WWE Presents Elimination Chamber Sunday, February 21, from the ThunderDome. As always, we at WR have predicted who we think will win each match, and why. This is one of the things I love most about WR, the personalities that make up this strange and wonderful group of people. Please, vote for who you think will win and share your thoughts in the comments section below.
WWE Championship Elimination Chamber
Drew McIntyre (c) vs AJ Styles vs Jeff Hardy vs Randy Orton vs Sheamus vs Kofi Kingston
I love Elimination Chamber matches. They are right up there, but just below the Royal Rumble Match, but slightly above the MITBLM. This is truly my favorite time of year for wrestling and almost everyone in this match has me giddy – except Jeff Hardy who really shouldn’t be in matches like this. He’s just too dangerous to himself. He’s just too breakable. Beyond him, I’d rather not see Orton in this match, because the last thing we need is to go back to Orton vs Edge at WM. I think we are all done with that feud. As great as Kofi is, I see him moving forward with other feuds, not going to WM for the big one this year. Honestly, I think it will come down to Sheamus and Drew, because this feud is slowly simmering, but won’t really come to fruition until after Drew drops the belt to Edge at WM. I truly think Drew will walk out of EC still as WWE Champion. They gave him the strap at WM and he’s run with it beautifully, even though briefly losing it to Orton and quickly getting it back. Drew has more than proven himself and should absolutely continue to prove his dominance here.
Winner & STILL WWE Champion – Drew McIntyre
This should be fun. I’m not sure why Drew is in here but okay. Sheamus and him will finally get their hands on each other here after Sheamus turned on Drew. That should be great. Jeff and AJ will both be much fun in there because they can both work their faces off. Randy is wrapped up in his feud with The Fiend but he still has an axe to grind with Drew so that’ll make his presence fun.
Who wins? Honestly, I’m always rooting for Kofi. Who wouldn’t want KofiMania 2, right?
THE WINNAH!: KOFI KINGSTON!!
This match feels rather predictable to me because I don’t see how Drew really loses here. Randy could possibly win and set a match up with him and the Fiend for Wrestlemania but I see the Fiend or Alexa Bliss costing him the match more so than him actually winning it. I will say though that I feel like Kofi will be taken out by Retribution and Mustafa Ali will replace him in the match to further their feud. I see Jeff taken some crazy bump and maybe AJ will do one too. Sheamus and Drew are the two I feel will be the ones to dish out the most brutal of punishment in the match and that should be fun. I don’t know who the final two will be but I do not see any chance that Drew loses here. I will say though that I think he and Sheamus will continue their feud after this so maybe they end up being the final two.
The Winner and STILL WWE Champion: Drew McIntyre
I hate to say this but Drew is going to lose, not because he isn’t a fabulous champion because he is. He is going to lose because they need a new feud for him (or a fresh take on one) AJ is not going to win, it doesn’t feel right at the moment for him to win. Jeff Hardy well nope, that’s never getting my vote not because he’s not a good wrestler, not because he’s not a good character, he just isn’t the right man for the job. Randy is a good wrestler, a crap human being, and just has had his moment in the sun and we don’t need a new feud involving him at the moment. Kofi is a fantastic wrestler and was fabulous as a champion but no he’s too fun to feud with Drew right now. Sheamus on the other hand is a different story, he can wrestle, he has a great character and he’s serious. He can pull off a feud that I want to see! Sheamus is going to win and then he and Drew are going to feud up to and including WrestleMania! Sheamus for the win.
The biggest question going into this match isn’t whether McIntyre retains or not because I think that’s a pretty foregone conclusion but if Drew can avoid getting cashed in on by The Miz who for the first time in months finally came off as an intelligent opportunist heel (something he should have been presented as for a while now) by taking himself out of this grueling chamber structure to instead be a bystander. Miz will definitely be a factor in this match but I think any attempt at a cash-in will be unsuccessful.
