The Wednesday and Thursday prior to WrestleMania 37, WWE presents NXT TakeOver: Stand And Deliver from the CWC. The card is as stacked as I’ve ever seen it, and it’s pretty much guaranteed that what they present to us will be some of the best wrestling of the year. Please enjoy our predicts, make your choices in the polls, and leave your ideas and reactions in the comment section. We will see you in the Dignified Discussion for both shows.
Kushida vs Pete Dunne
I’m so excited about this match. I’ve been a massive Dunne fan since I first saw him simply standing there. Something about him screamed superstar to me. I can’t say why, but my eye was drawn to him. Then when I saw him in the ring I was sold. It’s been a few years since that first sight of him, and he’s only gotten better. Kushida has been more of a sleeper to me. I knew he was good, but he didn’t seem to be used very well. Since his feud with Velveteen Dream he’s been on my radar in a big way. This whole best technical wrestler thing is perfect for them, and I know that this match is going to be one of my favorites from day 1 of TakeOver. They are going to leave it all out there, showing fans just what a great technical match looks like. I believe that Dunne is more than ready for Raw or SD, so him winning this match is exactly what he needs to push him to that next level. This match will also help Kushida take some steps up the roster as well.
Queen’s Predicted Winner – Pete Dunn
This was a late add to night 1 and I am totally expecting a great match here. Both men have made claims to being the best technical wrestler in the world and they plan on settling it at TakeOver. Dunne has been putting in good work since turning heel and KUSHIDA has been in a nice groove over the last few months. I will say that I think this will be the first match in a series between them and I would not mind if this turned into a best of five or seven so they can really prove who the best is. I actually think that would be a great idea and one that I do not believe NXT has done yet. This is pretty much a coinflip so I will go with who could use the win a bit more here.
The Winner: KUSHIDA
Oh, this one is tough. Both men are tough competitors who are fantastic to watch in the ring. I know more about Pete Dunne and while I’m impressed with both men and very much enjoy watching them wrestle. Kushida is young and working his way to the top, Pete has been around for a while. Both are really good technical wrestlers and I honestly thought I was going to go with Kushida, but Dunne is just a fraction wilier, and I think that’s the key.
Pete Dunne for the win.
This is going to be a great technical match with mat work that would make people who love mat wrestling drool with excitement. I expect Dunne to snap Kushida’s fingers, as that is what he loves to do. I expect Kushida to work on Dunne’s arm to try and put on the Hoverboard lock, in which I see him putting on Dunne once in the match. Kushida and Dunne can work with anyone in the ring and look forward to seeing this match.
Triple Threat Tag Team Championship Match
MSK vs Grizzled Young Veterans vs Legado Del Fantasma
I have to admit that only one of these teams truly interests me, and that’s because I loved Wilde when he was DJ Z in Impact Wrestling. Even before he got sick, had emergency surgery and was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease, something about him caught my eye. Wilde with Mendoza are not bad, but I find them a bit boring overall. Beyond Wilde, I’ll admit MSK is an interesting team and this is a big match for them, but they really haven’t grown in front of us much yet. Then there’s GYV who are a great team, but I find them kind of boring at times. Honestly, NXT’s Tag Division seems to have become much smaller lately, and a bit of an afterthought at times. That leaves me hoping for the best, but not overly invested in this match. Having to pick a team, I’ll go with MSK, because I think they could grow in front of our eyes with the Tag Division chasing them.
Queen’s Predicted Winners – MSK
I get why we are having this match but you have to feel for MSK because they are fighting for the vacant titles instead of a traditional title match. This match will more than likely be fast-paced and could be a sleeper hit for this night. I will say that I think Legado is in this match so they can eat the pin because it is clear that MSK and GYV are the two teams that NXT is planning on leading the tag division in 2021. That being said, this match should be plenty of fun and I expect some great stuff here as MSK has been nothing but impressive since their debut. I think I will go with the team that will make the most sense and will provide for the stories moving forward.
