WWE Royal Rumble 2021 – Predictions

WWE Royal Rumble 2021 Predictions

I’m here to rumble. With the road to WrestleMania just around the corner, it’s time for those pesky Wrestle Royalty staff to make their predictions for the Royal Rumble. Don’t forget to share your predictions with us in the poll and comment section!

Even though the world has slowed down in a lot of ways, this Rumble snuck up on me a bit and I never even broke out my whiteboard this year.  Basically I’m winging it for the first time since I started predicting this match, my favorite of the year.  I’ve come down to four guys who I think are on a precipice, but different precipices.  I threw out Baron Corbin before he made it to the top four as he’s a heel, as is Reigns.  I also threw out Keith Lee, but only because he’s so new to the Raw roster.  I expect he will do some solid damage in this match, eliminating a lot of people.  Maybe next year, or the one after will be Lee’s time, because he’s poised to be the face of WWE.

Big E is just starting to get his push toward the top, and while he’d be a great RR winner, I think it’s too early for him to win it.  Sheamus is second on my list because of all the teasing between him and McIntyre.  Are they friends?  Is Sheamus going to turn heel on his friend?  Has McIntyre’s true character come to point in gifting Sheamus a rug with his own face on it for Sheamus’ birthday?  Then I remembered that Sheamus won the RR in 2012 and he was removed from my list.

That leaves two, and both of them are on similar precipices.  Both are looking over the edge of the cliff, the end of their careers, even though both thought their careers were over once before and both were able to come back from being told they’d never wrestle again.  They are very similar, yet so different.  Personally I’d love to see both of them hold top gold one last time (unlike Goldberg who can pound sand), because they’re amazing men with great wives and lovely daughters and they show more passion for the industry than many legends.  The question is which will win?  Bryan has had some issues with Reigns and Jey Uso since Reigns’ return, and Bry has never won a Rumble Match.  Edge, on the other hand, is a face, as is the WWE Champion who should retain to WM.  Edge and McIntyre could put on one heck of a match at WM, but so could Bry and Reigns.  Personally I think Reigns will be facing someone from his past at WM.  That means Edge will win this Rumble Match, 11 years after the first time he won, 10 years after he had to retire, and challenge McIntyre at WM!

I want to throw this in here as a little fun idea that would make a lot of sense, but doubt would happen.  I’d love to see Rollins return as a face, in the last five entrances in the Rumble Match, and win it to go on to face his former partner.  I also truly hope we don’t see Brock Lesnar in this match.  Not now, not ever again.
Queen’s Predicted Winner – Edge

I simply have no idea who will be winning the Men’s Royal Rumble. It seems like this is really up in the air in comparison to recent years. Edge being added on Monday certainly makes him and intriguing pick, as does Daniel Bryan and his constant talk of never winning one. Then there is the possibility of Seth Rollins making his return and winning as well. A long shot could be Kevin Owens if his match with Roman Reigns happens first, and he really wants another crack at him. Shinsuke Nakamura could also be another pick since he has been tangling it up with Roman of late and has recently turned face. Then there’s Sheamus, but I think him winning relies on Drew retaining because that story makes a ton of sense. Could also throw in people like Lashley or Keith Lee but I think those two are the least likely. I think I just have to go with my gut here because I really have no clue and that does make me excited to watch this.

The Winner: Daniel Bryan

I honestly don’t care too much about this one.  I’m the least interested in a Royal Rumble match that I’ve ever been.  I’ll just move to who wins.  It’s easy to just go for some big dude.  Braun just essentially declared, so he’d be easy to go with.  I’m gonna do that too.  Keith Lee has been on the edge of greatness since he debuted in NXT.  If there is ANY justice, Keith will take this and become as great as I already know he is.  I have a feeling he’ll do it too.

The sentimental picks in this match are obviously Daniel Bryan and Edge. Daniel winning then going on to face Roman would be a great call to 2015 and that could easily be incorporated/brought up in that potential match up. Edge winning opens up the possibility of a match with either Drew or Roman. The surprise entrances in this match that could possibly win are a returning Seth Rollins, Fiend or even Cena and Brock (the last two not likely to show up in this match though).

