Tracy Smothers, a wrestler who worked absolutely everywhere during a long career that began in 1982, passed away early this morning from cancer. He spent time in ECW in the late 1990’s as a member of the Full Blooded Italians and then did time in WWE. He was involved in a fun feud with the Fabulous Freebirds as he teamed with the son of Bob Armstrong, Steve, in a team called the Southern Boys. He also spent some time in WWE as jobber Fred Joe Floyd.
Many wrestlers have expressed their grief on Twitter including Ricochet, Mustafa Ali, AJ Gray, Suge D, and former CWF announcer, Brad Stutts. We, too, send our condolences to all who knew and loved him.
Botch Take: He really is quite the loss to the indie wrestling community. He was always very quick to sit down with any wrestler and talk to them about how they could be better. There are many stories on Twitter right now and all are worth reading and speak to the kind of man Tracy really was. He was an absolute riot in ECW with Tommy Rich in the Full Blooded Italians – most because neither Rich nor Smothers are Italian. They also had JT Smith who’d had a concussion from hitting his head on the floor during a spot he botched (I remember seeing it and cringing). Once he recovered, he believed he was Italian and joined the stable. He had the accent and everything. You just have to see it. Anyway, they were all just hilarious and Smothers was a huge part of that.