The Winners and NEW NXT Tag Team Champions: Grizzled Young Veterans
I see this match as mostly being between MSK and GYV, not sure I even know who Legado Del Fantasma is since they have made that huge an impression….not. I think both of the other teams would be fantastic to watch and both could easily win it. My gut reaction is MSK, I have no clue and honestly not going to think too hard because I could easily change it.
MSK for the win.
This is going to be an interesting match as any of the three teams can win the match and I wouldn’t be opposed to seeing any of the three winning. GYV has a problem with both teams as does MSK and LDF have with GYV and each other which makes for an interesting match. I see either MSK or GYV winning the match but I’m not going to overlook Legado as they would make for interesting champions. GYV has been feeling overlooked for a while now and they are tired of it. MSK wants to win the titles to solidify why they are in NXT in the first place. Legado wants to win so they can bring in the titles and possibly have the Cruiserweight title as well in the group.
Winner and new tag team champions MSK
Six-Man Gauntlet Eliminator Match
Leon Ruff vs Isaiah ‘Swerve’ Scott vs Bronson Reed vs Cameron Grimes vs Dexter Lumis vs LA Knight
I’m sure someone will think I’m going to pick LA Knight because of my medieval background and how nice he’s looked from day one with the matching leather and lenses. That’s a big, old-fashioned, nope! He’s too new, though I know he and Gargano could be amazing in the ring together in the follow-up match. I would have said Reed if this was six months ago, but he’s lost a lot of steam since last spring and summer when he looked like he was going to be at the top of the card by this point. I like Ruff and adore Swerve, but neither have been involved in much lately, and I don’t see that changing this week. That leaves the two who I think are most obvious in this match. Lumis has been creeping around, taunting The Way, and Grimes is a totally silly mess who is killing it in all he does lately. While Lumis is the obvious winner here, I’m going with Grimes. I think it’s time he gets a push in his matches and who he faces. Why not Grimes versus Gargano on night two? It would be both a great match and bloody hysterical.
Queen’s Predicted Winner – Cameron Grimes
This gauntlet match will decide who faces Johnny Gargano on night 2 for the NXT North American Championship and it feels very obvious who will win. Dexter Lumis must be the clear favorite considering he is the only one that has really interacted with Gargano. I will say that I think we will be in for a surprise and that Ruff will make it to the spot when Lumis comes out before Lumis takes care of him and beats Knight to earn the title match. I think there is a chance we see either Gargano, Theory or the both of them try and cost Lumis the match but it is seems clear he will win. The match should be fun since WWE has a tendency of giving us fun gauntlet matches.
The Winner: Dexter Lumis
This is going to be an interesting match, I’m actually excited to see some of these guys go after each other. Ruff and Swerve will have a strong showing but honestly, they are going to be amongst the first to leave the match. Bronson will stay a while and will get tossed out by either a combination of the remaining three or all three. But the biggest fight will be between Lumis and LA Knight. Grimes, I must add will have a very strong showing but he’s not going to be the winner. I do see Lumis tossing LA Knight out of the ring.
Lumis will win and it will be fun to watch.
The multi-rivalries in this match are great and I cannot wait to see this interesting match. I’m going to love to see Lumis vs Reed as that would be awesome. Grimes vs Knight is going to be a great interaction with them arguing with each other on who is better and who has a better catchphrase. The back and forth with Ruff/Scott is going to be good and the match as a whole is going to be great. I wonder if the order of elimination to me is going to be Ruff then Grimes then Scott then Reed then Knight.
Winner and new number one contender Dexter Lumis
NXT United Kingdom Championship Match
WALTER (c) vs Tommaso Ciampa
I’ve been very open about not knowing enough about WALTER’s work. I know he’s good because he beat Pete Dunne for the NXT UK Championship, I hear his chops make Hardcore Holly’s look like Sparky Plugg. WALTER might be a big guy, but Ciampa isn’t afraid of anyone and will absolutely take it to WALTER. I’m excited to see what these two do in the ring, though I truly hope that the rest of Imperium stays out of this one and lets WALTER face Ciampa one on one. That being said, I have to wonder if it’s time for WALTER’s history making reign to end. I’m sure most won’t think so, but this is Ciampa we are talking about. He might be small, but he’s one of the toughest men in the WWE in a lot of ways. I see, if his body is feeling good, Ciampa winning the NXT UK Champion. I don’t think it will be a momentusly long reign, but I think it’s time to change things up as I have no clue how long it’s going to be before things go back to some semblance of normal in NXT UK, so why not strap Ciampa for a bit?
