Sunday, December 6, WWE presents NXT TakeOver: WarGames from CWC in Orlando, Florida. As per usual we gathered to predict what we feel should be another amazing WarGames, especially coming off the last one which was stellar. Make sure you vote for who you want to win the matches and leave your comments below.
Team Shotzi (Shotzi Blackheart, Ember Moon, Rhea Ripley and Io Shirai) vs Team Candice (Candice LeRae, Dakota Kai, Raquel González, and Toni Storm) WarGames Match
I’m so excited for this match. The last female edition of this match is still high up in my top ten favorite matches of all time. Candice, Rhea, Bianca, and Dakota stole the show, and I expect three of the four of them to do the same yet again. I can’t wait to see how they book this one because it’s going to be very hard for them to top the last one. All of the women in this match are stars and it’s almost a kick in the teeth that I have to pick one team over the other, but I need to, and since I really want to see Ember Moon and Shotzi Blackheart go over this time. Doesn’t hurt that Rhea and Io are on that team as well.
Winners – Team Shotzi
Now this is the match I am most looking forward to. Shotzi Blackheart is for sure going to do something crazy because that is just what she does. In all honesty, she has kind of been the face of WarGames this year and you can just tell that they feel like there is money with her. This match has so much talent involved that you know the potential for greatness is there. Last year had a tremendous WarGames match featuring the women and you can imagine they are chomping at the bit to try and top it. This has all the makings of being a late entry into the match of the year talk because of who is involved. This is one match I truly want to sit back and enjoy because of how fun it can be.
The Winners: Team Shotzi
I will admit that I’m a little disappointed that the reveal of the 4th member for Team Blackheart wasn’t someone that we least expected, however, I get that Io needed something to do at War Games since she doesn’t have a title defense herself on Sunday. I love the heel turn of Toni Storm so far and although Team Shotzi is stacked with the women’s NXT Champion and two former champions I think Team Candice needs the win more especially because it would help boost Gonzales & Storm so my pick is Team Candice.
WINNER: TEAM CANDICE
I’m very excited about this match, for sure as I know that they would deliver a great match. The only limitation is their imaginations which has me excited and worried at the same time about what they would do in the match. I don’t know who is going in first two women are going to be but they are going to have a long night ahead of them that’s for sure. This is only the beginning of a rivalry between the two teams as it is going to splinter off into individual rivalries afterward. This match is going to be a tough one to pick but I’m going to pick.
Winners: Team Shotzi
The Undisputed Era vs Team McAfee (Pat McAfee, Pete Dunne, Danny Burch, and Oney Lorcan) WarGames Match
I try not to read any other predictions before writing mine, but Sam’s came in before I wrote mine and I saw a bit of what he said about this match I completely disagree with him. When McAfee faced Cole previously I was genuinely surprised at how he handled himself in the ring, and his mic work is stellar. It looked as though it was a one-off thing and McAfee was done, yet here he is leading the charge against UE and doing a great job of it. I’m loving how this is continuing and I think it’s great for all involved, especially the fans. It’s because of this I’m hoping McAfee will be sticking around and lead his team to victory here. Hear me out. We keep saying as we go into every TakeOver that UE will be called up to Raw and SD, whether together or separately. I think this is something that needs to happen as both shows are way too light on teams, which these guys get in a massive way. So while they’re great on NXT, I think it’s time for something different.
Winners – Team McAfee
The Undisputed Era are the faces of NXT right now and they have a signature match in WarGames to boot. I have loved McAfee in NXT and he does such a great job in making his group feel like a big deal. I really do not know what to expect from this match but I certainly feel like it will be a fun one. McAfee showed in his match with Adam Cole that he can perform in the ring rather well and I feel like he will bust something out here. The story has been told great as well between these two sides and I can honestly say I have no idea what to expect but I feel like there may be a moment where the UE have Pat surrounded and they each take their turn doing a move on him. I feel like one team makes more sense over the other in taking the win here.
The Winners: The Undisputed Era
I keep waiting for the day that and anticipating the day that Undisputed Era either implodes or gets disbanded. In fact, I would have loved for the latter to be the stipulation put in place, if the Undisputed Era did not win this match to add a huge sense of urgency to it. But even without that this is still the match I’m looking forward to the most on this card. This new stable of McAfee’s is clicking on all cylinders and is still in the beginning phases so I have to go with them. The deride of Undisputed Era feels like it’s up in the air so the fall out from this match might be even more intriguing than the actual match
WINNER: TEAM MCAFEE
As brutal as the Women’s WarGames match is going to be I definitely know that this match will top it in that regard and they will use weapons in the match from Singapore canes to being put through tables. Hopefully no one gets injured in either Wargames matches. This match is going to be a technical masterpiece, between the brutality of the weapons spots. The rivalry between Cole and McAfee has been great and this is only going to add fuel to the fire and I’m here for the ride.
Winners: Team Mcafee
Leon Ruff (c) vs Johnny Gargano vs Damian Priest (NXT North American Championship)
I’m so excited for this one, mostly because I’m totally loving Leon Ruff. He emotes all the time and is such a cutie. He’s been wrestling for two years and he’s already holding WWE gold. Add in that he posted on Twitter that she said yes, and he’s had an amazing month! Okay, now it’s December and I see no reason for things to change for him, especially since he’s in a match with two of NXT’s greatest competitors. Johnny Wrestling owns NXT, and Damian Priest is a star (and specimen) in his own right. As I see no reason to change what a great autumn Ruff has had, I’m thinking that he will somehow squirp out the win in an interesting way that pisses off Gargano to no end.