The two up and comers who would be believable winners in this match would be Big E or Keith Lee. Imagine Lee winning and getting a match with Drew or Goldberg on the big stage. Talk about a nice rub, and then of course the guy I want to win, Big E. I’ve been dying to see Big E vs Roman Reigns in a big high profile match up, but I don’t think his time has come yet.  Then of course you have Orton and AJ who are always near, or at the very top of the card who are always safe options to go with.

This Rumble is indeed very unpredictable. If you put a gun to my head and told me to pick one I’d say Bryan. He’s been getting set up for the perfect underdog story in recent weeks and with his time as a full time wrestler winding down I think he’ll finally get that Royal Rumble victory that’s eluded him  for several years.

This is one of my favourite times of the year, the Royal Rumble rarely fails to deliver and I’m expecting no different here. While there’s usually 2-5 names in my head that are almost guaranteed to win, I’m finding the men’s rumble incredibly difficult to predict. This year the potential surprise entrants could be the ones to win, with men like John Cena, Brock Lesnar, even Seth Rollins all rumoured. Then you look at storylines and who could benefit from winning, such as Sheamus, Keith Lee (if he’s even in the rumble), Jey Uso, Braun Strowman, Shinsuke Nakamura, even Daniel Bryan. You can’t rule out Edge either, so my only option is to just pick a name ouf of a hat.

Winner – Daniel Bryan

This match is going to be a tricky one to call. Randy is still in a feud with the Fiend so out he can go. I’m racking my brain trying to think of people and the reasons why they could be in the title match at WrestleMania. Nakamura has a storyline built in with Roman as well as Bryan as they both have been wronged by the bloodline in the past. I could see some faces from NXT pop up in the rumble for a sweet pop and hopefully Adam Cole “bay bay” will appear and get a couple eliminations before being eliminated. Inspiration just struck me as I’m writing this, but my pick could face Drew and have a back story built in. Without further ado…

Winner – Sheamus

There are so many talented Men who could win this and several who should not! My pick for this will be Shamus to become a double rumble winner and thus go up against his good friend, Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania, which of course will be a fantastic match.
Winner – Sheamus

I’m so excited about this match.  There are so many great women in WWE, and I’m sure some of our favorites will be coming up from NXT to round out the greatness here.  I’m hoping to see Ember Moon, Mercedes Martinez, Raquel Gonzales, Candice LeRae, Rhea Ripley and Shotzi with her tank.  I also have to admit I’m hoping for a surprise entrant that no one sees coming.  Either a legend, or someone we’ve never seen in WWE before this match – but not have them win it.

I truly adore Nikki Cross and would love to see her win this, but sadly I think she’s been lost in the shuffle again.  My fingers are crossed that there’s more coming between her and Bliss soon, but I’m not holding my breath.  I’m also hoping for better things from Mia Yim, but as Reckoning has no chance.  That leaves me with two women (one previously mentioned) who I think could take a Rumble Match win and run with it.

The first being Rhea Ripley.  She’s not in the main event scene in NXT, and now would make perfect sense.  Then there’s the braided one who has everything needed to win this and run with it.  I know Bianca Belair needs to win a Rumble Match to propel herself to a main event at WM, but I don’t think this is her year.  Because of that I’m going with my girl Rhea.  I think it’s an interesting swerve to have an NXT superstar win it, and Rhea is more than ready to take the baton and run with it.
Queen’s Predicted Winner – Rhea Ripley.

I have had two names in mind as to who should win the Women’s Rumble. The first being Bayley, as a reward for what she accomplished in 2020, and the other being Rhea Ripley. As nice as it would be for Bayley to win, I am totally thinking this is when Rhea makes her official move from NXT to either Raw or Smackdown. My money is on Raw because that is where she can get revenge on Charlotte for beating her and she can take the Raw Women’s Championship as well. It makes sense for Rhea to me because she has not been seen on NXT since losing her Last Woman Standing match to Raquel Gonzalez and it really felt like a send-off match. Rhea has done all she can in NXT and the time is now for her to move on from the black and gold brand.