Queen’s Predicted Winner – Tommaso Ciampa
Now this is the match I am most looking forward to on night 1. WALTER has become my pick for best wrestler in the world and I think this has all the makings of being a potential match of the year contender. WALTER just knows how to work with any wrestler of any size and style. Ciampa is also in that class so this should be quite the match. I actually think this match could be similar to the match WALTER had with Dragunov and could be quite the stiff affair. Ciampa is more than game for a stiff match and we all know WALTER can dish out that style of match. I will say I do not see WALTER dropping the title but that doesn’t mean that this won’t be an amazing match.
The Winner and STILL NXT UK Champion: WALTER
I know I keep saying in various ways that these are all fabulous matches and going to be fun to watch, but make sure you get your bathroom breaks between the matches as this night is fantastic. And yes, this match will keep you wondering too, right to the bitter end. It will very much be a back-and-forth thing. And you might very well change who you are routing for. But the end result should be Ciampa victorious over Walter, but not if it means he’s going to NXT UK. So, if that is the case Walter will win and remain champion.
Walter for the win. But it will be fun to watch no matter what.
This is going to be the hard-hitting match of the night with the chops echoing throughout the arena. Ciampa is going to have welts on his chest for a week after this match. We are in for a treat and in for a cringe when Walter overdoes the chops, for sure. I’m going to bet that however wins this match is going to need some time to recover as it is going to be brutal but not the most brutal match of both nights.
Winner and new champion Tomasso Ciampa
NXT Championship Match
Io Shirai (c) vs Raquel Gonzalez w/ Dakota Kai
I’m quite excited about this match. Both women are fantastic in the ring, though seeing that Kai is going to be in Gonzalez’s corner has me worried that she’s going to try to either help, or ‘help’ Gonzalez and screw her out of the strap. I’m going to tuck that into the back of my head and hope that either it doesn’t happen, or Kai gets involved and gets tossed out by the ref. Beyond that, I think it’s time for Shirai to be brought up to SD (see what I did there?), so I think it’s time for a new NXT Champion, and Gonzalez will be a formidable champ to lead NXT through the spring, summer, and beyond through the end of the Pandemic. Further, I see massive issues between Gonzalez and Kai going forward, making Kai her obvious first feud as champ.
Queen’s Predicted Winner & New NXT Champion – Raquel Gonzalez
This title match will be the main event of night 1 and the build has been done quite well. Raquel is looking like every bit of the dominant force she presents herself to be and looks like the biggest threat to Io’s reign to date. This will be the biggest stage for Raquel but she has shown over the last year-plus that she is able to rise to the moment. She did so in WarGames and totally did in her match of the year contender with Rhea Ripley from earlier this year. Io, on the other hand, is my current pick for best female worker in the world and she just has great match after great match as champion. She really has carried on the tradition set by Asuka and Shayna Baszler of a dominant champion that puts out great matches. I will say that I think this will be Io’s farewell match to NXT and we will see the crowning of Raquel here.
The Winner and NEW NXT Women’s Champion: Raquel Gonzalez
Oh this is going to be another nail-biter! Both competitors are fantastic, tough, and beautiful (yes beautiful matters) This is going to be a great match and both Women are going to shine. This will be a battle and don’t think it won’t. However, it will be a battle that Io loses the belt in as it’s time to advance to the main roster for her. Raquel will win the match, she will fight hard and come close to losing and I’m sure Dakota Kai will be involved too.
Raquel Gonzalez will walk (or maybe crawl) out of the ring the winner.
