Details On AEW/Impact Wrestling Relationship

Kenny Omega defeated Jon Moxley to win the AEW Championship last night and did so with the help of Don Callis. Callis joined commentary for his match and would flee with Omega after and provided some rather interesting dialog as Dynamite would be coming to a close.

Callis would then go on to say in an interview after the match that Omega would appear on next week’s episode of Impact Wrestling in order to explain his actions.

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, “So AEW…the Callis thing has been in the works for a while. I didn’t know this, I presume…Callis came up with the Kenny Omega-Chris Jericho match [at Wrestle Kingdom a few years ago], I presume he came up with this idea and Tony Khan went with it and Omega probably wanted it. It will be some sort of promotional thing and the promotions are going to be working together to a degree, which is obviously very beneficial to Impact.”

Meltzer also noted that this could likely lead to matches between members of the Impact and AEW roster and he noted that AEW is wanting to work with other promotions such as AAA and NJPW. Meltzer stated that although AEW hasn’t advertised it just yet, Omega will be doing an interview on next week’s Dynamite as well.

S.A.M.’s Spiel: I get why the alliance between the two companies is happening but I am still uncertain about it. For one thing, Impact has a killer women’s division and knows how to book them while the AEW side of things is rather lacking in that department. There could be some interesting matches for sure but this will clearly benefit Impact more than AEW to get more eyes on their programming. We shall see how this all pans out for both companies.
