Court of Royal Opinion – WWE Day 1 (Tentative)

Here now comes your Royal Court with their predictions for Day 1 as they are scheduled right now. Of course with the ongoing COVID situation, everything is tentative and subject to change last minute. The matches that are already impacted due to positive tests and being removed from the Live Events this week will be marked (*) to indicate those are most likely to be impacted. As of right now, WWE is planning on the card going forward as scheduled with minimal to no changes. If changes are made, this page will be updated and noted leading to the event. With that said, here are your royal opinions!

Fatal four-way match for the WWE Championship
Big E (c) vs Seth Rollins vs Kevin Owens vs Bobby Lashley vs Brock Lesnar

Queen KB

I truly wonder if this match is going to go off with everyone involved, but only two of the names really need to show up for my idea of where this is going.  First off, Big E’s had a horrible run as Champ and I blame WWE, VKM, and Nick Khan.  Big E oozes personality, but this run has been downright sour.  All they needed to do is give him a bit of freedom and he could have made this run totally feel the powah!  Big E is so much better than this run and because of how bad it’s been, how KO has been pushing hard, and his new contract, I really see them pulling the trigger with a known great talker as we head down the Road to WM.  I know most people say it starts at the Rumble, but I’ve always thought the turn of the year was when it started, including the build to the Rumble.  Honestly, I totally see KO carrying Raw through WM.

Winner: The Canadian Frog KO

Noble Natalie

Not sure why Seth is still listed, he’s got COVID and looks awful right now.  He won’t be there and if he is, VKM needs to be shut down for making him break quarantine.  Kevin Owens is good, Bobby (yes I hate to say this) is good, although he relies on that hurt lock (really a full nelson) too much.  I would love Big E to stay champion, but VKM is a dickhead and I can see him insisting on Bobby as champion again.  Unfortunately, I have to say Bobby for the win.

Winner: Bobby Lashley

Jester Jason

This is one of the matches up in the air right now due to COVID and Seth Rollins testing positive. He must have a negative test and be asymptomatic on Thursday and Friday or he is off the card. If that happens, it’s unknown if the match will proceed as a triple threat or if he will be replaced. If he is replaced, I’m not even sure who would do it because no one else is really in that position right now for a Title shot.

If the match goes off as planned, it’s obvious the others are going to gang up on Lashley and try to remove him from the equation as quickly as possible. Once that is achieved, all chaos between the other 3 break out. In the end however, I see Owens and Rollins turning against one another leaving Owens in the ring with Big E until magically, an uninjured, unphased Lashley gets back in the ring. From there, I think Owens will somehow manage to overcome and become the new WWE Champion.

Owens just signed a brand new multi-year deal with WWE that is extremely lucrative. It’s time for Vince and WWE to do the right thing and put the strap on him. If this doesn’t happen, I consider it a failure. He’s been dedicated, loyal, and downright deserving of a push as the top guy in the company and now is the time to do it. The others (Lashley & Rollins) have nothing to gain by pinning Big E and winning the Championship and it could put Owens on that next level.

Winner: NEW WWE Champion – Kevin Owens

Singles match for the WWE Universal Championship (CANCELLED)
Roman Reigns (c) vs Brock Lesnar

Queen KB

I cannot believe I’m going to type this, but I hope they strap BL here.  His transformation is very similar to Randy Orton’s and I see him making his next run as Champ into something truly special.  I worry that we will return to the days of old, Heyman talking, BL bouncing, but I have to have faith that it won’t happen.  BL has really made a change in his life and it’s showing in his work.  He’s poised to be a totally cool superstar, if he continues along the path he’s been on all along.

I have to admit that I worry I could be wrong as they’ve been advertising how long Reigns has been Champ as if they’re going to do something massive with that, but I hope it’s just building to be that much more painful when he loses.  I think BL is the obvious choice to pull the strap off Reigns for a whole slew of reasons, but mostly that they’ve booked him to be the dominant guy on SD for the past year.

Winner: BL

Noble Natalie

I’m so over Roman Reigns!  I want him to lose and lose hard!  I want to see him sweating and desperate.  I want to see him crawling down the rump trying to save his ass and title.  I want to see Brock drag him back to the ring and wipe it up with him!  Yes, I’m in shock, I want to see Brock win this!  And for the record, I think Heyman will attempt to save Roman Reigns, but it won’t work.

Winner: Brock Lesnar

Jester Jason

This is an interesting development of a storyline. I personally don’t buy the whole thing of Heyman being done with his career in WWE, nor do I buy the storyline of him being fired by Roman Reigns. Heyman WILL show up and have some sort of play into this match and the outcome. The way it was played out on SmackDown seemed out of place and just didn’t play right. It didn’t fit the persona of Heyman. I think Heyman returns and acts as the Advocate, but eventually turns on Brock and allows Reigns to retain the Title. This sets up an even further storyline that will continue through WrestleMania, which is where we will see the real turn of Heyman against Reigns and Lesnar picks up the Title win.