The main event and main match I’m looking forward to seeing all night as it is going to be a great way to end the night. Knowing how they fought all over the CWC on last week’s episode of NXT as they are going to be on each other with a vengeance. I’m loving how Shirai was the one who made the challenge instead of waiting to be challenged like usual. I’m interested to see how Shirai is going to overcome Gonzalez’s size & power difference as she has the speed & high flying on her side so she cannot be caught by Gonzalez.
Winner and new champion Raquel Gonzalez
NXT Tag Team Championship Match
Ember Moon & Shotzi Blackheart (c) vs The Way
Oh, I’m so excited about this one. This is the match that swayed me when Sam and I were divvying up nights for review. I love all four women in this match, but it’s Shotzi who is a kindred spirit, to the point that I’m playing with how to make my own helm with horns, and not just for myself. I’m playing with knitting them and making them out of leather. Only time will tell which works out the best. Anyway, as much as I LOVES me some Candice LeRae and believe she deserves WWE gold around her waist, it’s too early for these belts to be moved. As great as this match will be, the tank will carry the champs backstage after it’s all over.
Queen’s Predicted Winners – Shotzi & Ember
This was another match that was added during the go-home episode and one we expected to be added. It is clear that these two teams are the ones atop the women’s tag division in NXT and this should be fun given their previous encounters. Indi and Candice have flourished as a team in the Way and the same can be said about Ember and Shotzi. I will continue to say how amazing Shotzi is and she really has proven it again by being able to get some personality out of Ember. I will say that it does feel too early for another title change in the division and that Shotzi and Ember should clearly retain here. That being said, this should be a good match and one I cannot wait to see.
The Winners and Still Champions – Shotzi & Ember
I love how the women’s division in NXT is doing. They have some strong women who know how to wrestle. Most of these ladies are fantastic and even the weakest link (Indi) is getting to be pretty good. For me this is a no-brainer, I love the combination of Ember Moon and Shotzi Blackheart as they have great chemistry in the ring and anytime they are on TV. Candice has great costumes and I like her a great deal too. Yes, I’m iffy on Indi, like I said she’s the weak link. However, I honestly feel that Ember Moon and Shotzi are going to win and ride off in the sunset on that fabulous tank still the champions!
Ember and Shotzi win as champions.
This has been a very fun rivalry for a while now and this match is going to one of many for the tag team titles. I want to see Ember & Shotzi hold the titles for over 6 months to really established the tag titles. It is going to be a fun match especially with Shotzi and LeRae going back and forth. I see this match is going to be the opener and will set the pace for the rest of the night.
Winners and still champions Ember Moon and Shotzi Blackheart
Adam Cole vs Kyle O’Reilly
I swear every match on night two has the ability to steal the show, and show up WM. This is one I expect, more than the rest, to be the MoTN, and a MoTY candidate. These two are so charismatic, so strong in the ring, know each other so well, and are at the top of their games. This will be the culmination of Cole’s work in NXT, and possibly O’Reilly’s as well. This would be the perfect way to end their amazing time in NXT and move them both to Raw or SD. Further, this is a feud that could easily continue through the spring on either Raw or SD as a way to introduce them to the more casual audience. As to who wins, that is a toughie. Both of them are exceptional, but I think it’s time for O’Reilly to get the upper hand. He’s blown me away through this, proving to me that he’s so much more than I thought he was through a lot of Undisputed Era. O’Reilly, like Fish, was saddled with Strong, who is a charisma vacuum, bringing down both of the other two, but Cole didn’t seem to be brought down. Even though they claimed he wasn’t, Cole was very much the leader of UE, and the only one I thought had any true charisma, until recently. In some ways it feels to me that O’Reilly was held back, even if unintentionally, so it’s time for him to defeat the leader of UE once and for all – until they get to Raw.
Queen’s Predicted Winner – Kyle O’Reilly
This is my pick for the match of both nights of TakeOver. This match truly has the ingredients for a match of the year frontrunner and I have no doubt they will deliver. The feud has been amazing and has brought out a fire in Kyle we have not seen yet. It has also given us the heel Adam Cole that we all love and by doing so, it has given us a great face in Kyle O’Reilly. The match being unsanctioned totally makes sense as well and I expect these two former friends to beat the heck out of each other. This is the match on night 2 that I am most looking forward to and the one I want to just sit back and enjoy. It is tough for me to pick a winner here but I will go with my gut on this one.