Winner & Still carrying gold – Leon Ruff
Now this is for sure to be a fun match and I hope we get to see Leon Ruff really show out here. You have seen glimpses of it during this push of his and this will be the perfect time for him to showcase his talent on a big stage. We all know that Gargano can put on a clinic in his sleep and Priest is also someone that is up to the task as well. For me, my eyes will be on Ruff to see how he performs in the biggest match of his young career. I would say this will steal the show but that is always hard when there is WarGames on the card as well. I don’t know whether to go with my heart or my head here but I will just have to make the decision that I feel will be the best.
The Winner and STILL NXT North American Champion: Leon Ruff
Add Leon Ruff winning the North American Championship off of Johnny Gargano to the list of crazy things to happen in the year that is 2020. Ruff is having one hell of a year, isn’t he? A month ago most of the wrestling world had no clue who he was and now he holds a clean victory over arguably the greatest in-ring competitor in NXT history, has a belt to show for it, oh and he recently just got engaged too. I can’t help but be happy for the guy. I see Ruff pulling off another upset victory on Sunday here. Gargano and Priest will end up taking each other out of the equation and Ruff will somehow pick up the scraps to continue his fairy tale run.
WINNER: LEON RUFF
This match needed fresh blood in it and I didn’t even know that it was needed and I love every moment since Ruff won the title from Gargano. It has been fun with Priest making fun of Gargano for losing the title to Ruff and Gargano reminding everyone that he hates wheels. I know that the real reason why Priest helped Ruff win the title is that it would be a lot easier to win it from Ruff than Gargano and his cheating ways. I hope that they keep the title on Ruff and this turns into a three-way feud for the title.
Winner: Leon Ruff
Dexter Lumis vs. Cameron Grimes (Strap match)
The two men in this match have more personality between them than the women have matches in AEW. Okay, that’s not a high bar, but I’m sure you know what I’m talking about. These two have crazy skills all the way around but are so different in how they go about them. Grimes’ character is about as bombastic as anyone, other than a dancing young Shane McMahon, in many years, and because of that he caught my attention and ran away with it. I know I’ve said this before, but he really reminds me of some of my crazy medieval friends. Strangely enough, there are plenty of quiet ones like Lumis as well, but they don’t get to stay quiet for very long. I’m still in awe that he’s the same guy from TNA, but I’ve always thought he was talented, in the ring and as an artist. Yet I’m going off the rails and picking Grimes for the win. Can you imagine how absurd he’d be after beating Lumis in this match? He will be insufferable, leading to something bigger than this strap match where Lumis wins and takes a massive step up in NXT.
Winner – Cameron Grimes
This is the one match that I fully expect to be a sleeper. Lumis is a character all his own and I love that he says nothing but is still able to emote with his body language and eyes. Grimes is his polar opposite as he is loud and brash and I love every minute of it. I can expect them both to lay into each other with the straps and may make me wince a bit with the strikes. I feel like this will also be the blowoff to their feud because I don’t see what else they can do after this. I think we can expect the winner of this match to probably move into the North American Title scene soon after because it does feel like either man could be a nice addition to the scene. I don’t know who to pick here but will have to go with my gut.
The Winner: Dexter Lumis
Lumis and Grimes have been booked in just about every type of wonky match possible leading up to this strap match. While I have no issues with Grimes as a performer he’s someone that I look at as a career midcarder, Lumis, on the other hand, seems to have upward mobility up the NXT ladder and I’d find it hard to believe that NXT creative would put him under Grimes on a stage such as TakeOver.
I have been loving this feud as Grimes is confident and cocky but as soon as he sees Lumis that just goes straight out the window and he runs away scared for his life. I also love the way how Lumis draws Grimes and has a strange fascination with him. This is definitely going to be a funny and strange match that is straight up going to be fun on every level.
Winner and going straight to the moon: Cameron Grimes
Timothy Thatcher vs Tommaso Ciampa
I know I’ve said this a couple times, but I’m not vibing Thatcher yet. No clue why, so I’m not going to push too hard until I figure it out. Until then, and after what happened on Wednesday, I am hoping Ciampa wins. Further, because I adore the boy even more than Oney, I’m hoping that Austin Grey gets involved in some way costing Thatcher the match after the beating he took when Ciampa showed up and took out Thatcher previously. Hey, Oney is doing well, I want to see my boy AG do just as well.
Winner – Ciampa
This is a late addition to the card but I am still excited for it. Thatcher has become one of my favorites in NXT and Ciampa has long been one of my favorites in NXT. I like how Ciampa simply wants a fight and he is sure to get it with Thatcher. This is one match that I totally expect to be a stiff affair and I am all for it. It is hard for Ciampa to have a bad match so this could be a pleasant surprise of a match. It is a bit difficult to pick a winner though because of the late addition but I think I know who will take this one.
The Winner: Timothy Thatcher
This one is tough to call in part because there hasn’t been much build for this one yet so this one sort of feels rushed. Both guys could use a win here but I believe Ciampa may actually need the win here more. I can’t recall the last time Ciampa had his hand raised in victory at a NXT TakeOver. For that reason alone I’m going with Ciampa.
This match has been thrown together and it is going to be great as Thatcher is good with anybody in the ring and so is Ciampa. So far they both have good chemistry but this match will show if this is going to be a feud or a one-off between the two and hopefully it would turn into a feud with the fight pit as the last match.
Winner via DQ: Tommaso Ciampa