Winner: Roman Reigns

WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship
The Usos (c) vs The New Day

Queen KB

I have to admit I’m totally annoyed that we are seeing this match for the three thousand, seven hundred, and forty-eighth time.  It’s ridiculous that there are basically ten teams in WWE, and three of those are female teams!  That’s not how to run a division.  We have seen the same matches so many times, I honestly don’t know why we haven’t been stabbing out our own eyes with our knitting needles.  Okay, maybe it’s just me.

Anyway, I think that since I have Reigns dropping his strap it would be fantastic for the twins to lose theirs as well.  I think it would totally destroy the Bloodline and force them to regroup on the Road to WM.  I also think that with the King Woods being the top of his game right now, it’s time to strap him and Kofi for a bit.  It’s also time to put together some solid teams, because this is bloody ridiculous.

Winners: New Day

Noble Natalie

Oh this is easy, while both teams are really good and I know the match will be fantastic, there is one team that is clearly more deserving of the win.  Of course that is The New Day.  They will definitely win, it will be hard and exciting, but it will be their win.  New Day to win and be the new tag team champs.

Winners: The New Day

Jester Jason

This should be a great high-profile match with lots of high-action moves. However, with the way The Usos have been performing lately, resorting more to ground-based attacks and staying off the ropes, I’m not setting my expectations that high. As much as I really want to see The New Day win the Titles, I just don’t see The Usos dropping yet so it can evolve along the storyline with Reigns and Lesnar.

Winners: The Usos

Singles Match
Edge vs The Miz

Queen KB

Auntie Beth needs to be ringside, or at least come out to ringside when Maryse involves herself in this match.  Yes, I’m itching to get her involved in this, it’s so glaringly obvious!  Okay, I’ll admit it.  I remember the build to Cena & Nikki versus Miz & Maryse and I know they could elevate this feud to a whole new level by bringing in Beth.  I can see the great vignettes and promos, both taped and live, over the coming months.  I know I should be focused on this match and it will be a solid match, but there will be screwiness and the ending will be dirty in some way.  I’m going with Maryse trying to help Miz and costing him the match in the process.  This will make Miz hella mad and take this to a whole new level moving forward.

Winner: Edge via screwiness

Noble Natalie

Both men could use a win, not sure which needs it more.  But I do know I like both, Miz is a great babyfaceheel, but Edge makes me happy and I love watching him wrestle.  They both can put on a show and I’m praying that Auntie Beth shows up and it turns into a match with Beth and Edge vs The Miz and Mrs.  But the end result will be Edge winning even if it doesn’t come to that.

Winner: Edge

Jester Jason

This is getting interesting with the build to this feud! It’s been fun and exciting to watch and has definitely been some of the most entertaining things on Raw as of late. Obviously Maryse will be ringside for this match, which just makes me wonder exactly when Beth will appear ringside. My wager is it will happen when Maryse tries to involve herself in the match in some way to benefit Miz. Beth will come out and stop her, allowing Edge to get the pinfall over Miz. This will setup a longterm feud between the four that I think will culminate at WrestleMania.

Winner: Edge

WWE Raw Women’s Championship
Becky Lynch (c) vs Liv Morgan

Queen KB

Going into Raw, I was sure that there was no way they would take the strap off Big Time Becks this quickly, but the more I think about it, the more I wonder if they really might pull the trigger on Liv here.  Things are really screwy with COVID and Becky has a baby she needs to take care of.  I was a bit surprised she came back in the middle of a pandemic with a baby too young to be vaccinated, but I get why she did.  With the newest variant being so virulent, I’d be scared if I had a baby or young child (which I do as a new grandmother, but they are being more than cautious with the kids), especially in WWE.

Anyway, I really didn’t think they’d take the strap off Becks until Raw, but seeing how they’re handling things with a bunch of the biggest names being home (for whatever reasons), I wonder if they might just go there.  Change things up, give Liv a chance, see what she does as Champ.  They can always get the strap off her if it doesn’t work.  I would love to see her soar with the strap, but first they need to pull the trigger, so why not at the PPV where all the matches could fall apart at any moment?

Winner & New Raw Champion: Liv Morgan

Noble Natalie

Becky definitely needs a loss and Liv NEEDS a win.  However, as I said above, VKM is a dick and he thinks Becky is the one to back.  He’s wrong, Liv would be great for a champ even if it was only for a couple of weeks.  However, as I said, VKM is a dick and Becky will win and hopefully it will be a good match to watch.  One thing is for sure Becky will cheat and not win cleanly.

Winner: Becky Lynch

Jester Jason

Will or won’t she be there? I am talking about “Angry Liv Girl” from a few weeks back. Liv just told CBS Sports Tuesday that she has tracked the girl down and is offering to bring her in for Day 1 with her family to sit ringside for the match. Knowing this information, it tells me 2 things: Something major is going to happen and Liv wants the girl ringside to witness it. That something major? Liv Morgan will FINALLY win the Title and get the Championship run she has so long deserved and of which is very long overdue!