The Winner: Kyle O’Reilly
This is an Unsanctioned Match which if I remember correctly means there are no rules. Which sometimes can make a more exciting match. These men are going to really take it to each other. I don’t know much about Kyle, but Adam Cole I know enough about to say he’s going to win, and it won’t be an easy win, but he will.
Cole wins it.
Now, this might be the most brutal match of both nights as they don’t have to worry about the rules because it is not a sanctioned match. They might even throw the kitchen sink at each other and cringe moments are going to happen. They are going to definitely start the match outside of the ring but are they going to end up in the ring. I’m going to love every minute of this match as they are going to throw every move in their arsenal and some that they haven’t used in a long time.
Winner aka the one who could still walk away on their own Kyle O’Reilly
NXT North American Championship Match
Johnny Gargano vs TBD
Squee! I’m so excited about this match. Even if my pick for Gargano’s opponent is wrong, this is pretty much guaranteed to be a fantastic match. As stated above, I would love to see Grimes face Gargano here. Lumis is the obvious pick, but Grimes has been bouncing around giving us amazing vignettes, but we haven’t seen enough of his push extending to the ring. Now, I don’t want him to win this one, but I think it would be good for his future for him to work this match on the grandest stage that NXT has right now. I can see this match in my mind and how much fun it could be. Since Gargano broke his first defense losing streak, I see no reason for him to lose to Grimes (or Lumis) just yet. Though I have to say that if I do get Grimes in this match, Lumis won’t be far, and could easily be the one to cost Grimes the win.
Queen’s Predicted Winner – Johnny TakeOver
I have Johnny facing Lumis and it really is the match that makes the most sense. The story has been built for some time now and I think this is the match that really shows if Lumis is here to play in NXT. He has impressed but facing Gargano in a TakeOver match is a whole other animal. Johnny always rises to the occasion and I will be interested to see if Lumis is able to as well. I do think that Theory and possibly Indi will possibly play a role because they have been mostly sympathetic towards Lumis. I am one of those that believes characters like Lumis do not need to be champions but this may be the rare instance where it can work.
The Winner and NEW NXT North American Champion: Dexter Lumis
Johnny has been a pretty good champion, he’s a bit on the paranoid side lately, but hey who wouldn’t be? I picked Dexter Lumis to win the gauntlet match and honestly with the storyline they have going on I think it fits. Finally, Johnny and Dexter are going to be battling it out. And with the mind games that are already in play, I think Johnny is in for some confusing moments in the ring, confusing for him but fun for us. I do not know what new mind games Dexter has planned for Johnny, but I see this going on for a bit longer. I think Johnny is going to win but by the skin of his teeth. This will not be the last match between these men though. The mind games are going to get bigger and better and somewhere down the road, most likely the next pay-per-view, they will meet again.
Johnny will retain this time, however.
I feel like Gargano is going to be angry after Lumis wins the gauntlet match on night one and blame everybody in the match for not taking him out when they could. He is definitely going to have Austin Theory with him and he is going to want to have Theory use a chair on him but Theory isn’t going to and Johnny is yell at him to go to the back. It is going to be a great match with them going back and forth with a good amount of near falls.
Winner and new champion Dexter Lumis
Cruiserweight Championship Ladder Match
Jordan Devlin (c) vs Santos Escobar (interim c) w/ Joaquin Wilde & Raul Mendoza
I’ve wanted more from this feud. Escobar is charisma through and through. He knows how to carry himself as a champ, and does so with his minions in tow. Devlin did a solid job as CW Champ, but he’s not the bombastic fool that Escobar is, and so he just doesn’t come across as a top guy to me. That being said, I expect the ringwork in this one to be jaw-dropping. They will leave it all out there, and I’d say it could go either way, except for Wilde and Mendoza. I expect they will be the deciding factor in this one. They will make sure that Escobar is officially CW Champ, not just interim.
