Jim Cornette Resigns from NWA

Jim Cornette has officially left NWA after comments he made during Tuesday night’s “NWA Powerrr” YouTube show where he made some racially-charged comments during the Nick Aldis/Trevor Murdoch match.  Here’s the news straight from NWA:

Effective immediately: Jim Cornette has resigned from the National Wrestling Alliance. As an announcer on the November 19th edition of NWA Power, Jim made remarks during a singles match between Nick Aldis and Trevor Murdoch that were both offensive and do not meet the high standards of decency and good faith of the National Wrestling Alliance.

To ensure that such an error can never happen again, we’ve established new procedures of review for all NWA programming going forward.

We sincerely regret our failure in this regard.

Cornette retweeted NWA’s tweet concerning the situation and also tweeted this out:

Botch Take:  I wasn’t there but based on that last tweet, it very much feels as though Cornette resigned under pressure.  He said what he said and he doesn’t really seem to care too much, does he?  Those are decidedly NOT the words of a repentant man.  You’ll forgive me if I take a big ol’ pass on this podcast (why interrupt the trend, right?)  Cornette said a really stupid thing and he paid for it.  This isn’t the first time and knowing his track record, it won’t be the last time either.  This is “foot in mouth” disease at its very finest.  Why anyone would hire him as on-air talent at this point totally mystifies me.  He’s excellent at it but he’s doomed at some point to lose control of his tongue so he can’t be trusted.

‘Course, the problem is that he was all the charisma and personality of their commentary team.  The other two guys are completely forgettable.  They’ll need to fill that hole with someone who’s got a personality.  It’ll be interesting to see who they find.
