Royalty of the Ring: The New Day vs The Street Profits

Two matches in and we move back to Group A. Last time round Street Profits took a steep loss to the Road Warriors, but it’s not over for them yet, a win here and a loss to Road Warriors in their last match would create a triple threat to decide the finalists. Remember, anything is possible, just look at last week where The Briscoe Brothers beat the Brothers of Destruction in the last SECOND. But first, The Street Profits need to beat the other team in the group, the New Day. So without a further ado, let’s look at the tale of the tape.

What’s good Wrestle Royalty. This is your boi and the back-2-back champion. Petty Dre, I’m back to defend my Royalty of the Ring crown against the Wrestle Royalty Jabroni’s who think they’re on my level.  For this tag team tournament I’ve chosen The New Day to represent me to help defend my crown so with that said let’s get to it.

New Day vs The Usos at Summerslam 2017 for me is arguably the best match in a long list of great matches that these two teams have put together. What makes this even more amazing is that this was a preshow match that ultimately ended up stealing the show proving that no matter where on the card New Day is, they will always bring their A game. Big E Powerbombing Woods onto Jimmy; Woods drops Big E off his shoulders onto their opponent. The New Day hitting a combination Backstabber/Uranage on Jimmy, Jey diving off the security barricade to take down Woods, are spots that I can recall just off the top of my head. The pacing, energy and ring psychology were perfect here. If The Hart Foundation vs The Brain Busters from Summerslam 1989 was the standard for great tag matches, I can say with confidence that this match surpassed it and set the bar. l got greatest tag team match in Summerslam history.

Amazing.  Just amazing.  Here we are at the confrontation we all dreaded.  The Street Profits burst onto the scene quite unexpectedly back in 2017.  Neither Montez Ford (then using his real name, Kenneth Crawford) nor Angelo Dawkins were doing a single thing that mattered.  Both were jobbing to whoever they faced.  Angelo, in particular, had been employed by WWE since 2012 and was languishing badly.  Then, a funny thing happened.

They teamed up.

Turns out the newly-named Montez Ford is an absolute star.  Few have the level of charisma and drown in “it” like Montez does.  Also turns out Angelo Dawkins, once brought out of his shell by Montez, is a whole lot of fun too.  Better yet, the two of them together are just incredible in every conceivable way.  Both their mic and ring work are absolutely top notch.  They were just unstoppable (and irrepressible) on the NXT roster – winning their tag titles.  They then won the tag titles (Raw first, then transitioned to Smackdown) very soon after debuting on the main roster.

The last match I chose featured them winning the NXT tag titles in a barn burner of a match.  Hopefully, you saw it.  Though I am hampered by WWE’s YouTube rules just like the New Day is so I had to make this one myself.  This is their match vs. Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode from December 2020.  Both teams left it out there with the Profits pulling out the win.  Here it is:

Who wins this match up?  I love both teams equally.  I’ll go further.  The New Day even paved the way for the Street Profits.  Still, in my eyes, the Street Profits are the new hotness right now.  New Day have been around a long time and they don’t really have Big E. week after week like they once did.  I won’t bother tearing down the New Day as they are HOF-bound for sure whenever they decide to call it quits (which I hope isn’t any time soon).

The last time these two faced off Street Profits won at Night of Champions, however when Dre and Botch face one another, there’s only ever been one winner. So the question is, who has your vote? Please vote based on what you’ve read and seen here. Let’s make this a fair tournament! (Poll ends Friday February 26th, at 8pm ET).