The Winner: Rhea Ripley

This one is far more interesting to me.  I mostly love the line-up here (except for Natalya and Tamina – neither has a chance).  Who wins?  I can’t quite decide.  On one hand, I’d love to see Shayna Baszler take this and become the monster we already know she is.  On the other, I like the idea of a rocket-strapped Bianca Belair too.  Dag.  Decisions, decisions.  Okay…

Like the Men’s, the Women’s Rumble seems to be a little up in the air. Becky Lynch and Ronda Rousy’s names have been coming up a lot lately, but I have a hard time believing that Becky will be able to get back inside the ring that soon after just pushing out a baby, although her returning in this spot would make for one hell of a moment. Ronda’s contract is set to expire in a couple months so I’m doubtful she’s actually returning at all. And if she did I couldn’t see her returning for the Rumble unless she won.

As for the active members on the ladies side my favorites would have to be either Alexa Bliss, Bayley, Bianca Belair or Rhea Ripley. Bianca to me seems to be the best option in this scenario. A potential match featuring the boss Sasha Banks defending her title against the EST Bianca Belair seems like too good a match to pass up on.

This is the [slightly] more predictable of the two. Charlotte, Rhea Ripley, Bayley and Bianca Belair have to be the favourites to win, maybe even the loser between Carmella and Sasha Banks, but I’m going to go down a different approach. I think we’re going to get a huge surprise in the Rumble and it will debut a new superstar who’s going to go right to the top. Normally I’d have picked Rhea to win, but I just can’t shake this feeling, so I’m going to run with it. It’ll going to be one of two that I think will debut and win, so with that in mind…
Winner – Taya Valkyrie or Tessa Blanchard

There is going to be a few surprise entries for sure, as they barely have enough women. I can really see a surprise entrance (possibly with Taya Valkyrie), but not winning the Rumble. The Women’s tag team title match is going to spill into this match, and Lacey/Charlotte is going to continue too. The people I definitely know is going to be in it are legends, such as Beth Phoenix and Trish Stratus, but my winner would definitely benefit from it in the long run.

Winner – Nikki Cross

While I wish they would steal Big Swole from AEW, I know that is just a pipe dream of mine.  While she’s unannounced for the match as of yet, I want Nikki Cross to enter and win!  If not then Bianca Belair!  Both of those ladies are fantastic wrestlers and deserve a win.
Winner – Nikki Cross or Bianca Belair

ROMAN REIGNS (c) vs KEVIN OWENS in a Last Man Standing match for the WWE Universal Championship

As much as I love KO, I’m not feeling this feud.  The mic and ring work has been great, but there’s a disconnect for me.  I don’t see any gold is going to change hands here; it’s too close to WM, where I think Reigns is going to have to either face family (Rocky), or someone like Cena.  I know it can feel like a step back using either part-time wrestler, but they are the ones who make the most sense right now.  I also wonder who will get involved in this match (beyond Jey of course).  I’m hoping for an ending that is both creative and sends the IWC into a tizzy.  There’s been forklifts, duct tape, piles of tables and other debris, but they are just scratching the surface of all the crazy antics that can be used.
Queen’s  Predicted Winner – Roman Reigns

This has been such a good feud and has really reminded all of us how good Kevin Owens can be in the main event scene. Working with Reigns has brought out the best of Owens that I haven’t seen in a bit. Speaking of Roman, the man is just so darn good as a heel and is a natural at it like his cousin The Rock. I expect this to be a hard-hitting affair and could totally see this as the match of the night. I am sure Jey Uso will get involved as well because he is always trying to please the head of the table. This is probably the match I am really looking forward to, even though a part of me does wish we could have seen Adam Pearce take on Roman. This should be a fun match and I can expect Owens to take some gnarly bumps because he seems to always do that in this style of matches.