WINNER: DREW MCINTYRE
This one is a tough call as anyone but Jeff Hardy could win and I wouldn’t mind it one bit. I’m going to throw a wild card in with Kofi being taken out by Retribution and having Mustafa Ali taking his place in the Chamber. He is going to be a wild card and I also see Ali eliminating Randy after the Fiend re-emerges with a new look and taking out Randy with a Sister Abigail. I see AJ Styles eliminating Jeff Hardy with Sheamus eliminating AJ and Ali. I see an intense back and forth between Sheamus and Drew as the final two until Drew gets the upper hand and pins Sheamus to retain the title.
Winner and still champion Drew McIntyre
Triple Threat US Championship Match
Bobby Lashley (c) vs Keith Lee vs Riddle
This is going to be an interesting one. It’s also the only match that I knew how I was going to predict it immediately. Lashley has been flying off the handle, almost uncontrollable, even by MVP. I think Lee and Riddle will work over each other and Lashley as hard as they can, giving us a great match, until it looks like Lee or Riddle is going to win, then Lashley is going to snap and go off the rails causing the ref to stop the match. I know Triple Threat Matches as usually no DQ, but Lashley’s violence will force the ref to stop the match. Lashley will retain, but only because he won’t let either of the others win by trying to take them out.
Lashley Retains Via DQ
Okay, so I’m writing this just as it’s listed. We don’t yet know if Keith will make the match but I’m gonna write it like he will. It’s simple for me, really. Riddle has been defeated cleanly by Bobby twice already. Why am I supposed to believe he has a chance against Lashley this time? I just can’t make that leap. My fear is they’ll book like I can and if they do, it will make zero sense. This isn’t to say that I don’t like Riddle; I do. I’m only talking logical booking sense. The only logical choice here is either for Keith to win or to set up Keith vs. Lashley in a one-on-one situation where Lee takes it. I think the latter likely happens. I don’t like Keith just winning here, though I wouldn’t be mad if he does. I want him in a proper program with Lashley where the two go back and forth on the mic and tell me a story that culminates in a match. That said…
THE WINNAH!: BOBBY LASHLEY
This match has been rumored to change but I will still go with it being a triple threat. Lashley has been booked like a monster of late and that is always a good thing. I will say though that I do not like how much of a punk Riddle has looked in this because he has pretty much lost at every turn and been beaten down by Lashley. Lee has been absent of late so I really don’t see him coming out the champ here. That leaves Lashley and Riddle and I really don’t know who to choose here. Lashley could continue his dominance or they could change it up by having him go after Riddle for the title. I think the win will do more for one person here so that is who I am going to pick in this one.
The Winner and NEW US Champion: Riddle
I’m going to start off with I will never ever put Riddle as winning anything even if he was going against a jobber. He has the skills and more, what he does not have is decent character or anything I want to watch. He’s a good bathroom break. Bobby is doing great as is Keith Lee. Bobby wants Keith in The Hurt Business, or so I’ve heard. Keith would have to go on a losing streak for that I think. I can’t see Bobby losing or Keith either so the only thing that I can see is Riddle losing. Honestly I think Bobby is going to put the “hurt lock” on Riddle who will tap out and MVP will keep Keith Lee from breaking it up.
Bobby for the win. Yuck.
Something doesn’t belong with the others here. Riddle has been completely rag-dolled by Lashley the last 5-6 weeks and wasn’t competitive in most of their encounters. He lost a match clean to Keith Lee just a couple weeks ago. He really doesn’t belong and if I had to guess he’s only here to eat a pin so we can into a 1 on 1 match between Lashley and Keith Lee at WrestleMania.
If the rumors are true and Lee is out, that would be a bummer as it would have made for a great match. It is going to be a good match even without Lee in it as we have seen Riddle vs Lashley and hopefully Riddle will get some more offensive moves in as he can go in the ring. Against the way Lashley has been letting his inner beast out, I don’t see Riddle winning this match.
Winner and still champion Bobby Lashley
SD Elimination Chamber for #1 Contendership
Kevin Owens vs Jey Uso vs Baron Corbin vs Sami Zayn vs Cesaro vs Daniel Bryan
This has been the hardest match on the card for me. I would love to see Bry, Cesaro, or Jey win this one, even though I don’t see anyone of them beating RR for the Universal Championship right now. I’d love to see any of the three as Uni Champ, but RR is the leader of SD right now and it will stay that way for a while. I think I’m going on a limb and picking Cesaro. I’d love to see Edge vs Bry for the Uni at WM, but I don’t see it happening this year, sadly. So I’m going with Cesaro who has struggled to find his place on the roster since day one, but could really give RR a run for his money in the ring.
