On the most recent episode of Ring of Honor television, Jonathan Gresham defeated Tracy Williams to become the first man to hold the newly reinstated Ring of Honor Pure Championship. Gresham won using the Octopus Stretch.
This tournament also featured such names as Josh Woods, Matt Sydal, Dalton Castle, Fred Yehi, PJ Black, and Jonathan Gresham’s tag team partner, Jay Lethal. Lethal would celebrate in the ring with Gresham after he was given the championship.
Jonathan Gresham is only the eighth person to ever hold this championship, which has been on hiatus since 2006 when it was unified in a match between Daniel Bryan and Nigel McGuinness. AJ Styles was the first champion back in 2004. The title has also been held by such names as Samoa Joe and Daniel Bryan.
The most recent episode of Ring of Honor began airing in syndication over Halloween weekend and will be available on FITE TV on Monday, November 2, 2020.
ROH reinstating the championship as well as retiring the Women Of Honor Championship and introducing a new Women’s Title is seen as part of the promotions plans to improve their fortunes after their ticket sales and iPPV buys plummeted not long after losing most of their top draws to AEW as well as being forced to shut down for months due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Sir Mitch Says: While I admire ROH’s efforts, the fact is that after AEW started few fans still watch ROH. Which is a shame given the history of the promotion but its a sad undeniable fact.