Winner: NEW Raw Women’s Champion – Liv Morgan

Singles Match
Drew McIntyre vs Madcap Moss

Queen KB

Yawn.  Actually, I have been loving Happy and Madcap being totally goofy idiots.  They’re a riot together, and while Corbin totally carries the team, maybe after this match they could actually be a team and inject a little life into the SD Tag Division?  Even these two jokers could be a great change of pace!  Speaking of jokers, I’m guessing that Corbin will somehow get involved and cost McIntyre the match.  Sadly I’m not expecting anything great from this one, just hi-jinx from the goofy pair.

Winner: Madcap Moss

Noble Natalie

This is a no brainer, Madcap Moss is a no one, he’s a jobber, he’s gonna lose and if he doesn’t well then whoever made the decision to go with him is sick in the head.  Drew will win!

Winner: Drew McIntyre

Jester Jason

I’m not sure what to think of this mess of a match. It was thrown together sloppily with little to now build and little to no meaning behind it. Obviously this stems back to when Jeff Hardy was released because that derailed the plans in the pipeline for McIntyre, and now he’s back to being the lonely wanderer with no real direction. I feel bad for him for being in this situation once again because he doesn’t deserve it. That said, I expect this to be a very quick squash match with Drew getting the win.

Winner: Drew McIntyre

WWE Raw Tag Team Championship
RK-Bro (c) vs The Street Profits

Queen KB

I’m not going into another rant about the lack of a Tag Division on Raw, the way it is on SD, but only because Orton and Riddle have been killing it.  The two of them have helped make Raw watchable recently, and I never thought I’d be giving Orton props for character work!  Then again I never thought I’d want BL to win a match, never mind a strap!  Anyway, I am loving RK-Bro and I’m not ready for the inevitable, though after the Raw DD, I’m truly hoping it’s Riddle who goes heel on Orton’s ass when it happens.  I do have to say that I truly love Street Profits, I just think it’s just a bit too early to pull the straps off RK-Bro.  Riddle showing up at New Year’s Evil without the strap would look bad as he is MSK’s Fairy Pot Father.

Winner: RK-Bro!

Noble Natalie

Ok, this is going to be odd, but this is the one match I hope changes, I’d love that one or more are unable to wrestle so that I don’t have to choose between them.  I love both teams, but in all honesty, (and yes I’m shocked I’m saying this)  RK-Bro have been fantastic to watch and they are really fun.  And if this match does happen, it will be a nail-biter (at least for me)  RK-Bro will win.  Yes, that broke my heart to say.

Winner: RK-Bro

Jester Jason

Match of the night candidate possibility right here. Both teams obviously have lots of energy and moves and should put on an incredible match. I am literally split on who I want to see win because I enjoy both so much. I want to see RK-Bro retain because of their cohesiveness and Riddle’s gimmicks towards Orton, but The Street Profits are so over with fans and everything. The only solution I can possibly see happen The Street Profits go over dirty and begin a heel run, which they could accomplish well.

Winner: NEW Raw Tag Team Champions – The Street Profits

WWE Intercontinental Championship
Shinsuke Nakamura (c) vs Sami Zayn

Queen KB

Um, no clue where this came from, and I’m overly excited by it.  I guess it’s a good excuse to see Boogs, but otherwise, I don’t really care.  I honestly forgot Nakamura was IC Champ, and I am not sure I knew Sami was going after him for it.  Honestly, I’m still stuck on Sami telling BL he’s vegan when they were going moose hunting in Canada.  Anyway, this could be a fun match, or it could be a snore.  They are both great in the ring, but that’s not what WWE is really known for these days.  It’s time for WWE to do something interesting with the IC strap, and maybe Sami is it?  I was going out on a limb and give this one to Sami, he can’t lose everything, can he?  But then I thought about it and I am already flipping the majority of the titles on a throwaway PPV.  So leaving it to Nakamura, even though they’re doing nothing with him.

Winner: Nakamura

Noble Natalie

This is going to be a night of shocking myself I think.  I really do like Naka and not a fan of Sami (except he does choose very good causes to support).  Naka is really good and fun to watch, Sami is a whiner.  However, I honestly think Sami is going to win, I have no idea why, but I think he is.  Sami for the win.

Winner: Sami Zayn

Jester Jason

Zayn has been on a riot streak lately against anyone and everything. His rivalry with Nakamura thus far has been incredible. Hopefully we get the Zayn of old in the ring with his incredible moves and match capabilty. If we do, expect a great match here between the two of them. In the end, I think we end up seeing Sami Zayn pick up the victory over Nakamura and become the new IC Champion.

Winner: Sami Zayn