Cesaro to face RR!
This should effectively burn down the entire night. Everyone here can flat out go. We got a preview but the Elimination Chamber changes things majorly in terms of what will be at their disposal. It’s somewhat difficult to pick a winner. They appear to be moving on Cesaro in a way they never have before. However, Daniel Bryan vs. Roman Reigns would be incredible fun too. That’s what I’m going with.
THE WINNAH!: Daniel Bryan
I am going to be 100% here and say I am totally going with my heart over my head here. My head would probably say either Owens, Jey or Bryan should come out of this but that has all gone out the window as of last week. Cesaro cut the promo of his career during Talking Smack and he is who I am 100% rooting for in this one. The man has everything needed to be in the main event and that was further proof of that. I think the time is now for the Cesaro push to happen and this can be the start of it. This should be a fun match and I really do hope Cesaro gets his chance to shine much like Kofi Kingston did.
The Winner: Cesaro
I’m really looking forward to this match. I see 3 possible outcomes here. Daniel Bryan, Cesaro, or Kevin Owens.
There’s a lot of history with Bryan/Roman; a lot of the Roman hate/resentment is a direct result of Daniel Bryan’s YES MOVEMENT from 2014/2015 so that would be something that would be worth referencing if they pulled the trigger on Bryan this Sunday.
Kevin Owens despite coming up short to Roman on 3 different occasions recently still has yet to lose decisively to Roman so there’s that. Despite the amazing chemistry between the two I hope this isn’t the route they go in. I like KO a lot but I have no interest in seeing him get another title shot against Roman.
And then there’s Cesaro. I’d imagine if we weren’t in the middle of a pandemic right now that he’d be getting the same type of love from live crowds that Kofi got a couple of years which lead to him finally reaching the top of the mountain at WrestleMania 35. If I was in Vince’s shoes the time is now with Cesaro. There may no be another opportunity to move Cesaro up the card then now.
All these men deserve to win especially Daniel Bryan, he deserves one more title run before he retires for good. Corbin I hate to admit it but I’ve enjoyed him a lot lately. Sami doesn’t have a chance, he’s become blahhh and too predictable in a weird way. Cesaro is always a challenge. Kevin needs someone else to feud with. Jey Uso is a different story, he needs to win this and win this big. It’s long past time. I will explain later on why.
Winner – Jey Uso
This match is going to start off with a bang as I see Sami and Kevin starting out in the chamber renewing a rivalry and as soon as Jey and Corbin are in they are going to team up for a while until Sami turns on Kevin to try and pin him. Bryan is going to come in like a house of fire and take down everybody meanwhile they are going to show the Tribal Chief watch the match with interest and then Cesaro is going to be the last one in and is going to give uppercuts like he is a Swiss Oprah and is going to eliminate Corbin while Kevin is going to eliminate Sami then he gets eliminated by Jey who is going to be eliminated by Bryan. Cesaro and Bryan are the final two as then they show Roman on the big screen and they look at him pissed and look at each other then go to battle. They are trading blows back and forth exhausted but they continue to trade blows but Cesaro gets the upperhand and puts him into the big swing then the sharpshooter and Bryan taps out.
Universal Championship Match
Roman Reigns (c) vs TBD
No matter who wins the Elimination Chamber, Roman Reigns will walk out of this match still Universal Champion. It’s a given right now, though I hope I’m wrong, because RR fighting to get his strap back could be enough to tear SD down. After writing that, I think I hope he loses the strap at WM. I would make the spring lull that much more exciting.
RR will still be Uni Champ
This is simple. Roman Reigns has bigger fish to fry. Daniel Bryan won’t take this; no one else will, not yet. They’ll make a show of this for sure and I know I’ll enjoy it. Heck, maybe we’ll even get a full-fledged feud out of it but will Daniel win? Nah..
