My Right Hand & My Left Hand (AEW Review)

Hey, kids!  It’s the Botching one…and you know what that means!  It’s time for another AEW review!  Let’s get into Dynamite now, shall we?

Eddie Kingston vs. Lance Archer

JR described this as having the potential to be “bowling shoe ugly” and that’s what we got here.  Kingston throws an EVIL chop – not WALTER-evil but really horrible.  I love Eddie’s attack style; it’s very much its own thing.  Archer’s horrifying choke slam to the floor from inside the ring was just insidious.  There’s literally no way that didn’t hurt.  OUCHIES!  They were just absolutely EVIL to each other and they told an amazing story in there.  Archer only wanted to hurt Kingston; he didn’t care about winning.  I even liked the “dirty pool” at the end.  Eddie got murdered in there but needed the assistance of Butcher, Blade, & Bunny in order to win.  Perfect heel work.

Cinéma de Mox – Jon Moxley

He nails stuff like this.  He did it again here.  He just casually tells the story of the feud he’s in and he’s always compelling.  Mox is the perfect fit for AEW and he’s been a great acquisition.

Cinéma de Sting – Sting & Darby Allin

I have no desire to see Sting wrestle at this point but he won’t be doing that here; it’ll be a street fight.  This promo was compelling.  Both Darby & Sting were fun here.  They sold violence and the match might be fun.  I THINK I liked this…

Varsity Blondes (Griff Garrison & Brian Pillman, Jr.) vs. MJF & Chris Jericho

There were multiple stories going on here.  The match itself and the MJF/Sammy discord.  I love MJF running to try to interfere with Pillman as he went to dive onto Jericho.  He was slightly late but it felt real.  Jericho doesn’t take it easy on himself.  He really works to get people over, no matter what he’s doing.  He will let people get their stuff in and he definitely did it here.  The remix of Jericho’s theme with MJF’s is fun too.

Backstage segment – Pac

Good work here.  Pac is just demented and I am totally here for it.  He takes no prisoners and I love it totally.

Cinéma de Geez… – Shaq

Incredibly weak promo.  This was recorded so he couldn’t have done this again and done it better.  He clearly just didn’t care to.  He dashed this off real quick and it totally felt like it.  This is the money/viewer grab they all make at one time or another.  I rarely like it no matter what company does it and I don’t like it here either – especially when the person involved isn’t into it.  Shaq doesn’t care so why should I?

In-ring segment – Cody Rhodes, Arn Anderson, and Red Velvet

That Dusty story was really cool.  It really got Cody and I don’t think he expected it to.  Arn is a very solid on the mic and Cody does incredibly well too.  Red Velvet came out and she was really fun.  Velvet went all “edgy” and JR chimed in with, “she said [what she said]…that means she’s serious”.  I DIED!!!  Fun segment all around.  Looks like it’s going to be Cody & Red Velvet vs. Shaq and Jade Cargill.  Could be interesting in the “money grab” way that these things kinda are.

“Hangman” Adam Page vs. Ryan Nemeth

Run little match.  Page’s spine buster onto Nemeth was absolutely awful.  Not sure what happened there.  Matt came out to watch and cheer Page on.  The story is an interesting one.  Will Hardy get Page to join his stable?  Slow and steady wins the race and I love where this is going.  Matt just nailed here and Adam did too with his reactions.

Dax Harwood vs. Jungle Boy

The crowd loves the Baltimora tune!  LOL!  Apparently, all the talent was told to throw as many vicious chops as possible.  We got a bunch of them here too.  Jungle Boy’s chest looked like it was on fire very early in the match.  Dax’s didn’t look great either.  Love the stipulation with Blanchard & Wheeler handcuffed to Luchasaurus.  It worked to everyone’s benefit at one time or another.  This was more hard-hitting than I thought it’d be.  Cutting off Luchasaurus’ horns was great storytelling.  This feud is just getting good.

Cinéma de What A Weird Place for a Merch Table – Team Taz (Taz, Powerhouse Hobbs, Ricky Starks, Hook, & Brian Cage)

Yeah, that.  The beatdown because Taz n’ nem were mad ’cause only Sting and Darby merch was there?  Totally plausible…exceptnoitsnot.  Bad storytelling.  Next.  P.S.:  Taz didn’t need to talk.  He almost never needs to talk.

Dr. Britt Baker vs. Shanna

Another women’s match I don’t care about.  This wasn’t a train wreck but it wasn’t anything amazing either.  Rosa came out to make the save…then it ended.

Backstage segment – Sammy Guevara & MJF

They were fun here together.  Sammy and MJF are NOT fan of each other and it’s great.  I wonder where this is headed…and I love that I don’t know.  They play off of each other so incredibly well.

The Good Brothers (Doc Gallows & Karl Anderson), Kenny Omega, Don Callis, & Young Bucks

This was short and sweet.  They’re united and the seeds are being planted.  I’m into this.  Nick almost lost it when Doc & Karl said “beat up Jon Moxley”.  El almost expected them to say “beat up John Cena”.  Great stuff.  Young Bucks are NOT feeling Callis.  He is manipulating all of them and I really like it.  Callis is fantastic slime.

The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) & The Good Brothers (Doc Gallows & Karl Anderson) vs. Dark Order (Alex Reynolds, John Silver, Evil Uno, & Stu Grayson)

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.  John Silver is an absolute star.  Even JR knows it.  Karl is just perfection when it comes to letting other guys get their stuff in.  He’s a master of making others look good and it was on display here.  Loved the tit for tat dirty pool.  Much fun.  Stu does a really nice hot tag too.  Very quick in there.  Silver is just incredible and he showed it for his hot tag too.  Of all the members of the Dark Order, Silver is the one who’s got the most on the ball.

I’m also glad they’re finally making something of the Dark Order.  They were absolutely nowhere for so long.  Sadly, it took the passing of Brodie Lee to make them compelling.  Still, they really are now and I enjoy these four tremendously.  Of course, the Bucks and Good Brothers are amazing and have been for years.

Loved Fenix coming out and can we talk about Mox’s Paradigm Shift onto Omega?  Dag!  He STUCK it!

All told, just a fantastic match and a great way to end the show.

Really solid show tonight.  The women’s match was…a women’s match.  I really wish I cared more but they simply won’t let me.  The talent is there; the booking isn’t.  It’s always been that way and it doesn’t look to turn around any time soon.  Oh, and the Shaq thing was just terrible.  That’s the last thing I’ll bother saying about that.

See you next week for another review!