The Winner and STILL WWE Universal Champion: “The Tribal Chief” Roman Reigns

This feud could literally go on forever and I wouldn’t mind.  This has the makings of a feud in the Ric Flair/Dusty Rhodes proportions.  They have unbelievable chemistry together and neither one has ever been so compelling.  I am honestly floored by the whole thing. Roman, Kevin, and Paul deserve medals for all of this.  Who wins?  Do you care?  I don’t.  I can’t think of another time I’ve said that.  I’m just enjoying the story so much, the winner doesn’t matter.  Whatever happens, this is going to be delicious.  I know, I know.  I’ll play fair.
THE WINNAH! – Roman Reigns!!!

Everything about this feud feels like a call back to the Rock/Mick Foley from 1999 (minus the nasty chair shots) and that’s not a bad place to be. Kevin Owens is finally back to where he was in 2015 when he debuted on the main roster, he feels like a very big deal again. He’s the perfect babyface to heel Roman Reigns/Paul Heyman, and is a completely believable option to topple the Roman Empire under most circumstances, but unfortunately this isn’t that right circumstance.

I have Roman winning here because he’s the top guy in the company, even as a heel, and him walking into Mania as champion opens up a lot of possible intriguing match ups for him. There’s Daniel Bryan (check their history from 2015), Goldberg (say what you will but it’s a big time match or a possible returning Seth Rollins, Drew McIntyre, Brock Lesnar (who’s corner would Heyman be in for that one?) or a recently turned face Nakamura. That big match doesn’t quite exist for KO as champion the way it does for Roman as champion.

Roman wins dirty here to keep protecting a strong babyface Kevin Owens. My guess is Jimmy Uso has finally been cleared and will get involved, or maybe just maybe, Brock himself gets involved and costs KO, setting up something between KO at Mania. That has been teased a couple of times on Taking Smack between KO and Heyman.

I love, love, LOVE the hate WWE got when Adam Pearce was named as the man to face Roman (like that was ever going to happen!). I saw this coming a mile away, but loved every second of it. Owens isn’t done with Roman, and I’m not done with this feud. Roman has gone to that next level with this heel turn, and anyone who doesn’t think Roman is a mega star clearly isn’t watching Smackdown. This whole thing has been pure gold, but I feel like this will be the end of the line (for now) for the feud. As for who wins, there’s certainly an argument for both, Owens has been screwed over twice now, this could be the redemption story, but in my eyes, the title needs to stay on Reigns. If I’m right with Bryan, or if Nakamura wins, Roman needs to be at the head of the table to take them on at WrestleMania.
Winner – Roman Reigns

The previous matches they had were already hard hitting, but I expect they’ll top themselves with this Last Man Standing match. This is going to have cringe spots and Jey will most definitely interfere for Roman, depending on when the Rumble match happens. I see also Jimmy coming back and helping out Roman also. I just wonder if Owens is going to call in favors of the people that he helped in a certain match. Even if Owens has help, it doesn’t change my mind on who will win.

Winner and still champion – Roman Reigns

Hands down Kevin Owens is going to win this.  He needs the win and Roman needs a loss!  Hopefully Jey will grow a pair and take out Roman helping Kevin and putting Roman under the table rather than at the head of it.
Winner – Kevin Owens

DREW MCINTYRE (c) vs GOLDBERG for the WWE Championship

This right here is a travesty.  I was really put out when McIntyre finally went to WM in the main event in front of no fans.  It hurt my heart that he wasn’t getting exactly what he’d worked so hard to get back to while away from WWE, and his crowning achievement was at the least attended WM ever!  All that being said, McIntyre having to face Goldberg makes me feel a hundred times worse.  Goldberg has no spot in a wrestling ring (I feel that way about Sting too), and it’s a slap to the face of all the wrestlers who truly deserve to face the WWE Champion on any given day.  I’d love to be writing that McIntyre was facing almost anyone else on the WWE roster, rather than Goldberg.  I hope this is a typical Goldberg match, in that it will last three minutes and the bigger man will win.
Queen’s Predicted Winner – Drew McIntyre

I have absolutely zero interest in this match. Nothing in the build has made me interested and I will find it a darn shame if this is how Drew’s title reign ends. Goldberg is not needed and to be honest, I would rather Brock Lesnar, because at least he can put on a competent enough match. I truly dread watching this match and I fear for Drew’s health if Goldberg tries to lift him up for a Jackhammer. I only hope that someone tells Vince that Drew beating Goldberg is the right move and not having Goldberg win.

The Winner and STILL WWE Champion: Drew McIntyre

I don’t care.  You don’t either.  The end.
THE WINNAH! – Drew McIntyre!!!

This one makes me really nervous, because last time we saw Goldberg in a match he was staring up at the lights putting Braun Strowman over clean, which is something Bill only does once in a blue moon. It’s hard to imagine a scenario where he loses back to back matches, unless he loses to Drew here then returns later in the night as a surprise entrant in the Rumble to win that setting up the Roman/Goldberg match up at WM37, that we were suppose to get at WM36. Quite frankly that scares me. Unfortunately I’m picking Goldberg here because during this entire build Drew McIntyre appears to be taking Goldberg lightly. How that ultimately shapes the RAw main event for WrestleMania is anyone’s guess 🤷🏿‍♂️

I really want to just type SKIP and be on my way, but I won’t. I will say this, there’s surely not a person alive that wants to see this match. Oldberg needs to go, he’s a 2-minute catastrophe, and I worry for Drew’s safety. I pray that Goldberg doesn’t win this match and this is the last we’ll see of him in a WWE ring (or any ring for that matter).
Winner – Drew McIntyre

This is going to be a hard hitting match from beginning to end with them trading finishers. As they do that, The Miz is going to be sneaking around the Thunderdome screens to get into position for when they are both down and spent. Miz will cash in his Money in the Bank contract, changing it into a triple threat title match, and when this happens, Morrison will help him by throwing out Drew and Miz hits Skull Crushing Finale on Goldberg.

Winner and neeeew WWE World Heavyweight champion – The Miz

Why, just why?  Goldberg needs to retire and stay retired.  He’s not even an ok wrestler.  He knows very few moves, and he’s not interesting to watch.  He breaks a sweat just walking to the ring and is even more out of breath than I am if I walked that distance with an asthma attack.  Drew is gonna win because he’s a much better wrestler and much more interesting to watch.
Winner – Drew McIntyre

ASUKA & CHARLOTTE FLAIR (c) vs NIA JAX & SHAYNA BASZLER for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship

As much as I dislike Nia, since she and Shayna dropped the straps, things have been a mess.  The WWE Tag Team Championship was really starting to get some clout, then the newest champs were strapped and everything went down the loo.  Asuka has so much going on as Raw Champion, and Charlotte is in a feud with her father and Lacey Evans.  This is the time to get the gold back on Shayna and Nia and have them feud with the three blondes – Dana, Mandy, and Lana.  Time for a reset heading on the Road To WM.
Queen’s Predicted Winners – Shayna & Nia

This match is another one I really don’t have much interest in. That really has to do with the fact that Charlotte and Asuka haven’t really been booked as a team and rather as two people that happen to be champions. The match has the potential to be good, but I don’t hold out much hope considering my interest level in the match. I think it would be best for Charlotte and Asuka to drop the titles here because they haven’t done anything since winning them. I feel like Lacey Evans will either hit Charlotte or cause a distraction that will cause the outcome of this match, as it feels like the most logical thing to do.

The Winners and NEW Women’s Tag Team Champions: Shayna Baszler & Nia Jax

The tag team belts have meant nearly nothing since first debuted.  This should be a fun match simply because Charlotte, Asuka, & Shayna are in it.  Nia will be there too and she’s been quite entertaining on the mic.  The belts need to come off of Asuka & Charlotte.  It’s long since time.
THE WINNAHS! – Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler!!!

This match will be fine for what it is, but I always felt that these four ladies shouldn’t be in the women’s tag team scene at all. Baszler, Nia and Charlotte should all be solo acts chasing after Asuka’s title. If I had a time machine I’d go back in time 7-8 months and rebook the entire women’s division (mainly the tag division). The IIconics would still be a unit, Jessamyn Duke/Marina Shafir would’ve been called up to the main roster to add depth to the tag division, and Ruby Riott and LIv Morgan would’ve been the ones to beat the Golden Role Models for the titles, thus giving them a big rub going forward. Oh well.