THE WINNAH!: Roman Reigns
Since I have Cesaro winning the Chamber, he is now the person I have in this match to take on Roman. That match is so fresh compared to any other scenario and one that could certainly be a banger of a match if they allow it to. Cesaro also knows how to sell well so he would for sure sell the damage of the Chamber match. The match could very well be a great mix of physicality and technical wrestling for sure if Cesaro is the one to face Roman. I really do hope this is what happens because Cesaro has more than earned this moment to show the brass he can totally hang in the main event scene. I will say though that the winner, no matter who Roman faces, seems rather obvious and I just hope we get a great match.
The Winner and STILL Universal Champion: Roman Reigns
I fully expect the winner of the Elimination Chamber match to fall short against The Tribal Chief but still put up a valiant effort in the process and I think Cesaro is the perfect guy for this spot given his momentum and his underdog status. And if anybody is wondering what a Roman/Cesaro match looks like then I suggest you check out https://youtu.be/qVSweS6sI6k from 2015 or their match from 2017 https://youtu.be/DBYHOFC0mGc.
WINNER: YOUR TRIBAL CHIEF
The head of the table storyline is wonderfully written, it’s been played perfectly, it feels wrong, and is nauseating. It’s time for a change in the storyline. Jey Uso needs to beat Roman and someone needs to keep Heyman out of action for a little bit. Jey is going to beat Roman solidly and take the “head of the table” mantle away from Roman, I don’t care if he gets the title or not, that’s not what it’s about in the long run. Jey needs to win this and then proceed to make Roman grovel and kiss his ass for once.
Jey to win the match title or no title.
Cesaro just winning the Elimination Chamber exhausted but he doesn’t get to rest as the match is next and Roman comes out with Heyman in tow as he gives Heyman the title to hold as he thinks it is going to be an easy night. He is wrong as Cesaro is going to give him the fight of his life as he hasn’t fought for a world title and he is going to go all in. Roman is shocked at the battle that Cesaro is giving him and has to cheat to win with a low blow and puts on the move in which I’ve dubbed Bow to the Tribal Chief.
Winner and still champion Roman Reigns
WWE Tag Team Championship Match
Nia Jax & Shayna Bazsler (c) vs Sasha Banks & Bianca Belair
I’m excited to see what happens with this one! I’m guessing that Reginald will be ringside for Sasha, causing Carmella to go off the rails and come to the ring. I’m guessing that things will get totally screwy and there will be a DQ caused either by Carmella putting her hands on Sasha, or Reginald steps up to save Sasha and ends up getting into it with Nia again. Either way, this is going to be a blast after what we saw on Raw.
Hilarity Ensues – Nia & Shayna retain
This is a very curious match. Like…why? I am thrilled to see Bianca here but there are other tag teams that should be getting this shot. Further, I also think Bianca should be flying completely solo. The only thing that will redeem this is storytelling. Will Reginald’s infatuation with Sasha make him come out with her? He’ll definitely increase the watchability of this. As for who wins, there’s just no real reason for Sasha & Bianca to take this so…
THE WINNAHS!: Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler
This match came about during the go-home episode of Smackdown for Elimination Chamber. I am sure the match can be solid but I do not see Bianca and Sasha winning here considering that Raquel Gonzalez and Dakota Kai are set to take on the champions on March 3rd. I am sure the possible lack of chemistry will be played up from Sasha and Bianca and that will play a role in the finish for the match. This match just feels so random to me and the winner should be really obvious.
The Winners and STILL Women’s Tag Team Champions: Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler
Oh, Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair are on fire baby! They will take the battle to Nia and Shayna. Shayna will put on quite the show, however Nia’s hole is still hurt. There will be a heated battle between Sasha and Bianca with Shayna and the occasional move by Nia. However unfortunately Shayna and Nia will win but only because they need to keep the belts on Raw.
Nia & Shayna retain
I believe that this match is replacing the Raw Women’s title match as it isn’t going to happen. This match is an interesting match as it was done last minute but it can be a good match with time and it might reveal who Belair might pick to challenge at WrestleMania. The possibility that Jax & Baszler losing is slim but not none yet I’m choosing them to retain their titles.
Winners and still champions Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler
