & Big E.) vs. The Revival (Scott Dawson & Dash Wilder)

This was a very good match.  Of course, it couldn’t end cleanly.  Remember we’re near Survivor Series so there had to be interference.  The Undisputed Era came out to wreak havoc and they did so nicely.  The Smackdown locker room “emptied” (not really; Heavy Machinery and guys were barely see anymore came out) and UE were chased off.

When are we gonna see Raw & Smackdown invade each other?  That has yet to happen and we’re running out of time to see it.  NXT has both invade and been invaded.  Nothing with Raw & Smackdown invaded each other.  We always get that so I’m waiting for it.

Heavy Machinery vs. Kevin Tibbs & Kip Stevens

Jobber match.  Why?  Just why?  I mean, I’m glad indie guys are getting on TV but Otis & Tucker have done far too many of these kinds of matches.

To borrow a word from Sam, SKIP!  I did (literally, I watched it after it aired and skipped through most of it).

Backstage segment – Bayley & Sasha Banks

Sasha is so completely natural as a heel and Bayley came off decently but still rather scripted.  She’s still working on it.

Nikki Cross vs. Bayley

Again with this?  This match-up is getting really tired.   Thankfully, it didn’t actually happen.  This was merely a setup for an invasion from Dakota Kai, Mia Yim, Rhea Ripley, Tegan Nox, & Shayna Bazsler.  Then, Dana Brooke, Mandy Rose, Sonya Deville, and Carmella came out.  We ended up with a four-way match.  I have absolutely no clue how Mia is even out there but I’m glad she’s okay.

Dakota Kai, Mia Yim, Rhea Ripley, and Tegan Nox vs. Sasha Banks, Dana Brooke, Nikki Cross, & Carmella

This was a fun match but I really enjoyed the interactions between Banks & Ripley.  They have definite chemistry in there and it was a lot of fun watching them.  Dakota Kai ended up taking the fall here but they all went after each other at the end.  This nicely sells the upcoming event.  I was into it anyway and this helps me even further.

I do wonder if there’ll be any repercussions for Dakota for losing this match.  We’ll have to tune in to NXT next Wednesday to find out.

MizTV – The Miz, Daniel Bryan, and Bray Wyatt

No one eggs people on like Miz.  Daniel told a great story here.  This is the first time Firefly Fun House has actually kind of been live.  They kept it in the framework of the Funhouse but it was done in a live way.  Bray doing Bryan’s “Yes” chants was phenomenal.  Now we know what Daniel’s doing next…and it’ll be fun.

So far, I’m not hating The Fiend being champion like I was afraid I would be.

So there it is!  The fun stories heading into Survivor Series continue.  This also ends my official time as your Smackdown blog writer.  Further, it ends the rather short stay of the “Deep Dive”.  Next week, stay tuned for a brand new series featuring Queen Kendra in her rightful place.  See you all next week!