Now back to this particular match. Nia and Shayna winning the titles back makes way more sense than Charlotte and Asuka retaining. Both Charlotte and Asuka have separate angles going on with Lacey Evans and Alexa Bliss respectively, so why should they retain here?

This doesn’t sit right with me. It doesn’t feel like a PPV match, let alone at the Royal Rumble! There’s been no build to this story, Charlotte’s been busy with Lacey Evans, while Asuka’s been dealing with Alexa Bliss. I feel like Vince felt the PPV looked a bit empty (which it did) and just decided to put this match here. The tag titles has meant nothing since going to Asuka and Charlotte, there was no payoff putting the titles on them and should never have happened. Had Lana won the titles with Asuka, the story would be different. I think the match will be okay, but I’m so done with double champions. The titles needs to go back to Nia and Shayna so they can be focused on more and perhaps face the winners of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
Winners – Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler

This match can go in one of two directions, with Charlotte being distracted by Lacey and losing the titles, or the team of Jax & Baszler finally imploding with Shayna walking out on Jax. If either (or both) happens, then I will look for it to continue on in the rumble later on in the night. I however, see the first scenario happening here.

Winners and new Women’s tag team champions – Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler

I would love Asuka (and yes Charlotte Flair too) to win this match, but they unfortunately will not.  Charlotte is bound to turn on Asuka at some point, so why not now rather than later?  Shayna will win this, yes Shayna will win and Nia is just along for the ride.
Winners – Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler

SASHA BANKS (c) vs CARMELLA for the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship

While the build has been there, I wish they’d announced this match earlier than they did.  Nothing like waiting for the last minute!  We all knew this match would happen, but I think this is just the start of it.  There’s no way Mella will win the strap here, even with her sommelier ringside helping out.  No offense to Mella, but I wish her new cohort was going to be in the Rumble Match, he could make it that much more interesting.  Anyway, this should be a fun one with a bunch of cheating, and I think that’s how it’s going to end.  Mella will win it, but not the strap, which will push this feud to the next PPV, at the very least.
Queen’s Predicted Winner – Carmella via screwiness, Sasha retains!

This feud has been built kind of nicely over time. I will say though that it has been one-sided with Sasha coming out on top in the title matches. It kind of does give little reason for Carmella being granted another shot other than they do not have anybody else for Sasha right now. I am sure this match will be good as Carmella has improved greatly in the ring, and Sasha is always a good person to work with. I do wonder what role Reginald will play in this match since he has been a factor their previous encounters. This could be a nice surprise of a match for the Rumble and I do hope it ends up being that.

The Winner and STILL Smackdown Women’s Champion: Sasha Banks

This feud has been fun.  Turns out Carmella makes for great slime and Sasha has had a meaningful run with the belt, though not as exciting as I’d hoped.  Still, it really has been good.  Her match with Reginald last week was amazing and this is the payoff.  Both of them can work (yeah, I said it!) so it’ll deliver.  Who wins?  I think this one ends a little dirty.  Reginald will get involved…and Carmella will take this.
THE WINNAH! – Carmella!!!

This feud has been enjoyable, but I still can’t help but think that the end game for this feud should be a double turn. Carmella has played her role well here, but I’ll repeat what I said last month when predicting their TLC match, it’s too soon to take the title from Sasha right now.

They’ve built this feud nicely, and as long as Sasha comes through as champion, it’s been a good test so far for her as champ. I still can’t stand her laugh though, it feels false and heel like, so she needs to kick that to the curb. I really don’t see a reason to strap Carmella going into WrestleMania, but at least she has proven to me that she has a bright future as a heel.
Winner – Sasha Banks

The matches have against each other has been getting better and better as the chemistry is clear. Reginald is sure to interfere again with his amazing athleticism, but he will get caught by Banks and taken out by her. I don’t see Banks losing the title just yet until the day after WrestleMania.

Winner and still champion – Sasha Banks

This will be fun to watch.  Sasha is a really good wrestler and I love her look.  Carmella’s character is rather interesting to watch, however Carmella will pick up the victory, as Sasha is headed back to do some acting from what the streets are saying.
Winner – Carmella