Queen’s Predicted Winner & Official CW Champion – Santos Escobar
I said back when they had the tournament to crown a new Cruiserweight champion that the end result should be a unification ladder match and we indeed got that. I liked how HBK came out to up the ante and didn’t have to say a word either. I totally expect this one to be the sleeper of night 2 and for both men to pull out all the stops as well. Santos has been amazing so far in NXT and shows that he can get the job done with multiple characters. He did it in AAA as El Hijo del Fantasma, he did it in Lucha Underground as King Cuerno and is doing it in NXT as Santos Escobar. Devlin is a great talent as well and he will come to play with Escobar in this one. Ladder matches always have the potential of being special and I think that will be the case here. I am not sure about the winner but I will go with my heart here.
The Winner and UNDISPUTED NXT Cruiserweight Champion: Santos Escobar
I’m sad to say that I don’t care about this match at all. To me it’s a bathroom break. I’m just going to pick willy nilly and say Devlin just because.
Devlin will be THE champion.
This is going to be an interesting match as both of them are great in the ring. This is going to be a great match with it being a dark horse match of both nights. I’m going to be interested to see if Mendoza and Wilde are going to make a big difference to help Escobar be crowned Undisputed champion or if Devlin is going to overcome the odds and be crowned undisputed champion.
Winner and Undisputed champion Santos Escobar
NXT Championship Match
Finn Balor (c) vs Karrion Kross w/ Scarlett
This one should be fun, and as I’m reviewing night two of TakeOver, I get to review this one! I’m excited to see what Kross and Balor do in the ring together. Balor knows what Kross has been through, being injured in the match that wins them the big one. Balor never really got the chance again after having to drop the Uni strap the day after winning it, but Kross is getting his chance. Personally, I’ve found Balor’s reign as NXT Champion this time around to be the biggest snooze-fest, but it’s mostly because of injury, but dang he’s been boring. I think it’s time for Kross to get another chance at the top of NXT before moving up to Raw or SD, which I see happening as soon as he drops the NXT Championship belt. It’s time for Kross to run with it, and I can’t wait to see what he, and the beautiful Scarlett, do at the top of NXT.
Queen’s Predicted Winner & New NXT Champion – Karrion Kross
It was inevitable that these two would meet at the TakeOver before Wrestlemania when Kross was able to come back this year. I have enjoyed Balor in NXT and think he has put in some of the best matches of his NXT/WWE run as well. Kross is a curious case because he was a bit boring prior to his injury because of his squash matches but I think he has been so much better since his return. His matches are more competitive and that makes for better character development and storytelling. I do expect this to be a good match and for Kross to continue to hush his haters that say he cannot do it in the ring. I do know that Finn has talked about “demons” and I wonder if we will get a rematch between these two where he brings out the demon because Kross gets it out of him. I think this will be the true test as to Kross’ ability because it is the main event of the biggest TakeOver to date so we will see what he is made of.
The Winner and NEW NXT Champion: Karrion Kross
In all honesty, I would take Karion Kross much more seriously if he left Scarlett behind. She of the overly filled lips just takes away from his serious persona for me. He doesn’t come across as the kind that needs someone to fawn over him and he does not need to protect her, she can learn to do it herself. I understand why she is part of his act, but I don’t like it. I’m going with Finn simply because I am sick of Scarlett, if not for her I would definitely go with Kross.
Finn for the win.
This match is really going to be an interesting match as they both have unique styles but show that they can work with different styles. With both nights having great matches I wonder how they are going to go into the match and I’m hoping that they don’t have the match a little bit one-sided and they both have an equal amount of offense. I see Bálor doing the opening shot with a running dropkick to Kross. I would love to see Bálor keep his title reign but I see Kross regaining his title.
Winner and new champion Karrion Kross
NXT TakeOver: Stand And Deliver airs Wednesday and Thursday nights. Make sure you join us for the Dignified Discussions because I’m sure they’re going to be more fun than usual as we watch some of the best wrestling on TV.
